Chapter 530 Will Mom Forget About Us?

Aaron shook his head and spoke like an adult. "Relationships are so unpredictable."

Freya took a sip of the warm water to moisturize her chapped lips. "Who knows? Perhaps, this is precisely what their relationship needs to improve."

"Huh?" Aaron obviously did not understand her.

Life was fair. Aaron was gifted with an extremely high IQ, but he lacked in EQ.

Freya did not explain. She asked, "Where's Layla? Has she left yet?"

Aaron nodded. "Yes. She left not long ago. Landen and Wilson left with her too. They said goodbye to Daddy just about half an hour ago."

"Oh," Freya replied. "The next time we see her, she will be a new Layla! She will laugh happily and have a carefree life without the trauma from that relationship. That'll be great!"

She smiled broadly. "Landen is not that bad after all."

Aaron replied, "I only feel that Nessie is quite pitiful."

Freya had been too focused on Layla and had forgotten about Nessie. The smile on her face slowly faded.

"Ma'am, my sister and I, and the little brother or little sister in your stomach, are really lucky," said Aaron while raising his head to look at Freya.

With a serious and grateful look, he added, "Thank you, Mommy and Daddy."

Freya flicked Aaron's forehead lightly. "I'm glad you know that. Don't do dangerous things anymore in the future."

"I got it. I'm going to ask Hope to wake up now." Aaron stuck out his tongue and made a silly face.

Freya's gaze followed Aaron until he entered Hope's room.

Aaron had evidently matured after the incident.

He had grown into a better boy with more empathy and broader analytical skills.

However, children should not be the only concern of parents.

Parents need to consider their own happiness and live for themselves too.

Meanwhile, on the first floor of the Shillings' residence, Layla walked directly past Landen without an acknowledgment. She crossed the long corridor, stopped in front of a door, and knocked calmly.

Someone responded from inside of the room, "Ms. Stone, please come in."

Layla nodded lightly and entered the room.

Standing nearby, Landen's Adam's apple repeatedly bobbed as he swallowed.

If it weren't for his hands pressing against the wall for support, he probably would've fallen.

Landen's gaze never strayed as he watched Layla enter the room and shut its door.

His mouth opened with a strong urge to stop her, but no words came out of his throat.

Landen smiled gently, unaware that his face was full of tears. "Daddy," someone called out in monotone.

He lowered his head and saw Nessie standing there with a tissue in her hand.

She handed the tissue to him, signaling for him to wipe his tears.

Landen smiled as he took the tissue from Nessie, pretending as if everything was all right.

After a long silence, Nessie finally asked, "Will Mom forget about us?"

...

Sadness was hidden in her large, watery eyes.

Landen was filled with guilt from the bottom of his heart. All those years, he had always thought about revenge and saving the victims. However, in turn, he had forgotten about the most important people around him and failed to treat his family right.

He did not give Layla a happy relationship nor provide Nessie with a happy childhood.

Landen's heart pained as if he was being stabbed with a knife.

"No. She will not forget about you. She will always remember that you're her most precious baby," said Landen.

Nessie's clenched fists loosened slightly. She asked further, "What about you? Will she forget about you?"

Landen did not answer. He squatted down and wiped off the teardrops at the corners of Nessie's eyes. "You have to stay by your mom's side and don't make her angry. Do you understand?"

Nessie nodded in agreement. She was a sensible and composed child.

However, that was only what she chose to show. She turned aside and looked away from her father, afraid that the resentment in her eyes would hurt her scarred father even more.

Nessie stared at the door that Layla was in.

After a short contemplation, she said, "I really envy Hope and Aaron. They are so happy."

She continued, "Actually, I don't need you to be so sweet with Mom, like Freya and Declan. My only wish is that you and Mom will stay together, so I can at least have a family too."

Hearing that, Landen's heart was in so much pain that he was struggling to breathe. He said with great difficulty, "I'm sorry, it's all my fault. Now that things have turned into this state, I can't lock her up anymore."

"I know. I also want Mom to fly freely. I was merely talking about my dream." Nessie walked away with her head lowered.

It was then Landen realized those were his daughter's words of revenge.

Although Nessie did not say it out loud, Landen knew what she was thinking. She was trying to tell Landen that he cared for other children more than his own child.

"You can't have it both ways," Wilson, who was hiding in the dark, said silently. He sighed, shrugged, and strode away to coax the aloof little princess.

Wilson scratched his head as he walked upstairs. "Why do I have to coax the

children all day long? After coaxing the little prince, now it's the princess. Damn it. Am I a nanny?"

After half an hour, the closed door on the first floor opened up slowly, and Layla emerged from the room.

She walked past Landen calmly and ignored him as usual.

Landen turned his head, his gaze following Layla.

Seeing that she was taking Nessie's hand and was about to leave, he hurried his pace and watched silently as the car they boarded drove away.

"Mr. Shilling." The man who hypnotized Layla walked to Landen's side to report his duty.

Landen shifted his gaze away and asked in a hoarse voice, "Was everything done according to my request?"

The man nodded. "Yes. In Ms. Layla's memory, she is a widow and is raising her daughter alone. Moreover, she had no feelings toward her dead husband. Thus, there'll be no misery or sorrow."
