Everything would be alright
Everything would be alright
Ethan's POV
A few minutes ago
"Hello? Olivia, where is my son?"
I let out a breath I didn't even know I was holding as soon as Hannah gave us a signal that Olivia picked up the call.
Hannah's question came back to me after the phone rang three times.
'What if she doesn't pick?'
If Olivia really didn't pick up the call, I had no other idea what to do. Jake was one of the few people that was very important to me; I couldn't even imagine losing my nephew.
But involving the police was out of the question. Olivia wasn't someone ordinary and if she by any chance finds out, she would kill the kid without mercy, that's if she hasn't already.
All I wanted now was to just catch that bitch and make her pay for everything she had put both Hannah and Rachel through.
"Ana, I told you, didn't I? I told you I was going to get my way, yet you... You refused to listen to me. You even went ahead to betray me and tell Ethan about everything!"
That was why she was doing this? I shook my head in disgust.
Even if Hannah hadn't said anything, I would have found out sooner or later that she was the one behind it. And even if I didn't even find out, I would have never even looked at her twice.
The only woman who occupied my heart, the only woman I loved, was Rachel.
Speaking of Rachel, what was she doing?
I looked up at the blonde-haired woman who was staring at the door so keenly.
After she found out a few hours ago that I
Just the look she gave me after finding out that I knew about Olivia was heartwrenching and since then, she hadn't looked me in the eyes again.
But she knew too.
Why and how did she even know that I didn't know, but all I knew was that she knew about everything and was mad at me for not telling her.
How could I even tell her something like that?
'Hey Rachel, my sister's best friend is the person who killed our worst enemy, and now she's after you too just because she claims she loves me.'
How believable does that sound? I rolled my eyes at my sarcastic inner remark.
"Is it possible that this study isn't entirely soundproof?" Rachel's question snapped me out of my thoughts and I looked back towards her.
Why was she whispering? My study was completely soundproof, so it was safe in here, or wasn't it?
"Why are you whispering?" Marina asked exactly the question in my mind, also in a whisper.
I was still thinking about it, then suddenly, the last few words I heard Olivia say before spacing out came back to me.
'You even went ahead to betray me and tell Ethan about everything.'
How did she know that I know?
I had listened to Victoria's advice and hadn't done anything suspicious for the past two days, so it was impossible for Olivia to know that I knew unless she had an inner man or woman.
Rachel pulled her gaze from the door and towards my sister, gesturing her to keep talking.
To my surprise, Hannah, who hadn't been on good terms with Rachel, agreed.
"Olivia, please, Jake has nothing to do with this; please let him go. Just take Rachel instead; she's the one you really want, right?" Hannah continued acting along. I doubt it was acting, though; she would have highly preferred it if it was Rachel and not her son in Olivia's custody.
Rachel moved closer and closer to the door until she suddenly pushed it open, and a feminine body fell forward.
Someone was actually listening! Who dares to do that?!
I felt a sudden surge of rage flow through me as I saw the face of the lady.
She was one of the maids under Victoria's care.
How could something like this happen? Does that mean that Olivia had an eye and ear in my house all along?
That explains a lot. How she always knew where I was, and how she knew what was happening.
How and why would a maid choose to betray me like that?
My eyes narrowed at the maid, but just before I could do anything, she began to run.
Rachel immediately chased after her, and I wanted to do so as well, but Mark held me back.
" I need you here, bro. " He said in a low tone so Olivia, who was still on the phone with Hannah, wouldn't hear him.
" Rachel can handle it ". Marina mouthed with a small nod.
' I hope so '. I thought looking towards the computer where Mark was actively trying to track Olivia's location but was getting no luck.
It's either her phone was deeply encrypted, or she was in a secured location.
" For fuck sake Olivia, don't you dare hurt my son!" Hannah yelled into the phone. I looked towards her and saw that she was on the verge of tears.
What was Olivia saying to her?
Marina, who was right behind her, looked as if she was about to murder someone as she also glared at the phone in Hannah's hands.
My brows knitted together, and then I listened carefully to hear what Olivia was saying.
" Why wouldn't I dare? Since you've told Ethan everything already, I know I don't have a chance. You know how much I love your brother; I would die without him, yet you and Rachel took him away from me, so that's what would happen: I'll die. But before I die, I'll make sure to make your life a living hell by killing your son "
" And then Rachel... You better tell that bitch that I'm coming for her. I just want her to see how I'll mess up little Jake here first and then I'll focus on her, right Jakie?"
The next thing I heard was Jake's voice, he was... He was crying.
"Jake? Oh, baby?" Hannah almost cried after she heard Jake's voice.
I gritted my teeth, clenching my fist tightly.
I just felt so useless right now.
What was the use of having all of this wealth and power if I couldn't protect the ones I love?
"Are you alright?"
"Mommy." Jake cried from the phone. He sounded so frightened and shaken up.
That boy was hard to break and for him to sound this broken, Olivia really must have done something to him.
Hannah held the phone even tighter in her hands, and tears streamed down her face. "My baby, please hang in there. E... Everything would be alright."
Marina bit her lips, looking away and towards Mark, who was looking frustrated about not being able to track Olivia.
Then suddenly, my heart began to ache; it was as if someone was stabbing the hell out of it.
Rachel!
I bolted up and out of the study.
Rachel had chased that maid almost ten minutes ago, yet she wasn't back; what if something bad had happened to her? Or what if she was on her way to Olivia's place right now, possibly unconscious or not?
The more suggestions my mind brought, the more I felt it impossible to breathe and the faster I ran across the halls and down the stairs.
I was threatened to yell her name but what if she was already taken? If I call out her name it would only make the perpetrator go into hiding with her.
They could be anywhere by now? I thought frantically as I searched around.
Rachel, please hang on...
I rushed towards the front exit, and there I saw them; the maid was on top of Rachel and was about to deliver her a heavy punch.
With an inhumane speed, I rushed towards them and knocked the maid out with one punch, and she fell to the floor.
I then looked down at Rachel. She had her eyes shut tightly, and her hair was terribly disheveled. Thankfully, she wasn't wearing any make-up. If not, they would have been smudged badly by now.
Despite her untidy appearance, she still looked very beautiful.
I gently cupped her face with my hands and brought her head up.
"Rachel, oh Rachel, are you alright?" I whispered softly to her.
Her eyes opened immediately, and she gazed up at me. She looked towards the unconscious maid before looking back at me again.
I nodded at her unasked question, then leaned down slowly to cover my lips with her's when she did something unexpected, or better yet, expected since she was still very much angry with me.
She pushed me off her and stood up, her body trembling slightly in pain.
"Let me help..." She brushed off my hands and began walking back up the stairs.
Now what?
