Chapter 85 The Contingency

Chapter 85 The Contingency
The package arrived at the brownstone at 4 AM.

FBI agents intercepted it before it reached the door. The Bomb squad, Hazmat and Two hours of controlled detonation protocols before they determined it was safe to open.

Inside was a USB drive and a handwritten note.

For Aiden and Ariella. From someone who wants the truth.

Agent Chen brought it to them at sunrise. “We’ve scanned it. No viruses, No malware, it's Just files. A lot of files.”

“From who?” Aiden asked.

“We don’t know. The package was dropped at a post office in Queens, was payed for in Cash, No cameras caught the sender.”

Ariella took the USB drive. It was warm, like someone had been holding it. “What kind of files?”

“Financial records, Communications, and Videos.” Marcus hesitated. “And a message. Encrypted and Addressed to you both personally.”

They plugged it into a laptop in the FBI’s secure room. Elena was asleep upstairs, protected by three agents who Ariella was pretty sure never actually slept.

The encrypted message loaded, it was a  Text only, no attachment, No audio.

You think you won, You haven’t. Victoria was never the top of the pyramid. She was middle management. The real power is still hidden, Still operating, Still deciding who lives and who dies.

I’m sending you this because I’m tired. Tired of cleaning up bodies, Tired of watching innocent people die for asking questions, and Tired of protecting monsters.

The files on this drive will show you the truth About who really runs the network,  About what they’ve done and About what they’re planning to do to you.

You have 72 hours before they activate Protocol Omega. After that, you, your daughter, and everyone you love will be erased. Not killed, Erased. No bodies, No evidence, Just gone.

I can’t stop them, But I can give you a chance so Use it wisely.

…A Friend You Never Knew You Had

“Protocol Omega?” Ariella breathed.

Marcus was already typing, “Searching our databases yet found Nothing. If this exists, it’s not in any intelligence file we have access to.”

Aiden opened the first folder, Financial records, Shell companies, and Transactions dating back forty years.

“This isn’t just Victoria’s network,” he said slowly. “This is…Jesus, this goes up. Way up. Federal judges, Senators, CEOs of Fortune 500 companies.”

“It’s fake,” Marcus said immediately. “Has to be. This level of conspiracy…”

“Look at the signatures.” Aiden pulled up a scanned document. “That’s a Supreme Court justice. And that’s…that’s the Secretary of the Treasury.”

“Could be forgeries….”

“Could be real.” Ariella opened another folder with Videos, Dozens of them.

She clicked one at random.

A conference room, Expensive, Private with Fifteen people around a table. All faces she recognized from news broadcasts and magazine covers.

Victoria Frost was there,  Younger. Maybe ten years ago.

A man at the head of the table with silver hair, distinguished, familiar in a way that made Ariella’s skin crawl was speaking “The Hayes boy is a problem, He saw the transfers and could have Talked to someone so We need containment.”

“I’ll handle it,” Victoria said calmly.

“Make it look accidental, The family can’t suspect foul play.”

“Understood.”

The video ended.

Ariella couldn’t breathe, “That was Senator Morrison, The one who chairs the Finance Committee. He ordered…he ordered Ethan’s death.”

“This can’t be real,” Marcus said, but his voice was shaking. “If this is real, we’re talking about…about a conspiracy at the highest levels of government…”

“Watch the next one,” Aiden said.

Different room, Same people, Including Senator Morrison and two other faces Ariella recognized: a tech billionaire and a former Vice President.

“The Frost girl is getting too close,” the Vice President said. “Catherine, She’s filed FOIA requests and has Been meeting with that journalist…what’s her name…”

“Reeves,” Victoria supplied. “Jessica Reeves.”

“We need to shut this down, Permanently.”

“Accident or suicide?” Victoria asked, like she was discussing dinner plans.

“Accident, Less questions, Make it clean.”

Fifty thousand dollars changed hands on camera.

The video ended.

“They ordered Catherine’s murder,” Aiden said hollowly. “A sitting Vice President ordered my mother’s death.”

“Former Vice President,” Marcus corrected automatically. Then: “God, If this goes public…”

“It has to go public,” Ariella said.

“We need to verify…”

“We don’t have time! They said seventy-two hours before Protocol Omega, Before they erase us.” She grabbed Marcus’s arm. “What does that mean? How do you erase people?”

“Witness protection programs, Federal databases. If someone high enough in government wants you disappeared…” He stopped. “They can do it. New identities, Relocation Or…”

“Or killed and listed as relocated,” Aiden finished. “That’s what this is. They’ll make it look like we entered witness protection. But we’ll actually be dead.”

“We need to go to the press,” Ariella said. “Right now. Release everything…”

“And if these files are fake? Planted to discredit us? Victoria’s in custody but she still has resources, This could be a trap to make us look insane.”

“Or it could be real and we’re wasting time arguing!”

Elena cried from upstairs. The sound cut through the tension like a knife.

Ariella stood. “I’m getting our daughter. We’re leaving, Tonight. We’re not waiting around to be erased.”

“And going where?” Marcus demanded. “If this network is real, they have resources everywhere. CIA,  FBI, Interpol. You can’t hide from them.”

“Then we don’t hide,  We go reallyloud, and release everything, Every file, Every video. We blow this wide open before they can stop us.”

“That’s suicide…”

“Staying here is suicide!” Ariella’s voice broke. “They killed my brother. Aiden’s mother. Seventeen other people. They’re not going to stop. They’re never going to stop unless we make them.”
