Chapter 17
Adam dashed out of the car and rushed into the club, his eyes searching for Veronica. He was scared she wasn't drinking her head off and getting herself in trouble as she had done the other day he had saved her. He knew his heart wouldn't bear it if he saw other men harrasing her. He growled at the thought and charged deeper into the club.
He came to a brutal stop, frowning as he saw Erica in the club, carrying Veronica's bag. He knew it was his wife's bag as he had been at home when she had walked out of the house and h could see the small dent she had tried to fix before giving up on it and walking out of the house because she was getting late.
He scowled, wondering how they had met. He had no idea the two were friends. Okay, where was Veronica herself? He asked himself, his eyes searching for her as he focused on where Erica was. If Erica had her handbag, he could be sure she was not far off to where she was.
He gasped as he saw her. She looked unconscious, leaning on the shoulders of a man and the way the guy glanced at her while he led her away socked him in the guts. At that moment, he realized Erica was up to no good and he was pleased to know that she wasn't friends with Veronica. He growled as his eyes traced the movement of the duo with Veronica, watching how they pulled her towards the direction of the rooms. Adam flinched, hiding so Erica wouldn't see him. She seemed to be on the lookout and acting like they were helping up a friend who was drunk so others wouldn't suspect them.
Adam scoffed. It was painfully obvious that Veronica was drugged and not drunk but everyone at the bar was used to minding their own business that they didn't even look at them twice and moreover, Erica was doing a good job of making it look like th the three of them were friends. She couldn't have picked a better location for her atrocities and he must confess that her acting skills also got better. She had always wanted to go into acting as well apart from her modeling shows but she always came home dejected after each audition, drowning his ears of how directors told her that she sucked at acting and he would be forced to console her all day and give her encouragement for the next audition she would go and come home crying from.
He scoffed as he saw her. Directors would be a fool to reject her. With a little practice, she would get to have a role as a lead character as she had always wanted. Or so she thought because he was going to make sure the last thing on her mind was Hollywood by the time he was done with her.
He shook his head, snapping himself back to the present. His girl was in danger. With a quick move of his hand, he swiped his phone out of his pockets and dialed Bruce.
"Man, I was just about to call you right now." Bruce said as soon as he picked the call.
"What is the problem?"
"Sandra, Veronica's best friend came by the office asking if you found where Veronica is. She went to her office as she wanted to tell her something but she wasn't picking up and was told that she went out. She was told though by the secretary that you also came for her and she came here to ask if you know where Veronica is as she doesn't have your contact details."
Adam groaned at Bruce's lengthy words. "Bruce, we don't have time for this right now."
Bruce scowled. "Is anything the problem?"
Adam sighed. "Veronica is in danger. I think Erica drugged her and is trying to get her raped so she could get to write a scandal."
Bruce cursed, flying off his desk. "Shit." He ignored Sandra's surprised look and ran out of the office, aware that she was running after him.
Adam continued. "I need you to get the police here as fast as you can, Bruce. I'm going to stall and keep them here till the cops get here."
Bruce growled. "Don't do anything stupid, Adam."
"I won't but I am watching Veronica get harrassed while I wait for you and the cops to get here."
Bruce nodded, knowing there was nothing he could say to talk Adam out of going after Erica and whoever was with her to get their dirty deeds done. "Okay but be careful, boy."
Adam nodded. "I will but get here soon."
Bruce grunted in reply, clicked off the call, put the phone in his pockets and yanked open the car door. He looked in surprise as Sandra ran to the car, yanked the door open and slid right in.
He looked at her, a question in his eyes. She shrugged at him, fixing her seatbelt and he stared at her, amused, his hands placed on the wheel.
She snorted at him, gesturing to his hands which were placed on the wheel but without moving. "Are we not going again?"
"Where?" He scoffed at her. "Where do you think I am going?"
"That call you had was Adam and it sounded like there was trouble. If the husband of my friend is in trouble and my friend is unreachable, I have no business sitting idle and waiting for someone to tell me what is going on when I can go see for myself."
He chuckled at her explanation. "It can be dangerous out there."
She snorted. "Dangerous is my middle name."
He shook his head, starting the car. "Are you this reckless?"
"Oh, you mean to say loyal and daring for those I love."
He glanced at her, his expression blank and then smiled. "Okay but let it be known that I tried to stop you."
She snorted. "Get off your macho horse, man."
He chuckled and shook his head. She was an interesting lad. He passed his phone to her as he drove through a bend, the speed at which he drove frightening. "Take your phone and call the police. Tell them to meet us at the address on my phone."
She grinned as she picked up his phone on her laps. "I knew there was trouble. You must be glad I am here to help you."
"I am so filled with gratitude that my knees are getting weak."
She laughed. "Who could have thought a bodyguard as serious as you are have a sense of humour?"
He grunted without making a reply and sped through the lanes.
