Chapter 20

Freya Rose As soon as I screamed out Balan's name, all the wolves in the party began to growl.

“Aiden has ordered us to get all of the humans out safely. I'm going to open up the fire escape doors and let them all out. Will you be okay here?” Cassie asked me and I nodded in reply.

She ran off and within seconds the fire alarm was screeching. The DJ began instructing everyone to leave via the fire exit to the right of the dance floor. People were panicking, screaming and shoving each other. The wolves did their best to keep it under control, but it was getting way out of hand.

I made sure no humans were around me when I illuminated my eyes. I needed to see the supernatural beings auras through my angel eyes. I remembered that wolves glowed blue and vampires yellow. I gradually scanned around the room and spotted at least twenty vampires coming in through the main doors. Two of them stayed by those doors, while the others made their way through the hall. I knew we roughly had around thirteen werewolves at the party already. Aiden must have kept some of the warriors and trackers close by in case of emergencies, because as the humans were leaving through the fire exit, the werewolves were streaming in.

I had also spotted six bright white lights that I instantly recognized as hunters. One of them shone with a slight pink tint, and I guessed that it was Mason. I didn't know what they were doing here, but I was glad to have the extra fighting power, that they brought along with them. Once all the humans were out, the doors were shut and locked. The music was shut off and all the wolves began to shift. With the whole room filled with the unsettling sound of breaking bones, snarls and growls, I began to stalk towards Tristan and Balan. I froze in the spot when I heard Tristan shout,

“I will not let you take her!”

He then punched Balan in the face before attempting to grab him, but the bloodsucker vanished, then reappeared behind him.

“Tristan look out!” I screamed.

I have seen this all before, I thought to myself, as flashes of my dreams came flooding back to my mind.

I knew exactly what was going to happen. Dread flooded my senses because I knew Tristan was about to be killed. I ascended as quickly as I could and sprinted towards them. Vampires intercepted me and snatched at my arms I didn't know how many of them were holding me back, but I was guessing five or more, because I couldn't move at all. I knew if it was only two or three of them, I would have been able to throw them off of me easily.

I thrashed around trying to get myself free from their grip. I was grabbing at their hands, just like I had in my dreams, but every time I dragged one hand off of me, another one took its place. The sounds of wolves growling, and whimpering were all around me and I could hear punches connecting, bones breaking, jaws snapping and vampires hissing. The air soon filled with the metallic scent of blood, but all I could see was Balan taking Tristan into a choke hold.

“Tristan!”

I tried to run towards them, but the vampires were still holding me back. Tristan wasn’t moving anymore and I knew that I didn't have long left to save him. I wriggled and kicked trying to break free, but they wouldn’t let me go. In my dreams, I'd had no choice but to stand by and watch helplessly while Tristan died, but this was real life, and I was a fucking hunter. So, I tried the only thing I could think of. I'm sorry wolves. Tilting my head back, I took in the deepest breath that I could muster, before screeching as loudly as I could. Wolves all around me whimpered and howled. The vampires hissed and instantly let go of me to cover their ears. Balan also covered his ears and then vanished as Tristan plummeted to the floor then just laid there motionless. I knew I was too late, because I'd seen that in my dreams so many times before. If the dreams were coming true, then Tristan was already gone.

“Linda?... Tyler?... Aiden? Someone, please help us!” I screamed hoping to God that I was wrong. Doctor Dobson shifted back to her human form and sprinted to Tristan's side.

“Go! I'll see to, Tristan. You go and kill that son of a bitch!” She shouted at me.

I nodded and turned around to scan the room for Balan. I spotted him, he was in the middle of the dance floor surrounded by groups of fighting vampires and werewolves.

“What the hell are you staring at?” I yelled at him.

He chuckled, then whistled. All of a sudden, the vampires stopped fighting and moved behind him. The wolves and hunters instantly chased after them.

“Stop! Stand down.” They turned around to look at me with confusion. “He has my mom!” I yelled while pointing at Balan.

A huge grin grew across his face as he held her out in front of him by the back of her neck. Her eyes were full of fear and she had tears streaming down her face.

“Mom it's going to be okay. Just close your eyes and stay calm. I'm going to fix this, okay?” I said trying to reassure her.

She smiled lightly and shut her eyes right, just like I instructed. I edged closer to Balan and my mom until I was only a few feet away from them. I had no idea what I was going to do, but Balan began talking before I could think of anything.

“Freya, I told you that you had until your eighteenth birthday to give yourself to me willingly. Or, I would start killing your friends and family one by one,” he paused letting his words sink in, then moved my mother forwards a little more, making her cry out in panic. “You chose to ignore me. So, I'm here to show you that I don't make idle threats, Princess. Your beloved, Tristan is dead and if you don’t do exactly what I say, I will kill your precious mother. Then everyone else in this godforsaken flea pit!” He screamed the end and squeezed his nails into my mom's neck, making her yelp.

“Okay. Okay. I'll do anything you want. Just please, let her go!” I pleaded with him.

