Chapter 270 Actually Not Intentional
Chapter 270 Actually Not Intentional
Just then, a server approached.
She'd actually been standing nearby for quite a while, but sensing the tense atmosphere at the table, she hadn't dared interrupt.
The kitchen had already asked several times whether to bring out the food, and she had no choice but to steel herself and approach.
"Sir, should I bring out your dishes? They're ready, and if you don't eat soon, they'll get cold..."
Her voice grew quieter and quieter as she watched Sebastian's expression darken further. She didn't dare continue.
"Check."
Sebastian waved his hand dismissively and thrust his card at her.
The server froze.
She accepted the bank card somewhat dazedly, then watched as Sebastian strode toward the cashier.
At that moment, Matthew observed Sebastian's furious departure and couldn't help but smirk, his mood lifting considerably.
Though he hadn't done it on purpose, getting under his rival's skin was always a bonus.
He chuckled softly, slowly withdrew his gaze, and headed upstairs.
Meanwhile, Jasmine stared at Sebastian's retreating back, completely stunned.
Because she was realizing this wasn't playing out at all like she'd imagined.
The thought that Sebastian was this angry over Elena made her clench her fists. After a moment's hesitation, she chased after him.
She finally caught up to him at the entrance, blocking his path.
"Sebastian, are you going to see her? I won't allow it!"
"Sebastian, don't forget—we have an engagement! We're supposed to get married!"
"If you don't marry me, you won't get a single thing from the Crawley family!"
Hearing her threaten him with the Crawley family, Sebastian let out a cold laugh, his eyes full of mockery. "You think I actually care about what the Crawleys have? You think I can't get all that on my own?"
"Stop deluding yourself. I'm never going to marry you."
After saying this, Sebastian seemed to think of something. His eyes narrowed slightly as he took a step forward, suddenly closing the distance between them.
"Jasmine, you'd better watch yourself. Don't let yourself get blindsided one of these days."
With that, Sebastian didn't linger another second. He strode away.
Hearing Sebastian's footsteps fade, Jasmine stood there confused, about to call after him when her phone suddenly rang.
She pulled it out, and the moment she saw the name, her brow furrowed. Still, she answered.
"Hello, Butler, why are you calling me?"
"Lady Jasmine, something terrible has happened!"
The butler's voice on the other end was extremely panicked. "The Crawley family's cash flow has serious problems. Not only can we not pay for the projects we'd already agreed to, but the ongoing projects can't continue either."
"Just now, people from the regulatory office came and took your father in for questioning!"
Jasmine paused, then her expression changed drastically as it sank in. "What?! How did this happen?!"
"Lady Jasmine, you need to come back quickly—the household is in complete chaos!"
Hearing the butler's frantic words, Jasmine had no time to think about anything else.
She only knew that the Crawley family was her foundation. If it collapsed, she'd be finished too.
So she immediately agreed and rushed off.
After she left, Emma stood at the entrance, lost in thought.
Earlier, when Jasmine had chased after Sebastian, Emma had followed them out.
Who would have thought she'd not only witness their argument but also overhear Jasmine's phone call?
Emma lowered her gaze to the patterned tiles at her feet, gradually sinking deeper into thought.
...
At that moment, Elena had returned to the penthouse.
Helen was cleaning the living room and looked somewhat surprised to see her come back so suddenly.
"Lady Elena, how come you're... have you had dinner?"
Elena shook her head, her mood particularly low. After changing her shoes, she threw herself onto the sofa.
Helen looked confused. That afternoon she'd received Elena's message saying she wouldn't be home for dinner, so she hadn't prepared anything.
Now Elena had suddenly returned, catching her off guard with nothing ready.
Thinking quickly, Helen hurriedly put away her cleaning cloth and headed toward the kitchen while speaking.
"Um, Lady Elena, have some cake first. I'll make you dinner right away."
Elena nodded and murmured her agreement.
After lying on the sofa a while longer, feeling she'd recovered some energy, she was about to get up to get the cake when her phone suddenly vibrated, indicating an incoming message.
Hearing the sound, a flash of hope lit Elena's eyes. She quickly grabbed it.
The moment she saw the content, the anticipation in her eyes gradually faded, replaced by disappointment.
She'd thought it was a message from Sebastian, but it was from Matthew.
The message was simple, asking how she was and whether she'd gotten home safely.
After staring at the message for a while, she took a deep breath and replied.
[I'm fine, already home.]
[Is that so? That's good then.]
Looking at the message that came through the next second, Elena's expression remained completely indifferent.
She was about to put down her phone to get the cake when the doorbell rang.
Elena froze as a thought flashed through her mind.
Could it be Sebastian?
After all, he lived across from her, so maybe...
With that thought, she hurried to the door and opened it.
But the next moment, the smile on her face instantly froze.
Staring at Roman and Lucas standing outside, her expression gradually withdrew, and she spoke expressionlessly.
"What are you doing here?"
Sensing Elena's coldness and the impatience between her brows, Roman recalled the expression he'd seen the moment she opened the door, and disappointment immediately welled up in his heart.
"Elena, do you really not want to see us that badly?"
Elena stared at him quietly for a long moment before finally speaking.
"So do you have something you need?"
"If not, please leave."
With that, Elena moved to close the door, but Lucas quickly braced it open with his hand, lifting his small face with a pleading look. "Mommy, I wanted to see you, so I asked Daddy to bring me."
"I bought this when we passed by the mall. It's for you."
As he spoke, Lucas pulled out a small gift box and opened the lid.
Inside was a little teddy bear plushie with dark, shiny eyes. It was adorable.
Elena stared at the teddy bear for a while, about to say something when Helen hurried over to smooth things over.
"Lady Elena, this is Lucas's heartfelt gift. Why don't you accept it?"
"This teddy bear is so cute—Lucas must have put a lot of thought into choosing it."
Hearing Helen's gentle persuasion and looking into Lucas's pleading eyes, Elena sighed inwardly but still reached out to accept it.
"Thank you, Lucas."
"I'm glad you like it."
He lifted his small face, his fair cheeks full of smiles.
