Why him

Why him
Mira sat across from Lisa in the small restaurant she had chosen they go to. Lisa watched her, wondering where to start from.
Mira’s phone rang, and a look of relief swept across her face when she realized it was Victoria. "I have to take this call. It's Victoria, Hope you don't mind?" She said to Lisa, who shrugged indifferently as she ate from her bowl of steamed noodles with beef and vegetables.
"Where have you been? Why weren't you taking your calls?" Mira asked in a concerned voice. She felt like it had been forever since she heard from her Best friend,
"You know how work can be sometimes. I was really busy, I just got home," Victoria said as she took off the heels she had been wearing. She had just gotten home and was exhausted, but she needed to talk to Mira.
"Yea, I can relate. Hope you're fine, though?" Mira asked in a low voice.
"Yes, where are you? I can hear sounds in the background. I want to come over. We need to talk," Victoria said as she changed her outfit into something ordinary.
"I'm hanging out with a friend. You should meet her."
She placed a hand over her phone and whispered to Lisa, "Do you mind?
Victoria is coming over."
"That's ok with me," Lisa said with a smile. This was going better than she had imagined. At least now she could finally get to see the scheming bitch.
"You can come over. I'll text you the location, Mira said, wanting to drop the call immediately.
"Hold on, Mira, I have to discuss important issues with you; I'm not sure that should be done in the presence of a stranger," Victoria said, sounding nervous,
"You have nothing to worry about, just come over and get to know her first. We can talk about whatever else it is after we leave here," Mira said, trying to convince Victoria as she ended the call.
She had missed Victoria’s company so much, and she knew Victoria could make things lively. She wanted Victoria to get along well with Lisa.
Lisa pretended she wasn't listening to the conversation and wondered what was so important they wanted to discuss when she left. She needed to hear whatever they planned on discussing as she was sure it involved Tyler and Adrian.
She decided it was time to do what Tyler had asked her to do. She needed to start building confidence with Mira.
"Have you ever been to California?" She asked randomly, wanting to initiate the conversation.
"Nope, But I heard and read a lot about it.
Was that where you moved from?" Mira asked curiously,
"Yea, I had this charming penthouse in California, I kinda miss it and my friends there," She said with a gloomy expression.
"What about your boyfriend? You don't miss him, or you didn't have one there? If you don't mind me asking," Mira asked, allowing her curiosity to get the best of her.
Lisa smiled, she had wanted Mira to fall into her trap, and it had worked perfectly. "I don't mind at all. you're my friend, and I should be able to confide in you, right?" Lisa asked with a smile.
"I was too focused on my work to get involved with any. But there's this Korean guy I kinda fancy though. He's so hot," Lisa said with glittering eyes as she thought of Victoria , even though she intended to mention Tyler’s name.
"Really? He must be a celebrity or something, I guess," Mira asked excitedly.
"Not exactly, but he's rich though. Want to see his picture?" Lisa asked as she scrolled through her phone for Tyler’s picture,
"Here it is," She said, handing the phone to Mira  as her eyes glittered, Mira looked at the screen as her heartbeat quickened... She swallowed the thick lump of jealousy stuck in her throat, making her choke and her eyes water.
"Sorry, I'm so sorry. Are you okay?" Lisa asked as she stood up and patted Mira’s back. "I guess he's so cute you had to choke; he had that effect on me too," She said, trying hard not to giggle.
Mira didn't know what to say. Of all people for Lisa to have a crush on in this planet, why did it have to be Tyler?
Here she was, trying to get over him, and his picture was in her face.
Lisa smiled at Mira’s speechlessness; she could tell Mira liked Tyler.
"Isn't he cute? And trust me, I heard he's got a great personality too," Lisa cooed lovingly, making Mira snort. Great personality, my foot. Was it the same Tyler she had spent a week with and almost wanted to strangle or another Tyler?
"Don't be too quick to believe everything you hear about people though, or else you may be disappointed," Mira said, trying hard to push off the jealousy that enveloped her.
This was enough for today; Tyler would be over the moon when he heard of Mira’s jealous reaction.
"Who is going to be disappointed?"
Victoria asked as she joined them. Guilt made her feel like she was the one they were discussing.
"It's nothing. Hello, I'm Lisa. I guess you're Victoria, Mira’s best friend," She said with an easy smile; she didn't want Victoria o have any clue about her discussion with Mira. She would act like a friend until she could prove that Victoria as a scheming bitch.
Victoria looked at her with curiosity as she sat down. She liked the girl; how had Mira  gotten to know such an impressive personality?
"Yes, I'm Victoria. You're really beautiful," Victoria aid in awe as she took note of Lisa's stylish dress.
Lisa would have felt flattered or even liked her if she wasn't so suspicious of her, So she said a simple "Thank you" and invited the waiter to take Victoria’s order.
Lisa looked at Victoria as she ate and laughed while she talked to Mira, "I'm curious about something though since I've never really had a best friend... Have you both never liked the same guy? Or fought over a guy before?" Lisa asked with her eyes fixed on Victoria.
Victoria froze with the spoon halfway into her mouth. Why was she asking such a question? Did she know something? Her heart thumped loudly as she raised her eyes to look at Lisa.
Mira giggled good-naturedly at the question. "That's ridiculous. Neither of us would do something of that nature. I'm sure if we ever found ourselves in such a situation, we would let the guy go," Mira said, with so much confidence that Lisa felt like hitting her head with the bowl.
Mira patted Victoria’s hand trustingly.
"Thanks for being such a good friend, Victoria. We keep hearing stories about girls backstabbing their friends, but you've  remained so true to our friendship," Mira said, looking at Victoria with teary eyes.
Victoria swallowed nervously and smiled,
"Thanks for being a good friend too. Your friendship means so much to me," Victoria said and turned to Lisa. "I hope we can be good friends too?" She inquired.
"I hope so too," Lisa said with a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes. I can never be friends with a pretender, She said to herself.
Girls like Victoria were capable of murder, and she made it her life's work to keep them at arm's length.
Soon Victoria and Mira started talking about something she didn't know, she knew it was time to leave so the two of them really could talk about whatever it was they couldn't say in her presence, but she couldn't leave them without knowing the details of whatever they were going to discuss.
She picked up her phone and checked the time; it was just 8 pm. She knew exactly what she was going to do. Mira was sitting closer to her than Victoria was, so her handbag was closer.
Lisa pretended to stretch and pushed Mira’s handbag on the floor, causing the contents to spill on the ground. "How clumsy of me; I'm so sorry," She said as she bent down to pick it up.
She slipped her phone inside Mira’s bag along with the other contents and placed it back on the table.
"It's been a long day, ladies. I'll leave you two best friends to catch up on each other's lives. It's been fun hanging out with you both. I'll go sort out the bills and be on my way," Lisa said amidst their polite protest and left them with a smile.
Tyler would be very proud of her when he found out what she had done, and that was all the reward that she needed.
