Chapter 237
Chapter 237
"How dare you say that! You can't have children because of this, and I'm your boyfriend. Why didn't you tell me first? Don't you think I'm the first person who has the right to know? You didn't tell me about this, and you keep calling to bother me. You are such a despicable and shameless woman."
Veda never expected that Chase would use words like "despicable and shameless" to describe her. Chase used to be so caring toward her. How did he become like this?
"Chase, do you have no feelings for me at all now? I'm so badly hurt, and you won't even come see me?"
Chase looked completely disdainful and said coldly, "Veda, why should I come see you? My time isn't for just anyone to waste. Besides, you can't even have children now. You're not even as good as a normal woman. Do you think I can still be with you?"
"Let me tell you, Veda, I'm being nice by not asking you to return all the things I gave you before."
Veda was shaking with anger.
"Chase, I never thought you'd be this kind of person."
Chase found it laughable.
"What's there to be surprised about? Don't you know what kind of person you are? I'm more than good enough for you."
After saying this, Chase hung up directly.
Veda listened to the dial tone on her phone, furious.
She got straight out of the hospital bed and wobbled step by step to the hospital corridor.
A nurse saw her come out and quickly stepped forward, asking gently, "Ms. Brown, do you need something? If you need anything, just press the bell by your bed. Your injuries haven't healed yet. You can't just get up and walk around."
Veda's eyes reddened, and she said directly, "I want to be discharged."
The nurse was stunned and said in surprise, "Ms. Brown, your wounds haven't healed yet. You can't be discharged now. If you insist on leaving, your wounds might get infected."
Veda was in no mood to recover now. She felt like she was the only person left in the world. That feeling of being helpless and alone felt especially terrifying.
"It's fine, don't worry about it. Discharge me right now, and refund all the money my dad deposited at the hospital."
Although the nurse didn't understand why Veda was doing this, she knew Veda's mood hadn't been good lately, so it was better not to provoke her.
"Alright, Ms. Brown, but if you insist on being discharged, you need to sign an injury acknowledgment form. This means you know your injuries haven't healed but still want to leave. If anything happens after discharge, our hospital won't be responsible."
Veda glared at the nurse. Although she was unhappy, she knew she was in no position to lose her temper now.
"I know."
The nurse brought out the injury acknowledgment form. After Veda signed it and got the remaining hospital fees, she left the hospital.
After leaving the hospital, she didn't return to the Brown family but went straight to the prison.
"Officer, please let me see my mom. Just one look, okay?"
Veda hadn't seen Hazel for several days now. This was the longest they'd been apart in their lives, and with everyone around her gone, Veda really wanted to see her mother.
"No, this is our job. You really can't see her. If my supervisor sees, I'll be punished."
Veda immediately started crying.
"Officer, please be kind. Just one look. I really won't cause any trouble. I just want to talk to my mom. Once I see she's okay, I'll leave."
The guard was annoyed by Veda's crying, so his expression turned sour.
"Leave now. Don't interfere with our work. If Hazel gets visitation rights later, I'll contact you."
Even though the guard said this, Veda still wouldn't leave. After thinking for a moment, she said, "Officer, why don't you arrest me too? Let me go to prison with my mom, okay? I'm guilty too. Everything my mom did before was because of me. I'm the real culprit."
Veda's words made the guard even more impatient.
"Stop causing trouble here. Leave now. We have a lot of work to do every day. No time to stay here with you."
After saying this, the guard turned to leave, but Veda blocked his way.
Veda looked pitiful as she knelt in front of him.
"Please, I just want to say one thing to my mother. I just want to see if she's okay, nothing else."
As Veda spoke, she took out a stack of cash from her pocket and quietly placed it in the guard's hand.
"Officer, take this money to buy some water. It's just a small token from me."
The guard had been unmoved before, but when he saw the stack of cash in Veda's hand, his expression changed. He quietly put the cash in his pocket, then put on an earnest look.
"You people are really foolish. When you were committing crimes, didn't you think about the suffering you'd face later? Don't break the law again. Today I'll let you see your mom."
Hearing this, Veda nodded quickly. She had no energy left to lose her temper, and she didn't want to argue with anyone now. She just wanted to see her mother's face and pour out her heart.
"Thank you, you're a good person."
The guard led Veda directly into the prison, then shouted to someone inside, "Hazel, someone's here to see you."
Hazel was slightly stunned.
"How could anyone still come to see me?"
The guard was getting impatient.
"When I tell you to come out, just come out. Your daughter is here to see you."
Hearing this, Hazel's eyes lit up, hardly believing it.
"What did you say? My daughter came to see me?"
Hazel quickly ran out from her dirty, messy, smelly cell. Seeing Veda standing there, she immediately burst into tears.
Hazel was also trembling all over with excitement.
But the guard nearby was completely unmoved by their scene, looking cold-hearted as he stated, "I'm telling you two, I'm only giving you 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, leave immediately."
After saying this, the guard turned and left. Veda threw herself into Hazel's arms.
