Chapter 66
Scarlet Wolff
I rolled on the bed for the umpteenth time before sitting up, running my fingers through my hair frustratingly.
I have been indoor ever since I got back from school. Just lying on bed, staring at the ceiling and wallowing in thought.
I lazily reached for my phone, and a gasp tore through my throat when I saw what time it was. 19:30.
My stomach grumbled at that moment, reminding me that I hadn't eaten yet, so I got out of bed and dashed out of my room.
My heart skipped a beat the moment I walked inside the kitchen and found Lucien cooking.
"Hey!" He looked back at me over his shoulder, a small smile playing on his lips.
"Hmm." I just hummed, swallowing nothing.
"Do you need anything?" He turned to face me, his eyes boring into mine.
My eyes darted to the oven, and back at him.
"Oh... I'm baking waffles. I figured you haven't had dinner yet, so I thought you would like it." He explained, smiling at me.
"Alright." I replied to him casually, and turned to get juice from the refrigerator.
"It's ready. You can wait in the dining room. I'll bring it in a minute." He told me as I picked out a bottle of orange juice from the refrigerator.
"Alright. Thank you." I muttered, then turned and headed out of the kitchen, not before picking up a glass cup.
I fondled my fingers, my palms sweaty as I gazed down at the table. I had no idea how I was feeling at the moment.
My attention was split when Lucien walked inside with a plate and waffles on them.
"Here you go." He dropped the plate right in front of me.
"I brought ketchup, in case you need it." He added as he dropped the bottle of ketchup beside the plate.
"Thank you." I flashed him a smile.
"Chilled water, or-"
"Don't worry. I'll go get it." I shot to my feet as I cut him off.
"I got this." He gently rubbed my arm and smiled before leaving for the kitchen, while I sat back on the chair.
He returned shortly after with a bottle of chilled water and a glass cup.
"There you go." He poured some for me.
"Let's eat."
He pulled out a chair across from me and sat on it before digging into his food, and I did the same.
An awkward silence crept into the atmosphere. I could hear my heart in my ears as it pounded hard in my chest loudly. My hands were almost trembling, and when I felt his eyes on me, the sudden urge to disappear from here washed over me.
"Scarlet..." he broke the silence, and I managed to raise my gaze to meet his.
"Look..." he paused, dropping his cutleries and reaching for my hand. "I'm sorry about the way I treated you. I'm really tired of living like this with you. Can you ease up, please?" His eyes bored into mine softly.
I felt my core tighten, a soft lush creeping up my body as he gently squeezed my palm.
"I will make it up to you, I promise." He added, his eyes dripping with sincerity.
"Lucien..." I cleared my throat, trying to retract my hand from his grasp, but his grip tightened, and I had to give up.
"This is not the conversation we are supposed to be having. You know that, right?" My voice came out calmly.
He exhaled, letting go of me this time as he reclined on the chair.
"Scarlet-"
"Why don't you want to talk about it? All I need is an assurance. All I need is for you to tell me the truth. Why is it so difficult to do?" I tried to compose myself as I spoke to him. He was becoming even more suspicious.
"I don't want to talk about it, Scarlet. It's best if you give it up already." He muttered as he picked up a serviette and cleaned his mouth with it.
"What? Are you leaving?" I huffed when he suddenly shot to his feet.
"I lost my appetite." He muttered and turned to leave.
"Or you are afraid of admitting what you do?"
He halted abruptly.
"What? You are not proud of what you do, are you?" I scoffed, and this time, he turned to face me. His expression was unreadable. His jaws were clenched tightly, but I couldn't tell if he was angry or not.
"I told you to let this go already, Scarlet. It's not something-"
"You are my man, Lucien! My fucking man!" I slammed my hands on the table as I shot to my feet.
His eyebrows twitched, his expression changed into disbelief.
I bit my lip hard as the realisation of what I just said hit me hard.
"Your man?" He scoffed, tucking his hands inside his pockets.
"I-"
"You are my best friend's daughter, Scarlet. Need I remind you of that?" He looked straight into my eyes, his face void of emotions.
"Huh?" I batted my eyelashes.
"What we have together only ends in the bedroom. On the bed. I can't be your man." He picked his words one after the other, his eyes piercing into mine. Without remorse.
I felt a sting in my heart as though a dagger was just drawn through it. My stomach twisted painfully, and my eyes stung with tears, but I forced them back.
"I'm sorry to say this, but don't overstep your boundaries, Scarlet. And don't make assumptions." and with that, he turned his back on me and walked away. Not sparing me another glance.
I stood on the same spot, staring at him until he was out of my sight. My tears finally found their way down my cheeks as my jaws clenched tightly.
My legs trembled beneath me, and I fell weakly back to the chair when I couldn't keep standing on them.
What was I expecting? From the start, I was nothing to him more than just a sex toy. I was only lusting over him. He told me from the beginning, but I still went ahead to do this. He warned me.
"It's all your fault, Scarlet. You have no right to get hurt. You brought this upon yourself." I huffed, a painful smile spreading across my lips as I stared into space...
