VALERIE'S POV
"What time is it?" I asked my wolf and she rolled her eyes at me.
"Why are you asking me? I was sleeping with you. Just check your phone," She said and I sighed.
Seriously, she leaves no chance to snap at me, doesn't she? I looked at my phone.
It's 5 pm only.
I was really planning to sleep till the ball officially started so I could make my grand entry, but who would've guessed my eyes would think to open soon?
I ruffled my hair in frustration before looking at the ceiling.
Well, now that I think about it, I don't particularly need to wait for the ball, I can always annoy them by sitting in the middle of the hall, right? I grinned at the idea before rushing out of bed and wearing knee-length shorts with my top waist-length top and jacket.
'You seriously love to annoy those people, don't you?' Adele asked, and I shrugged.
"They haven't been the best part of my life. Most of them here from this nation played a vital role in making my rogue life hell. Have you forgotten about all those times when we -" I paused, not wanting to remember those sad memories that would ruin my mood.
‘So what’s the plan? We just go there and sit on the couch to annoy the alphas? Will you pick a fight with them? You know that the council head won't really like it, right?’ Adele said, and I smiled at her.
“Well, you just wait and see. I won’t need to pick a fight with them,” I smiled.
‘Don’t you love to make things hard for Logan?’ Adele commented and I smiled and descended the stairs with the biggest smile on my face, and just like I had guessed, every alpha present in the corridor and the hall paused what they were doing and looked at me with raised brows.
Some of their gazes turned hostile while some of them were merely curious. However, among all these alphas, some were genuinely shocked to see me here.
“What is a rogue doing in the council chambers?” One of the alphas voiced out their thoughts, and I smiled.
“Exactly what you guys are here for, the annual ball,” I smiled to piss them off even more before I plopped on the main couch, enjoying their ugly expressions more than ever.
“Jefferson, what kind of tyranny is this? How can you invite a rogue to the council chambers and the annual ball after knowing all the alphas from this nation and some of the alphas from the neighboring nations would be here? Don’t you care about our reputation at all?” Alpha of the Aberdeen asked. I looked at him before shrugging.
I don’t need to reply to any of them until they directly address me. I am sure Mr. Jefferson won’t want either, knowing all too well what kind of problems I can invite if I become angry and show them my fangs. I grinned at my thoughts, liking the troubled expression on the council head’s face.
Huh… serves him right for not telling me I was related to them and not taking proper care of me as a family. I smiled before taking a random magazine from the counter and opening it like it was the most normal thing to do after creating such havoc in the hall.
“Why are we only blaming the council head for this? You guys don’t know her. She is troublesome just like that. I am sure she threatened that she would cause trouble outside if they didn’t invite her. She has a reputation for threatening the alphas. If you guys don’t remember her, let me remind you, she is the rejected mate of Alpha Damian Carter, the alpha of the Great Moon pack,” Alpha Zade said, and I looked at him before smiling.
“I thought you would help me in this kind of conversation given how you guys were the ones who brought me here, but since you can’t seem to find the right words, let me handle it myself,” I smiled at the manager of the annual ball, who looked down at his feet.
My gaze moved to the council head, who didn’t look like he was worried about what I was about to say. Maybe because he wanted me to stand up for myself and show this alpha his place? Maybe, it was because he knew that the words this alpha had used against me would entice a reaction from me sooner or later.
Whatever it was, I was happy that he wasn’t trying to stop me because I was sure from the look in my eyes he must’ve already found out what I was thinking of doing.
“You like to insult others, no? This runs in the blood,” I closed the magazine before standing from my place and turning to Alpha Zade, whose eyes became cautious, probably afraid of what I was about to say.
His fear was right. I was about to say exactly what he didn’t need to hear from me. I smirked at him.
“How is your kid doing, Alpha Zade? Don’t tell me you still buy slaves for him to hide his infidelity. Wait. Have you released the last batch of five s*x slaves you had bought for him? He was quite infatuated with me when you caught me to satisfy him, no? Unfortunately, that day was the worst day of his life because he ended up losing his front teeth, and his favorite people died,” I smirked at Alpha Zade.
He looked around, and I noticed how the alphas were looking at him. And why not buying s*x slaves was considered a crime even among rogues? Many alphas indeed do that regardless of facts, but his family drama was practically exposed, and I was the one doing it. I couldn’t be more proud of myself.
“You! How dare you say something so atrocious about my son. Stop spreading rumors about my son. I will f*cking kill this b*tch,” Alpha Zade lunged at me, but before his hand could touch my neck, I grabbed his hand before pushing him down on his knees. I placed my knee on his shoulder, forcing his head down while facing the council head.
“Did I use my fist to talk to you? If we start keeping scores, I should’ve killed your son and you for touching even a strand of my hair. And spreading rumors, you say? Should I show everyone the videos of how nasty your son can be? I am a good girl until you don’t cross me,” I pushed him away before stepping back as all the alphas looked at me, alert.
“I am not here to harm anyone. If you guys don’t know, let me tell you, I am a member of the council’s distant family. I was the daughter of a reputed beta before turning a rogue, and I turned rogue because a useless alpha couldn’t accept me because of my lack of a wolf at that time. Where is my fault in all this?” I looked at all the alphas who thinned their lips before looking at me, and I sighed.
“I don’t want to mess with anyone here, but if someone came to harm me, I won’t sit around and wait for the council to protect me. I have earned that kind of skills to protect myself, and if you have any doubts, you can ask Alpha Kaden and Brian. I am the most civil rogue you’ll ever meet,” I looked at everyone before sitting on the couch casually and was about to start reading my book again when I was surprised by a sudden powerful presence at the entrance.
The council chambers nearly shook because of his presence, and everyone turned to look at him. The most powerful alpha in the world.
Alpha Ambrose Kendrick.
“Valerie Katya,” He whispered, and all the events of what happened between us last night before I came here replayed in my head, making my eyes turn cold as I looked at the man who was seething with anger.
It looks like things are about to turn ugly.
