CHAPTER 133: Lucid Dream
CHAPTER 133: Lucid Dream
Morgan’s POV
It was my coronation day as the alpha of the Bloodfang pack. My father, Alpha King Blackwood, sat on the throne with his Queen, Queen Ashina, their eyes filled with love and pride. King Kierian, the king of the Werejaguars, sat beside her while his enforcer stood behind watching everything with a smile on his face.
As soon as I was crowned the Alpha King, there was commotion outside the pack house, and gunshots were heard.
I turned to my father, who was already up and noticed King Kierian smiling, his eyes fixed on my mother.
Within a twinkle of an eye, everything changed.
My mother was on her knees, held by the throat by the Jaguar king, his eyes trained on my father, who had been floored by his enforcer.
There was a strong stench of blood coming in from outside, and cries of wolves and howls tearing through the pack. The pack link tettered and snapped as wolves began to lose their lives.
In the throne room, my father was forced to kneel at Kierian's feet, silver chains biting into his wrists, while my mother’s cry split the air.
I knelt beside her, as she reached out and held my hands, my little sister, Elena, in front of my father, also on her knees, balling her eyes out.
Xavier, who was beside me and his mate, shook like a leaf in autumn, his eyes red rimmed with tears while his parents knelt beside him, pleading with King Kierian to spare us.
“Kierian, what is going on”? My father asked in horror.
King Kierian only laughed, a dry hollow laugh as a response.
“I thought we were friends? What did my pack do to deserve such treatment from you”? My father asked, his face ashen as he had aged backwards in less than a few minutes.
He stepped forward, planting his butt on my father's throne, his golden eyes gleaming with the satisfaction of a predator who had already decided how the hunt would end.
Then he turned to my mother. “I gave you a choice. Three times Ashina…three good times to choose between me and him, but you chose him”. His eyes turned to my father, looking down at him in disdain.
“You thought I wasn't good enough because jaguars don't live in packs. You saw me as inferior, someone you cannot associate with. Now look who is king now… Me” he said, pointing to his chest and laughing like a maniac.
My father turned to him. “But you never told me you loved my mate…we’ve been friends for more than a decade.”
“You should have known. I found her first, but you came along and claimed her because you’re a werewolf, and I am not” he growled.
“And for your ignorance, your pup will suffer”
He turned to me with a mocking bow. “All hail King Morgan, a boy who thinks he’ll grow into an Alpha”.
His warriors surrounding us laughed along with him, and stopped at the same time like robots immediately his hands went up in the air.
He drew closer to me. “So, tell me, child… which blood do you prefer staining your hands first? Your father’s, your mother’s… or that little sister clinging to her skirts?”
I tried to speak. Nothing came. My lips opened and closed like a drowning man.
“Choose, Morgan,” Kierian’s voice was hard and cruel. “Your pack… or your friend.”
I turned, and there was Xavier. He looked younger than the last time I saw him. He was my best friend. I was given the option to choose between him and his family. His mate was part of his family.
My heart sank, and I shook my head. “I cannot choose.”
“Then they both die” the jaguar king replied, gesturing to the enforcer standing in front of Xavier’s mate to end her.
“Her blood will be on your hands,” Kerien said. Before I could say another word, she was beheaded in front of all of us. Her blood spilled on the floor like water, some of it splashing on the jaguar king.
“Your best friend will be next” he laughed, wiping the blood from his face.
“Noooo…” Xavier’s voice tore through the pack house, as the next enforcer went for him.
I rushed forward and grabbed him from behind.
The next thing I knew, my parents lay on the floor, in the pool of their own blood while I stood above them, holding a silver dagger that was digging into my skin, scalding me, but I didn’t care.
But the moment shattered. Xavier stood at the other end of the room with a terrifying smile on his face. His eyes were pure black and claws raked across my skin. His cruel laughter echoed around me.
I felt my sister’s hand reaching out to me, she was covered in blood. It ran down her neck from a deep raw cut, it dripped from her mouth, eyes and nose and her hands were stretched out, reaching for me. Laughter, guttural and familiar, echoed around me.
I tried to reach out to her, our hands almost touching, but some invisible force was dragging me away.
“Morgan, please save me!” she screamed, clawing to get to me but to no avail. She kept slipping away until her cries were only an echo.
Suddenly, I was no longer in the hall. I was strapped down, blood gushing from my side. Xavier loomed above me, whip in hand, scars fresh across my chest.
Every lash blurred into the sound of my mother’s scream, my father’s dying eyes, my sister’s desperate reach.
Xavier stood by the corner laughing like a maniac.
“No!” I choked on the word, thrashing against invisible chains. My own claws tore at the sheets.
“Morgan…Morgan!”
A hand was trying to jostle me awake. I could feel the press of someone’s hand on my shoulders as I struggled to wake up.
I needed to wake up. As I finally jolted awake, I could feel my heart beating in my chest as if it was going to come out, while the remnants of the nightmare I just had clashed with the peaceful reality of my present.
I turned and saw Alora beside me, her eyes wide with fear.
Sweat glued my pajamas to my skin despite the air conditioning buzzing in the room.
She turned on the bed lamp on her side and then reached out to cup my face with her hands, looking into my eyes with a soft worried expression. My wolf snarled, then whimpered.
“You’re safe, my love…you're with me. I just need you to breathe.” She whispered, stroking my damp hair, rubbing my back with her hands, and placing my face on her lap.
I felt the tears well up in my eyes.
It was a dream.
It wasn’t the first, the second nor the hundredth time I’ve had the same recurring dream. Only this time, the last scene was replaced by Xavier.
I buried my face against her neck, shaking like a child.
After some minutes, she adjusted her position, pushing me upwards, so my face was in between her breasts.
