Chapter-40
VALERIE’S POV
I noticed how the alphas immediately got alerted and hid their lunas behind them, unsure what kind of miseries Alpha Ambrose intended to bring with his anger.
The council head looked at me with raised brows, and I shrugged at him before forcing my gaze back to the eyes of the man who hurt me last night and said those words that were infuriating enough for me to beat him to a pulp.
“Alpha Ambrose, what a pleasant surprise,” Alpha Kaiden walked to Ambrose, but he just glared at them to stop them where they were.
He wasn’t here to talk to anyone right now. I could see it in his eyes. His gaze moved back to me, and I noticed how he sighed before clenching and unclenching his fists.
“You left me,” Ambrose’s voice was cold and hard, and I raised my brows at him.
Is that what he wants to talk about? Doesn’t he remember why we are like this? Why I came here without telling him? The more I thought about it and how Ambrose was getting angry when it should be the other way around, the angrier I grew.
He was here to fight me. Or that’s what his expression told me.
I didn’t say anything. I didn’t want to bring the drama of my life in front of everyone and give them the pleasure to laugh at my miseries, the miseries of a rogue who fell in love and got fooled again.
I was shocked when he walked to me and sat in front of my knees, his hand on my lap.
Everyone gasped around me. And I wasn’t even looking anywhere but at Ambrose. I know it because I heard them gasping so loudly.
I just kept looking at him, and he sighed before stepping closer to me.
“I know you are angry at me, and you have all the valid reasons for that, but at least give me a chance to explain myself. Please?” He asked, and I softened my gaze.
He smiled at me, but I could see the sadness in his eyes when he looked at my feet.
“I don’t know what came over me, Valerie. Sorry isn’t even a word that can describe what I feel right now. I want to beat myself for even trying to hurt you. Let me tell you everything that happened,” Ambrose said, and I honestly didn’t want to start talking about our life and what we were in front of everyone.
I stood from my place, ready to leave, but he held my hand, making me pause.
My gaze moved to the stairs where Damian and Beatrice were standing, looking at me, and My eyes softened even more. The shocked expression on Beatrice’s face was pleasuring me, but it wasn’t enough for me to insult Ambrose in front of everyone.
I know he has a lot of things to say in his defense, and judging from his expression, I am sure he was hell-bent on solving this issue right now, but I wasn’t.
“I don’t know why you are here. If you are here to attend the ball, do it and talk to people like you. I don’t have to listen to anything. I am not obligated to. Not after -” I paused before scoffing at myself.
I was about to jerk my hand from him when he tightened his grip around my hand before pulling me towards him.
“Please,” He looked up at me, his wavering eyes breaking my resolution, and I bit my lips before sitting on the couch, my cold eyes still resolute to not give in to him.
“Everyone is looking. Do you not care about it? I thought you cared about images a lot,” I scoffed, and his eyes swept at everyone’s shocked face before they settled on mine.
“The only person whose opinion I care about here is you. Now it’s all up to you. Do you want to hear me out or not? If you don’t want to hear me out, just tell me,” Ambrose said.
That’s it? That’s the most he is going to try to explain things to me. And here I thought he had grown balls to solve the matter. Maybe I was too quick to judge him. I believed something indeed happened, and judging from his voice and the look in his eyes, I am sure there was a reason behind why he acted like that, but I had never thought he would give up so easily on making things right.
‘You don’t need to stay at a place or in front of someone who doesn’t respect us. Let’s leave,’ Adele said, and I thinned my lips.
“No. Now that I have sat down, let me hear what Ambrose wants to say,” I said, and Adele hummed.
‘Do as you wish, but just know I am always there for you, no matter what decision you make. I would never take someone’s disrespect to you,’ Adele said, and I smiled.
‘Thanks, your support is all I need,’ I smiled before looking at Ambrose.
“I don’t want to hear it. Now what? You leave?” I tilted my head before looking at him, and he kept looking into my eyes before a smirk spread across his lips.
“I can’t believe you think I would leave you just like that. After trying so hard, I finally got a taste of what heaven feels like. I will be a fool if I let you leave just like that,” Ambrose said before he stepped closer to me, almost touching my lap.
He gently grabbed my palm and rubbed the back of my knuckles with his thumb.
“Since you don’t want to hear me out, I am only left with one choice,” He said, and I squinted my brows.
“And what that would be?” I asked with the same smirk, completely forgetting that we were not alone but in front of tens of alphas, their lunas, and almost more than half of the council.
“Huh… I wanted to make it a special moment, but you leave me no choice,” He said, and I narrowed my eyes.
“George!” Ambrose said, and soon a few men walked inside with a large bouquet in their hands.
I didn’t like where this was going. More men came, and I noticed how they were coming in batches. The first batch came with pink roses, the second with blue roses, and the third with red roses.
After everyone, George walked inside with the largest bouquet in his hand, and he gave that bouquet to Ambrose, who looked at me before smiling.
“Miss Valerie Katya, will you marry me?” Ambrose asked me, and I looked at him dumbfounded.
He is kidding me, right?
