Chapter 156
Evelyn sat beside Mia, patiently explaining.
"Mrs. Wilson, Sophia and I have always been good friends. I'm her best friend, and no one knows her whereabouts better than me."
"If Sophia really went missing, how could I possibly have time to come see you? Wouldn't I be searching for Sophia all over the world?"
As Evelyn spoke, she pointed at Sophia.
"Mrs. Wilson, look at Sophia - she doesn't have a single injury on her. If she had gone missing, she would definitely look really rough."
Although Sophia had some minor injuries, they were all under her clothes. There were none on her face or exposed hands.
Also, the wound from when she saved James had opened up a little, but these weren't visible from the outside.
It was just that Sophia looked a bit tired right now.
"Exactly, Mom. If you don't believe me, check right now - I don't have a single injury anywhere. Besides, I'm living my life just fine, how could I possibly go missing?"
As Sophia said this, she even stood up and turned around in front of Mia to show that she wasn't hurt at all.
After hearing them both say this, Mia finally felt truly relieved.
"It's all my fault for believing Veda's words. These past few days I've been so worried about you, couldn't eat or drink, couldn't sleep at all at night."
"Even when Evelyn came to tell me you were on a business trip, I didn't believe it. Now it seems that Veda really wanted to harm me. Sophia, as long as you're okay, that's all that matters."
After saying this, a slight smile finally appeared on Mia's face. Seeing her smile, Sophia truly felt relieved. She was worried that Mia would worry about her.
Since childhood, although Sophia had suffered a lot and worked her way through school, she never told Mia about her hardships.
Because in her eyes, Mia had already suffered enough in this life.
When she was adopted, her adoptive father was still alive. Later, her adoptive father got sick and they had no money for treatment, so he passed away, leaving just her and Mia.
Mia supported Sophia just by farming. Because Mia was an honest and simple person, she was often bullied in the village.
Later, when Sophia grew up and knew how to protect Mia, the villagers didn't dare bully them anymore.
When Sophia went to school, she worked to support herself and brought Mia along with her.
Sophia was an extremely devoted daughter. She absolutely didn't want Mia to worry about her at all, so all these years when she was out working hard, she only shared good news, never bad.
But she never expected that Veda would be so asking for trouble, always causing problems.
"Mrs. Wilson, don't worry. Sophia has me, and even though my abilities are limited, there's still James, right? Many things I can't handle, but James can definitely handle them."
After mentioning James, Evelyn had much more to say.
"Mrs. Wilson, you have no idea how good James is to Sophia. He's incredibly good to her, so you really don't need to worry about Sophia's future. You just need to take care of your own health."
Evelyn steered the conversation to James, and Mia's face immediately showed a smile.
"Yes, Mr. Smith often comes to see me, and he speaks to me so gently, completely different from what people say about him. I believe he'll be very good to Sophia. If the two of them get together in the future, even if my illness doesn't get better, I can rest easy."
Hearing Mia say such depressing things, Sophia immediately became unhappy.
"Mom, please don't say such unlucky things anymore. You're definitely going to live a long life."
Mia smiled.
"Okay, okay, I won't say it anymore. As long as my precious daughter is healthy and not being bullied, my body will definitely recover."
Sophia and Evelyn stayed with Mia at the hospital all morning, had lunch with her at noon, and then left the hospital.
Evelyn went back to her home, while Sophia went straight to the Brown Group.
During the two days she was missing, she couldn't contact the outside world and didn't go to work. She didn't know if Hayden would have any problems.
Although her body was a bit tired, Sophia still came to the Brown Group. As soon as she returned to her workstation, Veda appeared.
When Veda saw Sophia, she looked sarcastic.
"Oh, you're willing to come back? Don't know which man you were fooling around with, causing such a big fuss, and I even got dragged into it."
Sophia took a deep breath. If it weren't for earning that bit of salary, she really wouldn't want to come to this place.
Every time she came to work, she could always hear Veda saying all sorts of sarcastic things. Before, Sophia would argue with her, but now she was fed up and didn't want to argue with Veda anymore.
Because she felt that arguing with Veda was really lowering herself, and it was a waste of time.
"Veda, are you out of things to say? Let me tell you, if you got dragged into my disappearance, it means your character isn't that great to begin with. Otherwise, why didn't James suspect anyone else but you?"
Veda was furious.
"Sophia, what do you mean by that? So I got dragged into this by you, and it's my fault? You're really something, disappearing for a day and a night and still managing to come back safe and sound."
Sophia snorted coldly. She could hear the disappointment in Veda's words.
"Sorry to disappoint you, but my life force is just that strong. How could I be easily defeated by others? Not to mention disappearing for a day and a night - even if I disappeared for a month, I could still come back safe and sound."
That day, Veda and Chase were at the Smith Group, in James's office for so long.
They never found Sophia, so they were kept there the whole time.
It wasn't until later when they were both nearly starving that the security guard at the door got word that Sophia had been found. Veda was really disappointed.
She didn't know who kidnapped Sophia, but thought that person was really incompetent. Since they had already kidnapped her, why didn't they just kill her?
Making such a big fuss and then letting Sophia come back in the end. And Veda looked Sophia up and down - this Sophia seemed completely unharmed.
"I thought someone could do the world a favor and kill you, this bitch, make you disappear from this world forever. But I never expected that Sophia, your luck is really good. You're really hard to kill!"
