Chapter 28 They Really Do Make a Perfect Pair
Isabella wasn't very surprised.
She knew without thinking that Mike must have told Richard about her situation.
"It's nothing serious. Apart from some swelling and pain when touched, it won't affect my work at all."
Isabella emphasized her work condition, then heard Richard chuckle.
"I never doubt your work ability, but if my employee's work progress suffers greatly because she's working while sick, and she doesn't get the rest she deserves, I would find that regrettable."
Isabella placed the materials she brought in front of Richard.
"Mr. Spencer, you can rest assured, I'm not someone who forces herself."
After casually flipping through these job applicants' resumes, Richard's brow relaxed, and he folded his hands on his lap. "I've already reviewed these materials. What do you think of their qualifications?"
"Judging from their resumes, these people are definitely capable. Some even have more project experience than I." Isabella said modestly.
Richard also laughed, "After this lab is set up, you'll be their supervisor. Being modest in front of me is fine, but you need to establish authority in front of them."
Managing the work progress between superiors and subordinates was quite important for a company.
"Are you free tonight?" Richard suddenly asked.
Isabella paused slightly, then answered honestly, "Yes."
Having been a housewife for years, apart from her one friend Daphne, Isabella had almost no social circle of her own.
Daphne was also a working person. Although they were in the same city, they usually only chatted online and had time to meet on weekends.
"There's a business dinner tonight. I wonder if I have the honor of inviting you to attend as my companion?"
Hearing the invitation from the company's big boss, Isabella weighed her options and chose to accept.
But there was one thing she had to clarify with Richard in advance.
"Mr. Spencer, you'll prepare the dress, right?"
Seeing how serious she looked, Richard couldn't help but laugh.
"I'll have someone take you to the studio in a bit to pick out a dress and shoes."
Richard's statement was so casual that Isabella didn't realize the seriousness of the matter at all.
After Mike brought her to a styling studio, Isabella was completely transformed from head to toe.
The designer specifically chose a white gown that better suited Isabella's capable and refined temperament.
The mermaid-style gown perfectly outlined Isabella's graceful figure, with a slit on one side that didn't hinder movement.
Looking closely, the seemingly plain silk satin actually had subtle patterns, embroidered with beautiful designs.
Even Richard was slightly surprised when he first saw Isabella.
He had always known Isabella had a beautiful face, but he didn't know that when she dressed up seriously, she would have such an alluring charm.
Her features were like a painting, and every smile and frown seemed to tug at one's heartstrings.
When they arrived at the dinner venue, most of the guests had already arrived.
The door seemed to open specifically for them. The moment it opened, the light from outside fell on them, as if coating them with a halo.
"Who is that person?"
"That's Mr. Spencer from Infinity Ventures Corporation! The heir of Everbright Trust Bank. When he went out to start his business, everyone was skeptical, but the Infinity Ventures Corporation he founded is now a giant in the domestic new energy industry!"
This was what a true young talent looked like!
Isabella clearly heard someone exclaiming nearby.
She glanced sideways at Richard. His elegant and handsome face remained calm and composed, showing no pride from others' praise.
He was completely indifferent, as if he hadn't heard what they said at all.
"Mr. Montagu is so distinguished, and Mrs. Montagu is so beautiful too. They're truly a perfect match, made for each other!"
Laura was holding William's arm, smiling as she listened to others compliment her.
She had heard people praise her beauty since childhood.
What made her happiest now was that people finally considered her Mrs. Montagu!
And William didn't refute it either.
Did this mean she was one step closer to the center of power in the Montagu family?
When Richard and Isabella entered, they made quite a stir. People on William and Laura's side also looked over.
With just one glance, they found it hard to look away.
Isabella was like a beautiful white peacock, radiating dazzling brilliance.
Standing next to Richard, the two looked even more well-matched.
It was glaring and uncomfortable to watch.
The people who had been praising Laura opened their mouths slightly.
Their reactions made Laura feel extremely embarrassed.
Without asking, she knew that in their hearts, they definitely thought Isabella was superior.
Laura was very indignant.
Why did Isabella always show up at these critical moments to steal everyone's attention from her?
"It looks like that should be Mr. Spencer's girlfriend, right? She's really beautiful, like a movie star!"
"So beautiful, and she's not in the entertainment industry. What a loss for show business."
"Wake up, her boyfriend is Richard. With Infinity Ventures Corporation and Everbright Trust Bank behind her, she's an investor herself. Why would she need to demean herself by acting?"
The whispers around them made William's expression darken immediately.
What could be more humiliating than personally witnessing your wife attending a dinner with another man and having people mistake their relationship?
"Stop talking nonsense. Why do I feel like the woman next to Mr. Spencer looks a bit like Mr. Montagu's wife?"
"What are you talking about? Isn't Mr. Montagu's wife standing right next to him?"
"You haven't been in these circles long enough. When Mr. Montagu first got married, I saw Mrs. Montagu!"
Isabella had rarely attended important events with William. In the first six months after their marriage, she did attend a few dinners.
But later, after the child was born, Isabella devoted herself entirely to the family and never came out again.
Very few people knew Isabella was William's wife.
But today, there happened to be someone in the know present.
A piece of gossip gradually spread through their whispers.
The onlookers looked at these people with increasingly heated gazes, all anticipating a dramatic confrontation between the four.
Richard and Isabella walked over, unavoidably coming face to face with William and Laura.
The four people looked at each other, the atmosphere somewhat awkward.
Someone nearby came to greet Richard, and Isabella put on a generous smile, socializing with Richard.
"If you didn't know better, you'd think they were really a couple!" someone watching the drama remarked.
William's expression darkened even more.
Not only because his reputation was being damaged, but also because Isabella had just completely ignored him!
Laura keenly caught William's emotional change. She put away her own jealousy and instead said, intentionally or unintentionally,
"Isabella looks really beautiful today. The dress must have been chosen by Mr. Spencer, right? It suits her so well!"
