Chapter 46
Chapter 46
Elisa’s POV
My body vibrated seeing her coming towards us. This is a Chapel, doesn’t it have any power to protect me from her evil power? I got to question myself but then I realized that it’s my faith which will do the work, not the building.
I grabbed Rhys so firmly, he looked unbothered such that I lifted my eyes to him.
“Don’t worry about her, with me by your side, her powers will seize to work and soon she will be going only physical in her attacks.”
My lips parted wide, I was close to losing my sense of breath. But when I turned, he was fading.
At first, I thought my tears blurred my sight. But then I saw it, his body was dissolving into the dim light of the chapel.
“Ahh—“ I gaped. “What’s really going on?” I had to ask. Just when Sylvia is stepping inside is when he’s fading. This had to be the greatest disappointment of my life although I wasn’t talking about the end.
“Rhys,” I whispered. My voice cracked. “No, don’t—”
I wanted to stop him but it was too late. His physical body which he must have borrowed before emerging was fading off. My eyes switched between Roman and Sylvia and the place where Rhys had stood.
I could still feel his heavy presence, just that I couldn’t see him.
My wolf and heart leapt with shock, we never expected this to happen. I thought Rhys was real.
He gave me a faint smile, so I thought I watched this for real. “I told you,” he said. His words uttered. “This body was never mine to keep but I’m always watching over you, you can be assured of that.”
“No!” I cried. My knees almost gave way, but I pushed forward. I reached out, my hands shaking. My fingers met nothing but air. He was no longer solid. My hands slipped through him.
Rhys’ eyes glowed faintly, the remnants of him left. He looked at me with the same love I remembered, the same love I had once sworn to keep forever years ago. That bond pulled tight, aching, hurting me. It now seemed like many years passed.
Roman stepped beside me, his protective aura dripping on me. He didn’t see what I saw. He just knew his deceased brother just disappeared.
“Elisa, stay back,” he said sharply. His body blocked mine as the door shook under Sylvia’s fury.
But I barely heard him. I only saw Rhys. Over and over again. He kept on recurring in my memories.
The door cracked. Splinters fell to the ground. Sylvia’s voice came again, low and cruel. “Elisa—” she called. I stood mortified. I was able to take my stance, not shaking.
Fear shot through me, this girl never relented but my thought soon switched from Sylvia to Rhys.
“She’s here,” he said. “I’ll kill her before she touches you.” Sylvia swore and I knew she was talking about Roman. Seeing me with me highlighted the issue.
“Is that why you followed me up to this place, jobless bitch?” I taunted her, unable to let it slide.
“No,” Rhys whispered, though neither Roman nor Sylvia could hear him. His eyes stayed on me. “Don’t say it out, we’ve got to be really wise.”
I took some minutes to interpret what he meant here.
I tried to explain it to myself but still the answer was hanging.
My throat closed. I wanted to scream in frustration since I couldn’t achieve what I wanted.
“Rhys, please come back!” I begged into the air hoping he would get to hear from me.
“Finally,” she hissed. “You thought you could hide in here? You thought he could save you?” She chuckled, then burst out laughing with a voice that sounded like multiple people speaking at once.
Her gaze cut straight to me, ignoring Roman completely. She wanted me.
Roman stepped forward, blocking her line of sight. His body was rigid, every muscle ready to strike. “You’ll have to go through me,” he growled.
Sylvia’s laugh echoed through the chapel, quiet and serene. “Oh, Roman. Elisa… Do you still feel him? Do you still burn for Rhys even now?”
A mocking question.
My chest tightened. I balled my fist. How I wish there was no law.
I began to feel some signs, a deeper presence to me, Rhys must have returned.
Roman snarled. His wolf pushed close to the surface. “You won’t touch her. Me?” He chuckled.
Sylvia’s smile widened. “You’re blind. You don’t even see what stands beside her still.”
Her words made my heart skip. Could she…?
I glanced at Rhys. His eyes widened, and he shook his head slowly. I stumbled, almost falling. His influence is top-notch.
She could sense him.
My body trembled. Fear wrapped around me. But so did love.
Roman lunged forward, his fists clenched, but Sylvia flicked her hand. A blast of force sent him flying into the wall.
Gossshhh—
The backbones hurt and cracked. He groaned, pushing himself up, fury radiating from him.
“No!” I screamed. I ran toward him, but Sylvia’s hand lifted again, stopping me in my tracks.
“You belong to me, Elisa,” he whispered.