I descended and fell onto my knees in front of him.

“You will leave with me now and become my wife willingly?” He asked with excitement in his disgustingly red-tinted eyes.

The thought of being with him made my skin crawl and I couldn't imagine a lifetime with him touching me, or kissing me. I felt like vomiting all over his ridiculously expensive shoes, but I needed to know that my mom and everyone else would be safe. I couldn't think of any way out.

“I will. My, Prince.”

I glared into his eyes then bowed my head in defeat, but I was sure with his giant ego, he would have seen me bowing to him as a sign of respect.

“Ah, a wise choice my, Princess. Come, we shall be wed as soon as possible. We have so much to plan. My brother, who's also our Sire, is really looking forward to meeting you. Come, come, Princess, stand up. You're too special to be on the floor like some peasant,” he announced and began to loosen his grip on my mom's neck.

I rose to my feet and crept towards him.

“No!” Mason screeched.

All of the wolves began howling and the vampires hissed when Mason’s screech hurt their delicate ears. Sadly, his screech wasn't quite loud enough to fully immobilize Balan. All it managed to do was piss off again. Mason charged at him, but Balan was too fast for him and punched Mason in the face, knocking him out cold. As soon as Mason's body hit the floor, Damien, Evan and the other hunters charged at Balan too.

“No!” I screamed at them.

I ascended again and levitated into the air. Three of the hunters stopped, but Evan and Damien kept on running. I built up my energy and tilted my head back ready to let out my Angel screech, but when I opened my mouth to screech, a high-pitched howl came out instead. When it did my hands burned red hot like they'd been doused in lava.

I thrust them towards Evan and my dad and a pulse of electrical fire shot out of my hands and threw them both across the room and into the disco. The disco crashed down around them and two large speakers boomed when they hit the dance floor. I lowered myself to the floor and turned back to face Balan. His eyes were huge, but not with shock or fear, he looked proud and excited.

“Wow my, Princess. You are so much more powerful than I once gave you credit for. We are going to have such a fantastic future. Together we can rule the world!” He declared with pure glee.

Inside I rolled my eyes. Great, I'm going to be married to a madman. Hell-bent on taking over the world. I tried not to laugh at him as my brain took me to a strange place. I saw visions of Doctor Evil out of the Austin Powers movies. Balan let my mother go and I didn’t know what came over me, but the thought of being with that creep forever just sent me mad. How my brain didn't tell my mouth to shut up I don't know, but I suddenly found myself shouting, “Mom, run!”

She glanced at me and immediately began running. I screeched into the air making sure the other vampires couldn't get to her. She darted towards the exit and pushed on the door.

“It's locked!” She screamed in a panic.

Crap! I forgot that they'd locked us in. Fuck. Think, Freya, think.

It was too late. Balan had already grabbed a hold of her again and held her up in the air by the back of her neck. He stormed over to the dance floor, carrying her like a wildcat carrying its prey. He placed her down right in front of me and said, “Tut. Tut. Tut. Freya, that was a very careless mistake to make. What I do next is on your hands.”

He moved his other hand behind my mother’s back. A huge grin spread across his face as he thrust his hand right through my mother’s body. Her eyes grew wide as she stared right at me. Tears fell down her cheeks and blood began to slide out of the corner of her mouth. I tried to scream but no sound came out. I watched helplessly as her eyes began to glaze over. She coughed and spluttered when the blood began spilling out of her mouth like a thick crimson river. She peeked down to her chest and I couldn’t help but follow her gaze.

“Noo... Mom!” I screamed out to her.

I descended and dropped onto my knees, before reaching up to grab a hold of her hand. Balan's arm had pierced through her body and was now protruding out from her chest. He was holding her still-beating heart in his icy-cold fist. He let out an evil chuckle when he dropped my mother's heart onto the floor like it was garbage. It splattered onto the floor only a few inches away from my knees. I let go of my mother's hand and clench my hands into fists when I felt my rage building stronger than it ever had before.

The heat within me was like an erupting volcano, but it didn't burn me, it was feeding me it's magnificent power. I stood up and watched while my mother’s body took its last gurgled breath. Balan screwed his face up in disgust and pushed on my mother’s back with his other hand. He body slid along his arm effortlessly and as soon as he'd pulled his hand out of the hole in her chest, her body went limp and dropped to the floor in a heap.

“I told you that I don't make idle threats, Princess. You will be mine whether you want to be or not. Now come, Freya. I tire of your silly games. You will come with me now, or I will kill every single person in this room. That is a promise!” He shouted his demands at me while taking a white handkerchief out of his front suit pocket and wiping my mother’s blood off of his hands.

Watching his complete disregard and disrespect for my mother, my family and even me, made me furious. If I could have, I would have sold my soul to the devil to wipe every last one of those sons of bitches off the face of the earth. This sick, twisted, fuck is going to die. I will kill him tonight, or die trying, I thought to myself when I felt the burning inside me get even hotter.

“I... Will... Not!” I screeched into my ascension again, faster than I'd ever done before.

