Chapter 31 I’ll take it up from here
Theo
“We can’t do this anymore, Grace. This has to stop!”
I almost didn’t send the text message but I knew I had to do so after struggling with the thought for a while, I hit the send button. I quickly dropped my phone, knowing Grace would want to know why and I wasn’t ready for that.
I panicked when she sneaked into the room a while ago, not knowing Evelyn was in here with me. A lot could have happened and I can’t just imagine his badly Evelyn would have escalated the whole thing. She doesn’t like me one bit and only trying to put up with me. She even came to ask when I’d be going back. She didn’t ask in a harsh tone but I could read through her expression that she desperately wanted me out of her hair.
If Grace had walked in and stripped naked like she usually does, I can’t even imagine what would be happening right now.
That was why I made up my mind to end things with her, atleast for now, until I figure things out.
I slowly drifted back into my thoughts but was soon pulled back by Grace. I heard the door open and just knew she was the one.
“I got your text, what does it mean?” She asked with a soft expression which actually surprised me because I was expecting a fight from her.
“You seem relaxed and that’s surprising,” I teased, trying to lighten the mood but her expression didn’t change. That was when I realized she was mad at me but only trying to control herself.
“Come here,” I chimed in and then pulled her to sit beside me.
“You also saw what played out a while ago, right? I’m sure you know that could have ended badly and I don’t want that for either of us. What we have between us really risky and you don’t even want to know what Evelyn would do to you?” I explained to her but she didn’t seem to grasp the full extent of what I was saying.
“I get you perfectly, yeah? But Evelyn, she’s going to be hurt, definitely but I don’t think she’s the type to hurt anyone.” She chimed in and I burst into laughter.
“Trust me, she’s not who you think she is but there’s no point trying to explain that to you. It’s better not to ever know. And that’s brings us back to the text. We have to stop this, Grace. We can’t go on, at least for now.” I retorted.
“What does that mean? You’ve got any plans that I don’t know about?” She asked desperately.
“Well, I’ve got something in mind and I hope it works.”
“Want to tell me about it?” She pressed and I contemplated for a long second before I finally decided to let her in on it.
“Okay… in cases where families arrange their children’s marriages, there’s definitely a catch attached. It’s either for money, leverage or friendship. I plan to find out which one it is in your case, and from there I can come up with a plan to get you out of the arrangement. That’s the only way we can be together in peace. I don’t intend to put you in harm’s just because I want you.” I explained and I saw the way her eyes lit up. She definitely felt loved and I liked that she did because I really do love her.
“Thank you so much.” She muttered under her breath while I pulled her in for a hug.
“You have to leave now.” I whispered but she hung on to me even more and I let her be.
“You really need to leave now.” I said again again after a minute.
She took a deep breath and then finally released me. I placed a deep kiss on her lips and smiled at her.
“I’m still here, I’m not going nowhere, trust me.” I assured her and she nodded.
She stood up and I watched her walk away. She checked the hallway carefully before finally leaving. I took a deep sigh once the door clicked shut and then sunk into the bed.
I’ve got to get to work as soon as possible. With their wedding coming up soon, it’s either I get my hands on some real information or I lose Grace.
“That’s never happening,” I muttered under my breath as I grabbed my phone then and started making calls…
I didn’t even realize the day had gone by so fast until my phone started ringing and I saw the caller.
It was my private investigator. I had called him earlier and asked him to look into Grace’s family and their relationship with mine. He had promised to call back in six hours and he was right on time.
“Right on time as always!” I said over the phone while he went on to drop the bombshell.
“Are you sure you got the right info?” I asked in shock as I was still processing the whole thing.
I didn’t want to believe that my dad and Matt were capable of such evil.
“You know I don’t give false info. It’s as reall as it gets. I did my thorough research.” He said with much confidence and I didn’t even doubt him at all. He has never failed me.
“Thank you, D. I will take it up from here. I just sent your money, it should hit your account in a second.” I simply said and hung up…