Adam dashed forward as soon as they walked into a corner away from the eyes of others. He was glad they did so as he didn't want attention. He didn't want news to spread of him fighting at a club as he tried to save Veronica.
He growled as he jumped into the path of Erica and the man tugging Veronica. "Let her go."
Erica glanced at him in surprise. "Adam, what are you doing here?"
He ignored her and repeated his growl to the man. "Let her go."
The man scoffed at him and glanced at Erica. "Who is this corporate idiot?" He shifted and balanced Veronica well on his shoulder as her head was already sliding off.
Adam glared at him. Corporate idiot? His fists flexed, ready to have a go at the man's jaws. He hoped Bruce came quickly with the cops before he did something stupid and end up getting charged with murder.
He hissed at the man. "I am her husband so if you know what is good for you, you let her go right now."
The man hissed at Erica. "You didn't tell me she was married."
Erica scoffed. "I didn't know I have to tell you. Everyone knew of her wedding."
"Well, not everyone reads the news."
Erica hissed at him. "Next time, get current, my friend."
"Bitch." He spat at her.
They spent the next few minutes bickering and raising their voices at each other. Adam didn't even attempt to go for Veronica lest he interrupted their flow of insults at each other. He checked at his watch, hoping Bruce came quickly with the cops.
"Are you not going to do as we have planned because she has a husband? I have paid you for this and you can't just bail out on me because of your unwanted conscience."
"I thought I was only helping you get revenge on a lady who hurt you, you didn't tell me I was also going to break a home. You said you only want to blackmail her with this to get money from her."
Erica rolled her eyes, grateful she hadn't told him Veronica was going to be on the news by the time she was done with her. She couldn't believe he was acting the way he was. She had thought he had a dead conscience based on how he looked and where she saw him. She couldn't believe he was a thug with a conscience who had an issue against sleeping with married women.
"Does it matter?" Erica yelled at him.
Adam whispered at the man, seeing that his resolve was getting weakened. "I can tell you that she lied to you. The woman in your hand had never hurt her. Let her go and I promise you that you won't have to suffer for it."
The man swallowed. He glanced at Erica and she growled at him. "Don't you dare!"
He hissed at her. "What do you want me to do?"
She nodded. "Now, you are thinking. I want you to snap his head off and then we move on to the task as planned."
Adam gasped. "Erica!"
"What?" She glared at him. "I am going to ruin your life, Adam and make you regret the day you threw me out of your office."
Adam hissed. "I threw you out because you were trying to seduce me knowing well that I am married."
She scoffed. "Whatever! I am going to do what I want to do with your wife and by the time I am done with her, she is going to curse the day she met you." She turned to the man. "Get him."
Adam prepared himself for a fight and sagged with relief when he saw Bruce running in with Sandra at his tails. He smiled. Help had finally arrived.
Bruce growled. "Drop the woman and live."
Erica gasped and shifted backwards at the menacing structure of Bruce. "What is all these?" She groaned.
"Your nemesis, Erica Kings." He smiled at her, moving forward to catch Veronica as the thug dropped her off in fright, bouncing to fight off Bruce.
Sandra groaned as she leaped forward and caught Veronica, her hands linking up with Adam. She looked up at him. "Leave her. I got her. Go and help Bruce."
Adam shook his head, chuckling. "Bruce doesn't need help. You can be sure he is enjoying himself at the moment. He will only snap at me if I get in his way."
"Then make sure that bitch doesn't get away." Sandra said, pointing at Erica.
Adam growled as he saw that Erica was trying to move around Bruce and her thug and run away. He ran to where she was and held her by the hand. "Not so fast, little lady."
She hissed at him, baring her teeth. "Leave me the hell alone."
He grinned at her. "You can bet your space in hell that I won't."
"Everyone, stop."
Adam breathed in relief as the cops came in and surrounded them all. They were all safe. Erica glowered at him and bit her lips, cursing him to the moon and back.
"Officer, they tried to attack me." She whined, quickly trying to turn the table on Adam.
Sandra stood up from where she was perched beside Veronica. "I was the one who called, officer and this woman is lying."
"And I have a recording of what happened right here." Adam said, waving his phone up with a smile.
Erica hissed at him, wondering when he started the recording. The bastard!
"Shit!" She groaned, sucking in her lower lip as she was being walked out of the club with handcuffs on her hand, the thug she had hired beside her.
Sandra took her phone out and took pictures of Erica in handcuffs. She smiled at Bruce when he looked at her. "Pictures for my blog. I would call that payment for my efforts."
He snorted. "I thought you do it out of loyalty."
She smiled at him. "Exactly. If she wants to humiliate my Vee by making a scandal of her, it's only right that I pay back the honour."
Bruce grinned at her logic. "Veronica must be really grateful to have you."
Sandra smiled at him. "Do tell her that when she wakes up."
