Chapter 36 Block him!
Chapter 36 Block him!
Grace
I spent the whole day in bed, tossing from side to side, deep in thoughts and unable to sleep, not even a wink. Abby was by my side through it all though, and she came with no drama at all. She would just check up on me and sometimes, sleep by me to keep my company.
“Okay, that’s it! We are going out!” She let out at a point.
“No, I didn’t feel like going anywhere.” I whined and she scoffed at me.
“Really bold of you to even think you’ve got any choice in this. We are going out and that’s final!” She said firmly and before j could say another word, she dragged me out of bed.
I wanted to prove stubborn and pull myself back but I was already weak from all the deep thoughts and cries. She pulled me easily and before I knew what was going on, I was already all dressed up and ready to leave.
“Don’t worry, I’m not taking you somewhere disturbing. I just want you out of the house before you cry yourself into oblivion.” She said to me as she helped me into the car.
She got in too and we kept driving until she pulled up at the cinema. I chuckled when I saw it and she did too.
“Really? You think this is what I need right now? Okay then. Let’s see what they’ve got.” I retorted and she rolled her eyes playfully.
We got in, got our tickets and popcorn before heading in. Just before we entered and it all got dark, Abby turned to me and smiled.
“What? Afraid I’d run away?” I quizzed.
“That guy likes you, he was literally stunned by you but you paid him no attention at all.” She exclaimed and I rolled my eyes.
“Ohh please, that’s the last thing I want right now. A man, really? Like you don’t know the mess that got me in!” I let out and she shrugged.
“Arggg… that’s water under the bridge. That just shows that the Hayes brothers are messed up. It doesn’t mean you give up on love or other men.” She replied.
“I have no interest in what you’re saying right now so I’m just going to stop listening and responding now.” I chimed in ahd sgd gently smacked me.
We found our seats and started the movie. It was an animation and a funny one at that. I laughed all through the whole movie and by the time it was over, I felt much better.
“Thank you so much, Abby, I feel so relieved.” I said slowly.
“I know right, what would you do without me? Absolutely nothing!” She yelled and we burst into laughter.
We went out and the ticket guy was right there, it seemed like he knew when we would be out and was waiting for us. He ran towards us immediately before I could get away.
“Hey, Grace, I’m so sorry for doing this. I promise you that’s not the way I am. I just don’t want to miss this opportunity. Would you like to see another movie with me? Not today obviously because I can see you’re rather busy. I just wanted to ask you and we can agree on a date later on.” He said while I took another second to process all he said.
“Uhmm,” that was what I could finally say.
“I’m sorry but I can’t. I’m not in the right place for that ahd I wouldn’t want to waste your time. Maybe some other time when I’m all good, you can ask me and I’d not hesitate.” I explained and he nodded.
“That’s okay. Enjoy the rest of the day, I hope you enjoyed the movie too?” He replied.
“Yes, we did. Thank you.” Abby jumped in and then held my hand while we walked out.
“I know, I know, I shouldn’t have turned him down.” I let out before she could say it.
“What? You did the right thing. I was only pulling your legs earlier. You don’t have to see any man till you’re ready. Take all the time in the world please. You have me right here with you all the way.” She assured me and I couldn’t resist hugging her.
She held me tightly till I was ready to let go and we then got in the car.
“You know I keep thinking I’m a fool. I’ve tried to shake off the feeling but I just can’t. How could I have not seen through their plans? Not once did I ever suspect a thing! What does that make me, Abby?” I lashed out while she gently placed her hand over mine.
“A woman with a kind heart. You judged everything with your kind heart and since you’ve only got good in you, you could only see the good in them too. If anyone should be feeling bad, it’s definitely not you, Grace. You’re innocent in all this so stop beating yourself up over nothing. Stop it, babe. I don’t like seeing like this. It breaks my heart so much.” She begged and I nodded.
She started the car and drove us back home. She wanted us to go to other places for more fun but I wasn’t in the mood. I’ve had enough with the movie and just wanted to get home as soon as possible.
“Your mom is blowing up my phone. You need to speak to him at this point.” Abby said as she walked into the room while I was crawled up in bed.
I still didn’t want to but I know he wouldn’t stop calling and I didn’t want him disturbing Abby.
“Please come home!” My dad let out the second I answered the phone.
“No, dad! I’m not coming. Stop calling please!” I said and then hung up immediately.
“If he calls back, block him!” I said to Abby firmly and she chuckled.
“I’m being serious right now. Block him!” I repeated.
