That's what I'm betting on
Rachel's POV
I blinked twice, sitting upright.
"It's today?" I asked and Marina nodded, at least it felt like she did. Despite the fact that we were on the phone I felt like I could see her.
I had totally forgotten.
She did mention something about meeting her parents again after Mark and Ethan said something to them.
Talking of parents, I had dinner with mine later this evening.
" So how is it going? " I asked at first, but judging from Marina's expression, it was not going well. Or had she not even seen them?
" Have you and your parents talked? Or seen each other?" I asked cautiously, staring straight at my phone in order to catch even the slightest change of expression on Marina's face.
" You haven't seen them have you?" I asked again since Marina's silence already answered the first question for me.
Marina nodded biting down on her lower lips. " Maybe if they had come out to welcome me, I wouldn't be having second thoughts right now about meeting them. "
What?
They didn't even come out to see her?
Did they even want to see her? Or was it because Ethan and Mark asked? I wondered before letting out a sigh.
I could feel the sadness emanating from her even through the phone. She was disappointed as well as sad that her parents didn't even want to welcome her, and if they did, they sure as hell didn't know the right way to show it.
"It's their fault if they don't want a daughter like you. You're the best, and they are the ones losing," I said seriously, and Marina smiled bitterly.
" I know. " She said in a bitter voice but with a hint of self-pride, then the next second, the pride disappeared, and only the bitterness and sadness remained. " What I don't know is why they don't want to see me "
My heart ached to hear her talk like that.
She was always the spirited and optimistic one between us, yet those parents of hers had managed to curl her spirit in just a few hours, and she hadn't even met them yet!
" It's too early for us to conclude that yet... " I lied biting my lips.
They most definitely don't want to see her, but I couldn't tell her that. She needed comfort, not the truth right now.
Why was the world always hard for good people?
Marina, more than anyone, deserved a parent's love, her parent's love.
At such a young age of 26, she had managed to rise to the peak of her career, and in just a few more months or years, give or take, she would no longer be just an assistant director, but a director and even possibly a producer.
If her parents couldn't still see the great person she would become in the near future, then they were truly blind. Not to mention the fact that she had an extremely wealthy and affluent man like Mark who was madly in love with her.
I couldn't help but let out a helpless sigh. But right then, a suggestion popped into my head, but I wasn't sure whether to say it or not.
"I know I'm not the right person to say this, but I have a suggestion". I said breaking the long minutes of silence between the both of us. "Yes, you are definitely not the right person to give a suggestion." Marina affirmed playfully.
I rolled my eyes at her before I heard her say, " What is it?".
"What I'm thinking is that maybe you should hold up your plans on visiting... In your case, seeing, your parents up until everything with Olivia is cleared up."
" I know it's not your fight, but I wish to be there with you, to be there for you just the same way you were there for me when I met up with mine. "
Marina went silent on the other side of the phone, she was definitely contemplating my suggestion.
I really did want to be by her side, but Olivia... The fear of what that bitch could and would do to me once I step out of this house held me back in.
"Did you hear me mention that I'm parked right in front of the mansion?" Marina turned the phone around so I could see the gigantic mansion not so far from where she was.
"Since you folks haven't seen you yet, you can just turn around. Look, Marina, it's just a suggestion, as you said to me, no matter which way and whatever you choose to do, I'm with you".
Marina's face widened as she brought a hand to her chest. " That felt really nice to hear from you ". She cooed. I would have rolled my eyes at her, but remembering her situation, I chose to just shake my head instead.
Marina batted her lashes and used her hands to wipe her fake tears before pouting "I know you've always loved me "
"Me? Pssh". I denied it instantly. This time, I couldn't resist rolling my eyes. " I only said that because I was alone and bored watching a movie alone in this huge house."
I was expecting her to giggle, but instead, I was met with her serious tone.
"Did you just say you're alone?"
"Yeah? " I brought the phone down from my ears and raised a brow at it before returning it back. " I remember mentioning a few minutes ago that Ethan went out for an urgent business trip "
"I wasn't listening." She said hurriedly. "You can't be let alone at a time like this, what about Hannah and Jake? " She asked anxiously.
I was surprised at her anxious tone but answered anyway. "Both of them also went out. Hannah took Jake out to check out a new audition he got, but they would be coming back soon. Why do you sound so worried?"
"No, the real question is why aren't you?" Marina refuted. " It's not safe being alone in the house at the moment and you know that more than anyone else. What if Olivia just suddenly shows up there? What would you do?"
Oh, that's why she was worried.
A side of my lip hooked up in a smirk. "That's what I'm counting on," I whispered.
It seemed like Marina heard it because her eyes immediately widened. "W... What do you mean by that? Don't tell me you want to do anything stupid or that you already are," she said in panic.
I smiled again as I noticed the sound of a car door opening.
Mark was probably back.
"Our boyfriend is here, I meant your boyfriend... so I guess I got to go before you to feed me dog food. "
"Rachel... "
" Bye". Before Marina could finish her words, I ended the call. There was nothing more to say; I couldn't just tell her my plan, she would try her best to stop it.
There was no way I was letting Olivia get away with threatening both my life and Ethan's, so I had to catch her and make her face justice.
To catch someone like Olivia, I needed a huge bait, something she would easily fall for, and what better bait would there be than her worst enemy, me?
I had decided to do this after much contemplation. It was even my chance Ethan got an urgent business call because I was already planning on sending him away somehow.
Immediately he left, I had gone over to the gate and given the men there a few hours off.
Ethan wouldn't be back for a few hours, so that was as much as I could give them so as not to arouse any suspicion from Ethan, especially if Olivia didn't come around. But I suspected she would since the time she gave me was almost over.
I had prepared a trap for her; the only thing left was for her to fall into it.
Apart from Lana, no one has troubled me as much as Olivia has; Lana had it easy dying because if all worked according to my plan, Olivia punishment would be worse than death.
I had no straight idea how I was going to make her pay for all the traumatic moments she had It was true; trust me, there have been a lot. But all I knew was that she had to pay... and I was going to make it here.
"Come get me bitch". I smirked before shoving my hands into the bag of chips again.
