Chapter 198
"Tell me what to do, what should I do?"
Ruby grabbed a bottle and took a couple of swigs, "My family's already discussing whether to call off my engagement. But I'm not willing to accept this."
All her life, she'd been the golden girl, the center of attention wherever she went.
As a member of the Hill family, Ruby had never known what it felt like to want something and not get it.
What's more, it was Michael who pursued her first.
Everyone around was saying she was Michael's first love, that she was the one he couldn't have.
Otherwise, with so many handsome guys around, why would Ruby only want Michael?
The bottle smashed on the floor as Ruby ground her teeth in hatred.
"You useless thing, hurry up and help me figure something out. What should I do? How can I save face?"
She'd been completely humiliated at today's party.
Even if she married Michael in the future, what would it matter? Everyone now knew that Michael didn't love her—he loved Diana.
From now on, whenever people mentioned the party, they'd remember what happened today.
Violet was scolded again. Though her face showed resentment, she didn't dare say a word, "Let's just be patient for now. Once you're married, you can deal with Diana however you want."
"You useless thing, always saying the same thing."
Ruby grabbed a bottle and threw it at her.
Violet jumped in fright. Seeing the bottle coming at her, she instinctively tried to dodge, but having drunk a bit, her movements were slow. The bottle hit her right on the head.
Blood immediately streamed down her face.
Violet screamed in terror, "I'm going to be disfigured! What do I do? How can I marry into a wealthy family now?"
No longer caring about Ruby, she ran off.
Ruby watched her retreating figure with even colder eyes.
Useless.
Even at a time like this, Violet was still worried about her face, without any consideration for her.
If no one would help, then she'd do it herself.
Diana thought she was about to be with Michael and rise in status. Then she'd completely destroy her. She wanted to see if Diana could still marry into a wealthy family after becoming a cripple, a waste.
Ruby's face twisted as she threw her head back and laughed, "You can't beat me, Diana. You'll never beat me in this lifetime."
Like Ruby, the Garcia family couldn't sleep either.
Orla was old and had already gone back to her room to sleep.
At this moment, Layla, Finn, and their two children were up all night.
They came to the living room one after another, looking at each other helplessly.
They knew clearly that if it were in the past, they might still be able to use family ties to build a good relationship with Diana, but now it was absolutely impossible, especially after offending her so badly.
At this party, both Michael and Diana were extremely disappointed in them.
Especially Diana.
Even if they used Orla, it probably wouldn't work anymore.
And just before going to sleep, Orla had said repeatedly that she would absolutely not help anymore.
"What do we do? In this situation, if Diana cuts ties with us, we'll be enemies. How can I marry Jake then?"
Thinking of Jake's cold eyes when he left, Veda wanted to crawl into a hole.
They'd already agreed that they'd all be one family, and even if Michael and Diana weren't married but just lovers, they could still get many benefits.
But now it was different. Anyone could see that their family had broken apart. Not only would they get no benefits, but they'd be schemed against.
Clearly, there was no benefit in associating with them. Who would be stupid enough to continue the engagement?
The more Veda thought about it, the more wronged she felt, "Dad, will the Sherman family break off the engagement? I'm going crazy. What should we do?"
Chase, beside her, also looked grim.
He'd thought today would be his most glorious day, announcing his engagement to Calla at Diana's birthday party.
Although he'd never really liked Calla, thinking of her as just a useless stepping stone, after what happened at the party, they probably had no chance anymore.
Not to mention, Calla was a woman who put profit first. Seeing their relationship with Diana so strained, she would definitely protect herself.
The only reason she hadn't spoken up yet was that things were at a critical point. In a few days, the matter would be settled.
Seeing Chase and Veda so worried, Layla wiped her tears, "But don't be too discouraged. So what if Michael acknowledged Diana? The Johnson family will never accept her."
No matter what, it was true that Cleo had made a scene at the party.
Even if Michael was deeply in love with Diana and wouldn't marry anyone else, so what?
As long as Michael's family didn't agree, they could never be together.
One sentence ignited hope in the others.
"Right. But now we need to use this relationship to get more benefits. So what if we have conflicts? We're still family after all. We need to quickly expand the company. And you two need to make it clear to them that they need to weigh the pros and cons before breaking off the engagement."
As Finn spoke, a sinister expression appeared on his face, "So what if our relationship is bad? We're still family after all. Others won't dare do anything, because if things get too ugly, nobody benefits."
This was destined to be a sleepless night.
Many people were scheming against Michael and Diana.
But the people in question were sound asleep in bed.
The two had made love all night, only stopping in the morning, and were now tightly embraced.
Dawn broke, and sunlight streamed in.
They were awakened by the sun.
Diana looked at Michael's handsome face before her, her eyes filled with complex emotions.
It would be a lie to say she wasn't moved. For a moment yesterday, she really wanted to agree to him, and then face any problems together.
But thinking about all the troubles ahead, and that she still had things to do, she had to back down.
If they really got together, if Michael regretted it later, at most, he'd return to his family and continue being the heir to a wealthy family.
But what about her? She'd become a laughingstock in everyone's eyes.
She wouldn't allow herself to indulge in romance when Aria's matter hadn't been investigated yet.
Watching Michael sleep peacefully, Diana remembered she had an important meeting at the company today. She quietly got out of bed and was about to go to the bathroom when a large hand suddenly appeared around her waist, pulling her back.
"Why are you leaving so early?"
Michael's deep voice was incredibly sexy.
Diana shivered, "Look clearly. It's almost noon. Get up quickly. I have an important meeting."
