Chapter 25

The morning light streamed into the room, peeking through the blinds as it smiled at the occupants of the room, a visual reminder that they made it through another night and should get up. Sandra stretched out on the bed as she opened her eyes, her mouth tilting into an amused grin as her eyes fell on the silhouette of her best friend lying beside her and wished she was in her house rather than hers. She pursed her lips, thinking of what to do to make Veronica see logic past her emotions and go back to her husband's house. She knew without being told that she missed him as Veronica had left many pointers to cement that conviction without needing to tell her.

Sandra sighed as she looked at Veronica cuddled up on the bed and shook her head. "Good morning, babe."

Veronica smiled weakly at her. "Good morning. Ah! I am hungry."

Sandra nodded. "Do you eat at this time already? It is just a little bit after six am."

Veronica nodded. "I wake up hungry at times so Adam wakes up early to make breakfast for..." She stopped, frowning realizing she was talking about Adam when she didn't even want to think of him.

Sandra smiled. "You miss him." She pointed out.

Veronica scoffed, sitting up in bed. "I don't miss him."

"Of course, you do." Sandra teased her. She cleared her throat. "I'm sorry but I can't wake up at five every morning to make breakfast for you. I am not as caring as Adam so I think you should go back to your husband. At least, for the baby's health."

Veronica scoffed. "I see what you are trying to do there. I can always eat cereals everyday when I wake up hungry and then we can make ourselves a hearty breakfast afterwards."

Sandra shook his head. "Gosh, you are stubborn. You are adamant about not going home. An adamant woman married to a man who bears the name Adam, the more I think of it, the more I feel the two of you are meant to be together."

Veronica scoffed. "Quit fooling around." She laughed. "I see what you are trying to do there."

"Did you?" Sandra grinned at her.

Veronica stood up from bed. "Ah! Let me go get myself some cereals. I am famished."

Sandra frowned. "I think I need to stock up on more cereals since we would be three eating my cereals now."

Veronica snorted. "Stop being ridiculous."

Sandra patted her mouth with her hand as she covered up a yawn. "How was your night? Did you have a nice sleep?"

Veronica frowned. "Not really. I will get used to it though."

Sandra nodded. She knew as she also hadn't been able to sleep. Veronica kept moving around on the bed and snuggling up to her. No one had to tell Sandra that her friend was used to sleeping with Adam and cuddling up with him. She sighed. She needed to find a way to join the two back together.

"What is this?" Bruce frowned as Adam placed a plate of steaming hot pancakes in front of him.

"Breakfast." Adam grinned.

Bruce scoffed. "Since when did you start making breakfast?"

Adam smiled, his face lighting up in humour though he still had a flash of pain in his eyes. "Since I got myself a pregnant wife.'

Bruce scowled, his face scrunching up. "Man, this is barely seven in the morning."

Adam's lips formed into a pout. "Are you not going to eat it? Veronica would have said thank you and dug in, eating everything like it's the best thing that she has ever eaten."

Bruce smiled. "You mean to say you are the best thing that has ever happened to her."

Adam shook his head in amusement. "Will you just dig in and eat already?" His lips quivered. "I miss how eager she is to eat and how cute she looks eating."

Bruce snorted. "Just tell me that you miss her."

Adam shook his head in denial. "Not really."

Bruce snorted and ate a mouthful of the pancake, his eyes widened and he moaned in delight. Adam had become a better cook than he was. "It's delicious." He said, giving him a thumbs up sign.

Adam beamed. "Thank you. I'm glad you like it. Let me go make some more."

Bruce shook his head as she watched his departing figure. It was obvious Adam was suffering because of the absence of Veronica and he wondered if she was that way as well. He scoffed. He needed to do something to help his boy.

He walked outside, dialing Sandra's number. "Hey." He said, immediately she picked up.

"Hi, Bruce. I didn't know you might call me." She chuckled. "I'm glad to know I made a good impression on you."

"Don't flatter yourself." Bruce laughed. He had forgotten how much he enjoyed her sense of humour.

"Let me guess then. This is about Adam."

He smiled. She was also intelligent. "Yes and Veronica. Speaking of her, is she with you?"

"Of course. I am close to home as she has."

Bruce breathed. "That is a relief. I was thinking she was in a hotel and could get herself in trouble again and feel reluctant to call Adam."

Sandra laughed. "You talk as if she is a trouble maker."

Bruce chuckled. "No but trouble has its way of finding her."

"Okay. Why did you call though? I'm sure it's not to make me laugh."

Bruce grinned. "There is no crime if I make you laugh. How is Veronica?"

Sandra snorted. "She is worse. I can tell she misses him but wouldn't admit it."

Bruce smiled. "Adam is worse. My man drank himself to bed last night and woke up flipping pancakes up and down saying Veronica wakes up hungry."

Sandra chuckled. Bruce continued. "Would you like to meet over lunch so we can discuss about how to get those two together?"

Sandra grinned. "I would love to and I think the both of us really need some breathing space from those two."

Bruce chuckled. "Never thought I would say this about Adam but I need some space at the moment from him. I can't keep watching him."

Sandra chuckled. "Understood. I will pick a restaurant and send you the address."

"Good." Bruce smiled and ended the call.