A fiery light glowed around my body and Balan's eyes grew wide. He dropped the handkerchief onto the floor and his face filled with fear for the very first time. My wings extended and my eyes shone brighter than the moon itself. He began to back away from me, so I tilted my head to the side, while watching him through my Angel eyes. I let out a booming cackle as I charged right at him.

I could tell he was thinking about running, but it was too late for him. After lunging at him, I clasped his head between both of my hands. I held on to it tightly as he tried to squirm and wriggle out of my grip. When I leaned into him, I traced a long lick of my tongue up his neck and felt his body shudder beneath me. My giant smirk grew as I whispered into his ear, “You are mine, Prince Balan.”

I sank my human teeth into his jugular vein and ripped out a huge chunk of his flesh.

He screamed as blood squirted from the hole I'd just created in his neck. He began to squirm even more, but the more he squirmed the tighter my grip got on his skull. I gradually pulled back and peered into his fear riddled eyes, before tilting my head to the side again. I grinned at him, knowing I still had his blood and flesh in my teeth.

“You keep squirming like that and I’m going to end up popping your head open like a grape.”

I chuckled at him and his eyes grew even wider. My grin grew when I realized that I had him petrified. I licked my blood-stained lips and asked, “Nothing to say my dear bloodsucking Prince?”

I lifted my head back upright and raised my eyebrows at him, waiting for him to answer. He said nothing, so I lowered my ear to his mouth. He still didn't say a peep. “Hmmm, I do tire of your games, my parasite Prince.”

I watched a single tear roll down his cheek as he replied softly, “I would have worshipped you, my darling Princess.” He'd said it in an almost believable and sincere voice. I rolled my eyes heartlessly at him, and screamed at him my reply,

“I am not your, Princess!”

His eyebrows raised to his hairline at my response. Without a second thought, I rotated my hands, snapping his pitiful neck. Yanking my arms upwards as hard as I could, I viciously tore his head right off of his shoulders. Gasps came from both the vampires and hunters as his body smashed into the floor.

I wasn’t Freya anymore. At that moment in time, I had become something else and I was beyond my humanity. I didn't feel anything anymore, not pain, not upset, not even love. I felt absolutely nothing for the situation, or for the people in the room. None of them meant anything to me. They were just unimportant beings, every single one of them. I scanned around as werewolves began shifting back to their human forms.

Cassie tried to walk towards me, but Tyler promptly held her back. Mason was still lying on the floor and Evan and my father had pity in their eyes, as they watched me throw Balan's head into the crowd. Vampires and werewolves alike rapidly moved out of the way, and watched his head bounce along the floor.

I turned and glanced over at Tristan. Linda was giving him CPR, while Clara was holding his hand and Aiden was standing above him starting at me in shock. I turned again to face the fire exit and proceeded to walk towards it. I callously stepped over Balan’s body and then even stepped over my own mother's body, without so much as a second glance. The werewolves, vampires and hunters alike, all parted and backed away from me. It was either in pure shock or fear.

I got to the fire exit door, lifted my arms up and shot electrical fireballs out of my hands. They blew the door apart within seconds like the doors were made out of paper. I strolled out of the club and into an alleyway. I gazed up into the air and saw a clear night’s sky that was beautifully illuminated by the northern lights. My gaze soon found the ice-blue, glowing moon.

“Mother are you there?” I called out into the night.

“Yes, my dear girl. I am always by your side. I am so proud of you my dear, Freya. You've impressed me tonight. You're much stronger than anyone dares to realize. You showed such courage and bravery. I thought you were going to bow down to Balan and be his bride,” Selene replied through a mind link.

I sniggered at the idea of being Balan's wife. It was never going to happen. The man was a delusional psychopath.

“Although, he was telling you the truth. He would have worshipped the very ground you walked on. He loved you, but he was also fascinated by you. You still have a long journey my dear girl, but watching you just now, I have complete faith in you. You will overcome all that life has to throw at you, I am sure of it,” she said lovingly.

I smiled up at the moon while she continued, “You are strong and you will pick yourself up and carry on. Now, come to me my sweet. You need to rest and rebuild. Up here with me, you will be loved and kept safe.”

Selene spoke with such wisdom and she made me feel so loved and whole. She was the only one that mattered to me right now, making her proud and happy was now my life's goal. She made me feel powerful and blessed. I didn't know why I was so special. I didn't know if it was potluck, or if it was destiny, but I didn't care. Right now, all I cared about was getting to her and feeling her loving embrace.

I spread my wings and bent my knees so that I was crouching on the floor. After flapping my giant wings against the cool night's air, I pushed away from the ground as hard as I could. I flew up into the night, becoming one with the bright swirling lights that lit up the sky. While gliding through the sky, I danced with the gorgeous colored streams that flowed through the air. After playing with the northern lights, I climbed higher into the sky, past the bright twinkling stars and towards the ice blue moon. The place that was now my new home and where the moon Goddess, my mother, was waiting for me.
