Chapter 387
Chapter 387
Upstairs at the hospital.
Sterling was shut out of the hospital room.
Inside the room, Maria's face was ashen.
Nolan helped her sit down on the sofa.
"Are you trying to convince me to let him in again?" Before he could speak, Maria had already guessed his intent.
Nolan said, "Mr. Lancaster just said he's already found someone to treat Willow."
Maria glanced at her granddaughter on the hospital bed and said bitterly, "That's what he should do. Willow is carrying his child!"
Nolan opened his mouth. "But... Willow should also..."
He wanted to say that even though Willow was unconscious, she would probably want to see Sterling.
But seeing Maria's stubborn expression, the words reached his lips, but he didn't know how to say them.
Henry arrived with Adeline to find Sterling standing outside the hospital room like he was being punished.
"What, did Mrs. Spencer kick you out?" Henry glanced into the room, asking despite knowing the answer.
Sterling's gaze fell on Adeline behind him.
He had been sitting by the door and hadn't looked at his phone, so he didn't know about their sudden engagement.
Henry noticed his gaze and glanced back at Adeline, pulling a mischievous smile as he raised his hand to drape it around Adeline's shoulders.
Adeline's body visibly stiffened.
Henry gave a smug laugh and said to Sterling, "Allow me to introduce your future sister-in-law."
The engagement was now a done deal. He wouldn't go back on his word.
But since Adeline wasn't making things easy for him, he naturally wouldn't let her be comfortable either.
Sterling looked at the two of them and understood. He glanced at Henry but said nothing.
The Brown family owed Willow a great deal. It was only right that Henry make some sacrifices.
"I need to check on Ms. Spencer's condition first." Adeline quickly regained her composure, acting as if the hand on her shoulder didn't exist.
Sterling stood up and looked at her. "Then I'll trouble you."
He added, "Henry and I knocked, but Mrs. Spencer won't open the door. You go ahead."
Henry cooperatively removed his hand.
Adeline stepped forward and knocked on the door.
Inside the room, hearing the knock, Maria thought it was Sterling and didn't want to respond.
"Mrs. Spencer, it's a woman." Nolan looked through the window at the person outside.
Hearing this, Maria looked over in confusion, thinking it was one of her granddaughter's friends, and had Nolan open the door.
"Hello, I'm here to treat Ms. Spencer," Adeline spoke proactively, her smile very approachable.
Nolan saw the two men behind her and froze.
Sterling said, "She's from the Wilson family. Her medical skills can be trusted."
Henry also subtly tried to take credit with Maria inside.
"I sacrificed my marital happiness for the rest of my life to bring her here with great difficulty. Mrs. Spencer, please let her in to treat Willow!"
As he spoke, he craned his neck to look inside. "My parents are also very worried about Willow. Everyone wants to help."
Hearing that she had come to treat Willow, Maria's expression showed some hesitation.
Nolan turned to her and said, "The Wilson family is indeed a renowned medical family. If she's here to help Willow, we should let them in."
At the door, Henry looked through the gap at Willow lying on the hospital bed, his eyes full of anxiety.
After a long while, Maria stood up and walked over.
"Then I'll trouble Ms. Wilson." She made way for Adeline.
Behind her, Henry wanted to follow, but Maria blocked the doorway again.
"Ms. Wilson can come in. You two cannot." Maria's face was stern. "Don't think that just because you found a doctor for Willow, I'll be grateful. This is what you should have been doing all along!"
With that, Maria glanced at the two of them and said to Nolan, "Nolan, close the door."
Henry and Sterling cooperatively stopped and watched as Nolan shut the hospital room door in their faces.
Inside the room.
Adeline walked to the bedside and carefully examined Willow's condition, then confirmed some details with Nolan and Maria.
Maria and Nolan watched her work, their eyes full of concern.
After what seemed like forever, Adeline stopped.
"How is it? Can my granddaughter be saved?" Maria immediately asked.
Adeline said, "I have a general understanding of the situation, but I still need to talk to the lead surgeon. Waking up shouldn't be a problem. Her vital signs are being maintained very well. Mrs. Spencer, you don't need to be too nervous."
Maria's anxious heart eased slightly. "That's good, that's good."
Adeline gave her a reassuring smile. "I'll head out now."
Maria agreed and personally escorted her to the door.
As soon as Adeline reached the door, Henry and Sterling stopped her, asking about the situation.
Learning that she needed to see the lead surgeon, Sterling directly called him and took Adeline over.
"My sister can really wake up? You're not lying to us, are you?" On the way, Henry was skeptical.
Adeline walked ahead without even glancing at him. "Mr. Brown keeps his word and trusts me with Ms. Spencer. What I've promised, I will naturally deliver."
Henry thought of his sacrificed future and silently shut his mouth.
Adeline spoke with the lead surgeon for a while and confirmed the treatment plan.
Over the next few days, Adeline came to the hospital almost daily, with Henry following along, though he could only wait outside the hospital room door.
After Matthew's injury healed, he rushed to the hospital only to find Henry lurking suspiciously by the door.
"What are you doing here?" Matthew walked to the door unhappily, his face clearly showing he wasn't welcome.
Henry had also seen that recent livestream, especially Elaine's bold confession, and had learned from Sterling about his relationship with Willow.
He instinctively considered the other man one of his own and complained to Matthew.
"I came to see Willow. Mrs. Spencer won't let me in, so I can only wait outside the door."
Then Henry's eyes lit up as he patted Matthew's shoulder. "You came at just the right time. Think of something—help me lure Mrs. Spencer out so I can go in and see her. Just one look."
The moment Henry's hand landed on Matthew's shoulder, he coldly brushed it off.
Henry froze.
The next second, he heard Matthew's cold voice. "Don't even think about it. You're not welcome here."
"You..." Henry wanted to say something.
Matthew stepped closer, his tone full of warning. "Willow only has me as her brother. Her family is only me and Mrs. Spencer. No matter how powerful and influential the Brown family is, it has nothing to do with her."
With that, Matthew gave him a disgusted look and pushed the door open to go inside.
Henry looked at his cold, retreating back, opened his mouth, then sighed helplessly.
It was true that he hadn't protected Willow. He had no recourse if Maria and Matthew were angry with him.
Inside the room, Adeline had just finished the final treatment session for Willow.
"That should do it. If nothing unexpected happens, Ms. Spencer should wake up in the next couple of days." She said.
Maria had been watching her treatments over the past few days and thanked her repeatedly.
Matthew also understood the general situation and thanked Adeline, personally escorting her out.
