CHAPTER 136: Reality Check

CHAPTER 136: Reality Check

Alora’s POV

I was asleep, but I could feel someone knocking on the door somewhere, but I couldn’t lift my head.

The knock came again, but this time it didn’t just stop there, there was a door opening swiftly and closing.

I blinked, half caught in sleep, and felt Morgan stiffen beneath me. He had felt it too.

That was when I realized I was sprawled on top of him, my cheek resting on his chest, his arm still wrapped lazily around my waist. Someone had just barged in on us wrapped around each other.

“Alpha!” Harry’s voice came out rushed, filled with urgency. His eyes widened the moment he took in the sight of me tangled with Morgan on the bed.

Morgan growled and flared at him. “Harry, don’t you know how to knock? He asked, glaring at him and adjusting the duvet so it covered me to the neck.

Harry swallowed, color rising on his face. “I did knock…” He glanced at me quickly, then back to Morgan. “I forgot Luna was… here. I wouldn’t have…”

“Wouldn’t have barged in on my mate?” Morgan snapped. His hand brushed over my hip protectively, pulling me tighter against him as if to make a point. “What if she was naked? How do you forget my mate is with me?

“I’m sorry, Alpha,” Harry said quickly, bowing his head.

I buried my face in his neck out of embarrassment and I felt him take a sharp breath. Then he turned me over to my back, pulling the duvet right around me and gazing at me. “I’m sorry Chula…did I wake you?”

I shook my head. “No” I replied nervously, knowing we had an audience.

Then he bent down and planted a kiss on my mouth right there, his lips lingering more than a little kiss should. It felt like he was torn between two options. Harry cleared his throat to let us know he was still there.

I stiffened.

“What is it, Harry? Why are you in my room so early?” He asked, his face still glued to mine, searching me, and licking his lips.

“There’s… an emergency council meeting. You’re needed. Now.”

Morgan’s eyes narrowed, and he turned to him. “An emergency meeting at this hour?”

Harry shifted his weight from one foot to the other. “I don’t know all the details. But it sounded serious.”

I tried to sit up, but Morgan shook his head. “You should sleep more, Chula. I’ll handle this.”

“But I want to come with you”

He shook his head. “I don’t think that’s a good idea.”

“But I am your Luna” I replied, frowning.

“I know baby, but the elders are very traditional, and we’re not official yet,” he reasoned.

I sat up, turning my back to him.

He pushed his hair away from his face. “Fine,” Morgan muttered, standing to dress. I followed his every movement, admiring his hard beautiful back and round butts. His body has healed nicely. The only thing visible were scars. It was like a miracle had occurred in the night.

I felt my body stir at the sight of him.

Harry looked away as he stood up naked.

After wearing his trousers, he turned to Harry. “I don’t know why the elders couldn’t reach out to me through the mindlink, but this has better be good.”

Harry nodded quickly and glanced up at me. “Hi Luna, I’m sorry to wake you up. I can see you slept well” he teased.

I smiled and threw the pillow at him while Morgan glared at him.

“How is Chloe”? I threw in, also wanting to rattle him. He thought I didn’t know, but I knew. I smelled Chloe on him even as he stood there.

He gulped and looked down. “She should be fine I guess,” feigning ignorance.

I chuckled

Morgan threw his shirt at me and a pair of joggers before turning to Harry.

“I’ll be there shortly”, his eyes urging him to leave.

Harry nodded quickly, retreating a step. His eyes flickered toward me, then away, a strange unease tightening his features.

There was a lot of tension radiating from the council chambers.

Jones and Selene were already there together with other council members who spoke in low tones.

Harry stepped in to announce our arrival.

Everyone in the chamber stood up and gave a bow in greeting.

Morgan raised his hands, and they all scurried to their seats.

Morgan led me to a seat close to his, his hands holding right into mine.

Dozens of eyes turned toward us. Some filled with reverence, others hard with suspicion.

One of the elders, a wiry man with silver streaking his dark beard, rose to his feet. “Alpha,” he said stiffly. “We are gathered because there are grave matters we can no longer ignore.”

Then he turned to me. “She is not supposed to be here. She is not recognized as your Luna yet.”

Morgan’s hand closed firmly around mine, grounding me as whispers and murmurs rippled through the chamber, and eyes turned to me.

“What is this really about? This is my mate, and she has every right to be here”, he countered.

The elder’s gaze flicked toward me like I was the problem. “This is about your choice of Luna. She is your mate, yes, but she is not our Luna.”

A low growl rumbled in Morgan’s chest. “Alora is my mate, and I have the right to choose my Luna. That’s not up for debate.”

“It is when her existence threatens the pack,” another elder snapped, rising from his seat. His robes swayed as he stepped forward, his fingers pointed like a dagger.

“The prophecy warns of a hybrid who will bring ruin. Are we to believe it’s a mere coincidence that she appeared now, bonded to our Alpha?”

There was a tense silence before he continued, “You almost died because of her. We’ve never had a back-to-back attack the way we did a month ago, and it’s all because of her.”

Morgan stood up, his voice thundering across the room.

“What are you saying? How is it my mate’s fault that Xavier attacked us? I remember coming here to inform you of his demand at the time the jaguars attacked us. Was it my mate that sent the jaguars? Why the hate on my mate? What did she do to deserve that”? He asked in a thunderous voice, looking around, and daring anyone to say something.

The elder that has spoken before stood up “With due respect, Alpha King. We’ve never had a jaguar attack before until your Luna came along. I remember you once told us you were attacked by a jaguar while she was there. It was the first time you'd been attacked by them and, from what the sage said, the jaguars had a link to her Lycan side. She is a two-edged sword. A human, a Lycan and a wolf, a fae and a healer. She is wanted on every side and her family tree is too complicated. We have every reason to believe she was the reason for the attack”.

Morgan advanced towards the elder. “She’s not a curse. She’s the reason I’m standing here alive. She’s healed warriors you would have buried. She’s saved this pack more times than any of you ever have, sitting on your chairs, spewing fear.”

“She didn’t do anything, she only solved the problem she created”

Shouts broke out among the elders, their arguments clashing like steel. Some shouted agreement, others hurled accusations. The chamber was splintering before my eyes, unity fracturing into chaos.

“Silence!” Morgan roared, but the words barely held them.

And then, without warning, the heavy doors of the chamber creaked open.

The sound alone silenced the room.

Every elder froze, heads turning toward the doorway as though compelled by unseen force.

A tall imposing man walked into the room. His presence alone silenced the room and everybody instinctively bowed.

My breath caught in my throat.

“Grandfather,” I whispered.

He turned to me, his eyes sweeping over me and stopping at my entwined hands with Morgan.

Just then, another figure stepped into the room. She was the spitting image of my mate.

Morgan stiffened beside me while I gasped.

Another murmur and gasp broke out from the room.
