Chapter 8 Eight
Amy’s POV
I looked at Damien who wasn’t even scared or worried about the trouble he was putting me in. It seemed like he was enjoying the whole situation of me being scared of my brother and trying to dodge this. My brother finally reached my door.
“Please can you just disappear again? I don’t know how you did it the last time but can’t you do it?” I begged Damien with my hands put together.
This man would be the death of me. He smiled and pulled me in for a kiss before whispering into my ears.
“I’ll be waiting for you, beautiful. You better not disappoint me or I don’t know what I’m going to do next. I can’t promise you I’ll be good.” He said like a threat before leaving through the window?
I couldn’t believe my eyes. How was he doing it? Jumping through the window when my room is this high must be so crazy. What is going on in his head? I don’t even know what I’m supposed to say to him if he comes back. I decided to focus on the task at hand.
I rushed to the door before my brother could knock and opened it. “What are you doing back here?” I quickly asked him.
“I heard some noises and I came back. Besides, I told you that dinner was ready and you didn’t come down on time which got me wondering what was going on with you.” He explained which I didn’t want to hear because I was still nervous.
What if Damien was still watching and would come back anytime soon? It’s not safe for my brother to stay in this room for long. I must stop him from visiting frequently.
“You just told me not too long ago and I was trying to get ready for it. Why did you have to come back so soon? It’s like you’re not even giving me a chance to be in my room at all.” I scolded him.
He looked at me like he was trying to see if I was hiding something or not. Should I be angry or happy he’s looking out for me? Maybe this was a good thing against Damien but I don’t think I want this to continue. At this rate, he’s going to find out about Damien and I soon. Bad things would happen if he does and I don’t want any of that now. My parents would never support me with Damien either.
It’s not as if I’m also supportive of this but there’s not much I can do in this situation. Damien knows my secret and he’ll use that against my family. He’s a vicious man that doesn’t care about anyone but himself.
“You sound like you’re hiding something. What’s wrong with coming into my little sister’s room to check on her?” He replied after a moment of silence.
“Aren’t you going home? You’re already married and you shouldn’t bother your grownup sister so much. I’m a woman too and you barge into my room too much. You need to give me some privacy.” I demanded from him.
He sighed and ruffled my hair. “Stop being so immature and come downstairs with me.”
He dragged me out of the room that I almost forgot that my clothes were disheveled. I quickly stopped him.
“Why don’t you go first? I need to use the bathroom!” I lied and pushed him off before running back into my room.
“Then, make sure you come down soon. Don’t make me come back myself.” He told me and left.
I heaved a sigh of relief after he left. Am I completely losing my mind? I hope he didn’t notice because I don’t know how I’ll get out of that conversation if he did. My mom would have noticed immediately if I went down like this. I quickly changed my clothes while looking for Damien. I just hope that bastard doesn’t come back again.
I finally went downstairs and dinner started. My family kept staring at me in silence while I ate. It was like they had something to say to me but I felt so uncomfortable.
“Is there something on my face?” I asked them.
They’re acting so weird and it’s making me think they have a lot to hide. Could it be that they already found out my secret and they want me to confess first? I cleared my throat again since no one was saying anything. I was starting to get offended by the fact that they kept staring at me like I was some kind of criminal or something.
“Can you just tell me why you’re looking at me like that or should I just leave since you’re so bent on making me so uncomfortable with your stares?”
Caleb sighed, “Is there something you might want to tell us? Something you’re hiding from us that we deserve to know?
Fear gripped me a little at that moment. Do they know something already even though I tried so hard to hide it? I didn’t want to admit to anything so I held on to my fork without saying anything for a moment but carefully analyzing the situation.
Any word from me now might be the confirmation they need. Then, I just have to make sure they don’t find out. I won’t give them the opportunity to confirm anything. I’ll keep denying things since there’s no evidence.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about. You should stop talking in riddles and tell me what you want to know.” I replied, sipping a drink.
“Do you have a boyfriend that you’re hiding from us?” My brother asked and I spat out my drink right on his face.
For a moment, I wanted the ground to open up and swallow me because of what I just did. My brother and parents were confused and it took them a moment to recover. They quickly gave my brother something to clean his face with and I know I wasn’t going to hear the end of it. I tried to sneak away slowly but they caught me.
“Where do you think you’re going Amelia?” Mom stopped me.
I shook my head, “I’m a little tired and I want to go back to my room.”
She sighed, “You should have just said you didn’t have a boyfriend. There’s no need to spit on your brother’s face like that.”
They really believed my acting? I’m starting to wonder if I entered the wrong family because my family usually finds ur easy to detect if I’m lying or not. But now, they’re going out of their way to believe me?
“I didn’t mean it like that. It was just a reaction. I’m sorry about that.” I apologized and ran upstairs.
I didn’t want to give them any more opportunity to question me. The moment I got into my room, I fell on my bed staring straight at my ceiling. I didn’t even last long when I got a message from my phone. It was from Damien and he was asking me to show up. How did he even get my number?
