Chapter 234 False Peace
Chapter 234 False Peace
Lily's POV
The silence stretched between us like a loaded weapon, each second ticking by with unbearable tension.
Silas straightened his tie with deliberate precision, the cruel satisfaction from his earlier confession dissolving into a mask of practiced diplomacy.
"We come in peace, Alpha Gabriel." The words rolled off his tongue like honey over broken glass. "We're here seeking to end this destructive conflict that has torn our communities apart."
Peace. The word felt obscene coming from his mouth.
"The isolation has hurt all our packs," Silas continued, spreading his hands in a gesture of false sincerity. "Our people are suffering. Trade routes have been severed, families separated. This animosity benefits no one."
Gabriel's expression remained carved from ice, but through our mate bond, I could feel the dangerous current of his suppressed rage. It ran beneath his skin like molten silver, waiting to erupt. There was something else too—a cold, calculating determination that sent shivers down my spine. He wasn't just angry. He was planning something.
"We're proposing a fresh start," Silas pressed on, apparently oblivious to—or choosing to ignore—Gabriel's lethal stillness. "Restored trade relationships, open borders, renewed cooperation between our territories."
Vince shifted in his chair, his massive frame barely contained by the furniture. When he spoke, each word seemed to cost him tremendous effort to keep civilized.
"We're willing to discuss... compensation." His voice was a barely controlled growl. "For any... unfortunate events."
Unfortunate events. As if my kidnapping, torture, and near-death experience were some kind of business miscalculation. The casual dismissal of my suffering made bile rise in my throat.
Gabriel's laugh was a sound devoid of all warmth. "Peace?" He repeated the word like it was something toxic. "After you kidnapped and tortured my pregnant mate?"
The mate bond suddenly flared with such intense fury that I gasped, my hand instinctively moving to my throat. But beneath Gabriel's rage, I felt something else—an iron-hard resolve, sharp as a blade and twice as deadly. He had already decided how this would end.
"There will be no peace," Gabriel continued, his voice dropping to a whisper that somehow carried more menace than any shout. "No trade. No forgiveness."
"Then what do you want?" Silas's diplomatic facade was beginning to crack at the edges, desperation bleeding through his controlled tone.
For the first time since they'd entered the room, Gabriel smiled. It was the kind of smile that made predators step back and prey animals run for their lives.
"You want to know what it will take?" Gabriel's voice was silk over steel. "I have three conditions."
Silas nodded eagerly, like a man thinking he'd finally found solid ground. Vince's jaw was so tight I was surprised his teeth didn't crack, his knuckles white where they gripped the arms of his chair.
"First," Gabriel held up one finger, his eyes never leaving Silas's face, "public confession. You will address every Alpha in our alliance network, admitting your crimes in detail and begging for forgiveness."
The color drained from Silas's face like water from a broken dam. His mouth opened and closed soundlessly, his diplomatic composure crumbling. Vince's face went ashen, then flushed deep red, the vein in his temple throbbing visibly.
"Second," Gabriel continued, raising a second finger with deliberate slowness, "complete territorial concession. You will cede the northern territories to Moonfall as compensation for damages."
Now Vince was trembling, his hands shaking so badly that the table vibrated beneath them. Silas's eyes went wide with something approaching panic, sweat beading on his forehead despite the cool air conditioning.
"Are you out of your fucking mind?" Vince's voice exploded across the room, his chair scraping against the floor as he half-rose from his seat. "Those territories have been ours for generations! You want us to hand over a third of our land?"
"Alpha Gabriel," Silas interjected quickly, his voice strained but still attempting diplomacy, "surely you understand that such territorial concessions would be... unprecedented. Perhaps we could discuss alternative forms of compensation—"
"No." Gabriel's single word cut through Silas's proposal like a knife. His tone was final, absolute. "Those are my terms. Non-negotiable."
Vince's face was cycling through shades of red that suggested he might actually stroke out. "This is fucking ridiculous! You can't just—"
"Alpha." Silas's voice cracked like a whip, his hand shooting out to grip Vince's forearm with white-knuckled intensity. The Beta's eyes were wide with warning, practically screaming at his leader to maintain control. "Please."
Through our mate bond, I felt Gabriel's cold amusement at their desperation. He was enjoying this—watching them squirm, watching their carefully constructed facade crumble piece by piece.
Vince's jaw worked soundlessly for several long seconds before he slowly lowered himself back into his chair, though his entire body remained coiled like a spring ready to snap.
Silas took a shaky breath, his diplomatic mask sliding back into place though it was clearly held together by sheer force of will. "And... your third condition, Alpha Gabriel?"
"Third," Gabriel's smile widened into something that belonged in nightmares, his voice dropping to barely above a whisper, "personal submission. You will both publicly kneel before Lily and beg her forgiveness in front of the entire werewolf community."
Through our bond, I felt Gabriel's savage satisfaction surge like a tide. This wasn't negotiation—it was calculated humiliation, designed to strip away every shred of their pride and power.
The effect was immediate and explosive.
Vince's face cycled through a spectrum of colors—white to red to purple—before settling on a shade that suggested he might actually explode. Silas looked like he'd been physically struck, his mouth working soundlessly as he processed the impossible demands.
"You... you can't be serious," Silas finally managed, his voice cracking like a teenager's.
"Dead serious," Gabriel confirmed, leaning back in his chair with the relaxed confidence of someone holding all the cards.
And there it was.
Vince exploded.
"NEVER!" The word erupted from him like a volcanic blast, spittle flying as he lurched to his feet. "I will never kneel to that worthless bitch!"
"Alpha, don't—" Silas lunged forward, genuine terror in his voice, but he was too late.
In a blur of motion that seemed to slow and accelerate at the same time, Vince's claws erupted from his fingertips as he launched himself across the table directly at Gabriel's throat, his face twisted into a mask of pure rage.
But Gabriel had been waiting for this.
