CHAPTER 148: The Witch’s Confession

CHAPTER 148: The Witch’s Confession
Morgan’s POV

The chamber erupted in chaos the instant the impostor healer lunged for Alora. My instincts roared, but another figure moved faster.

Chloe.

She moved at the speed of light, and before I knew what was going on, she was in front of the Marwen, claws protruding, fangs out.

She snarled at her, seizing her by the hair and yanking her backwards so hard, a strangled cry that sounded like that of a witch broke out of her lungs.

Alora gasped, curling into herself on the bed, shaking from the after effect of her retching.

“Get away from her!” Chloe spat, dragging the woman across the floor like she weighed nothing. Her claws nicked the witch’s scalp, a lone streak of blood running down her neck.

Before our very eyes, the healer’s form shimmered, her body breaking apart like smoke in Chloe’s grip. Then she vanished into thin air, leaving a stench of sulfur in the air.

“Goddess! What is this creature? I murmured, unable to believe I had let that into our room, to touch my mate.

Where were my Alpha instincts to detect things like that?

All of a sudden, Chloe began to shift in front of everyone. Her bone cracked and rearranged itself. Her eyes glowed like molten silver, a color that marked her as both wolf and divine vessel.

Her wolf came into view, its fur white as snow.

I gasped!

She dropped low to the ground, nose twitching. A guttural growl rumbled through her chest. She darted toward the corner of the chamber where the stink of magic clung, snapping her jaws at empty air.

The same high-pitched scream tore the room and the fake healer who we now knew as a witch flickered back into sight, scrambling toward the door, but Chloe slammed into her with the full force of a predator. They crashed to the ground, Chloe’s jaws clamping inches from her throat.

I strode forward, my voice thick with Alpha command. “Bind her.”

Warriors burst through the doorway at my order, ropes and silver chains in their hands. Chloe pinned the witch long enough for them to put the binders on her.

She tried her black magic again, but her dark energy wasn’t a match for Chloe, who was a divine wolf.

Her eyes glowed red as she shook in the hands of the warriors as I got closer to her.

I crouched low, gripping her chin in one hand, forcing her to look at me. “You set foot in my house, poisoned my mate, and dared to touch and attack her. You’ll tell me who sent you, or I’ll make your death last for days.

She laughed, a sound both ugly and hollow. “You think you frighten me, Alpha King?”

Chloe snarled, lunging again, but I held up a hand. My fury was getting out of hand.

I gestured to the warriors. “Take her to the den. Chain her in the dark. She doesn’t see the moonlight until I say so”.

The witch was dragged from the room, spitting curses in a foreign tongue.

I turned back to Alora, who whimpered as Selene wiped the blood from her lips.

“Stay with her,” I ordered Selene. “She doesn’t leave your sight. Not for a second.

Her eyes met mine, and she nodded, pulling frightened Leo to her lap.

The den reeked of sweat, wolfsbane and silver.

Noreen was chimed to one of the pillars with silver chains, but it didn’t bite into her skin.

She wasn’t even a werewolf. I didn’t know what creature she was, and I wasn't interested.

I needed to know what gave her the audacity to walk into my pack and think she could harm my mate.

Two warriors stood beside me while Harry stood outside with Chloe, who had refused to shift back to skin.

She snarled once in a while, but it seemed Harry’s attempt to calm her was working, but she refused to shift back to skin. Her wolf eyes were pinned on the witch.

“You’ll speak,” I told the witch flatly. “You’ll give me every name, every detail. Or I will peel it out of you piece by piece.

The witch smirked, though her lips trembled. “You wouldn’t dare. You’re an Alpha King, bound by laws and oaths. Torture isn’t fit for your hands.”

I crouched again, close enough that she could see the truth in my eyes. “The laws protect my people. Not you. Not traitors.”

Her defiance wavered. Sweat slid down her temple. She swallowed. “You don’t understand… she promised to free my child.”

My chest tightened. “Who?”

But she remained silent, her eyes looking down.

The two warriors standing with me didn’t need any command, they whipped her back until she bled. Her blood was dark and choking.

“Say it!” I thundered.

Chloe’s wolf charged at the iron bars of the den, trying to come in.

Harry knelt and caressed her fur to calm her.

When the witch couldn't take the beating anymore, she screamed.

“Violet!” The word tore out of her throat like bile. “It was Violet! She paid me, promised me sanctuary, promised I’d be safe in her pack and she would give me a place and enough money to heal my child. She asked me to take out the Luna before the ceremony.

Violet!

I wasn’t even surprised it was her.

“She wanted Alora dead,” the witch went on, her voice shaking. “No mating ceremony, no pup and no throne. That was her exact same word.

I rose slowly, fists clenched so tight my knuckles ached. “Where is she?”

The witch hesitated. Chloe lunged, snapping her jaws an inch from the woman’s face.

The witch shrieked. “She’s gone! She left last night…her father took her. They ran when they heard I’d been caught.”

My growl filled the chamber, rattling the walls. “You’ll rot here until I decide your fate.”

I stormed out, my voice echoing through the mindlink.

“Warriors, now. Hunt them. Let’s end this once and for all. Violet and Carrick will not see another dawn free”.
