CHAPTER 149: Eye for an Eye
CHAPTER 149: Eye for an Eye
Morgan’s POV
The chase was swift. Reports flowed back through the link: Violet and Carrick fleeing through back roads, disguised in thick clothes.
My warriors hunted them in every nook and cranny of New York City while some trailed them in the clearings.
Finally, they were caught trying to cross the packs’ border that was shielded from human eyes.
Unknown to them, the pack link triggered the border security guards, and they got them before they crossed over the border.
By the time I arrived in town, they were cornered, silver blades at their throats. Carrick’s face was pale, his false dignity stripped bare. Violet clung to him, her red gown torn, her eyes wide with the terror of prey caught in the open.
“Alpha King,” Carrick began, trying to mask the tremor in his voice. “There must be some mistake…”
“Silence.” My voice cracked through the night. “You conspired against your Alpha and his Luna. You paid for her death. You dared to strike at what is mine.
Carrick looked shocked “I swear I didn’t know what my stupid daughter was planning until last night when she barged into my room and began to spit out some crazy things about the Luna and her involvement. As a father, I had to protect my child even though she is the enemy fashioned against me. At the last word, he shoved her gently off his shoulder, and she fell with a plop on the floor.
“Please Alpha Morgan. I only wanted…” Violet whimpered, crawling on her knees to hold my ankle.
I dislodge her from my feet, my eyes blazing with anger. I didn’t feel pity for her, neither was I buying into her games.
“You wanted my mate gone? What was the next move? To seduce me until you can take her place?
“I swear I didn’t know she was pregnant until the party."
I shook my head. “She is not pregnant, you fool.”
“But she is…anyway, please tamper justice with mercy and save me. My father is the cause of all this and I hate him.”
“Inasmuch as I believe your father instigated every evil you’ve turned into, you cannot put all the blame on him because you chose to be what he wants you to be. You have the ability to make your own decisions, and you choose the path of destruction. So this is on you, Violet”.
I turned to the warriors. “Hand them over to the human police. Let them taste the shame of mortal law. But hear me well…” I raised my voice and opened the mindlink wider for not just my pack but the whole region to hear.
“From now henceforth, Alpha Carrick is stripped of his legitimacy as the Alpha of the Ironfang pack, and they are hereby banished from this region. Once the human police are done with them, and when they return after paying for their crimes of attempted murder, no matter how many decades that will be, they will face the consequences of their actions also in the werewolf world. I have eyes and ears everywhere in this country and there will be no escape for them.
“An eye for an eye. This is the word of the Aloha King”.
After I made sure the two criminals were behind bars at the station headed by a werewolf, I went back to the pack house.
As I entered my room, I found Alora sleeping fitfully, Selene at her side with her hands wrapped around her torso while Leo curled at her feet.
My chest ached at the sight of them. I must have lost my family once, but I had a new one now and, the goddess willing, my mate would give us a pup that I would cherish for the rest of my life.
I knelt at the head of the bed, close to her and brushed a kiss against her forehead.
“You’re safe,” I whispered. “I swear it.”
She stirred and rolled a little more into Selene, whose hands were wrapped tightly around her middle.
I guess she sensed my presence because she spoke
“She healed really fast after you left, but she is not out of danger yet,” she murmured. “The poison had started to spread, but thank the Goddess for Leo,” lingers.
We both turned to him as he also stirred and turned his face to the foot of the bed.
