Chapter 128: HAPPY ENDING
Chapter 128: HAPPY ENDING
Ralph
"You are now the big brother of the family." Rieka chipped in and I growled. No matter how much I have accepted Dave, I am not allowing him to take my role.
"Ralph will always be the big brother with his strong arm and he will keep us safe." Dave bowed and I smiled. I felt my chest swelling but my Mom cut me down to size by smacking the back of my head.
"You guys should be ready for breakfast, I hope your Dad gets home soon." He left early in the morning to hunt. I didn't wake up on time, so I couldn't go with him.
"Mom, can I go with Rieka and Ralph to do some personal stuff?" Dave said and calling my parents Mom still sounded foreign to his mouth but I know he will get used to it soon.
We were done with breakfast and Dad said we would soon be going back home. I thought Rieka would be sad about returning to the South. Contrary to my thoughts, she can't wait to show Dave around Anu Ukwu.
"Alright, I will also follow you guys to say our goodbyes to our friends." My Dad said and Rieka and I gasped.
"Do you have friends?" I asked and he gasped, pretending to be offended by my question.
"You will be surprised how friendly people can be to newcomers. And they have no idea that I am a King." My Dad said and I can't imagine my Dad being in friendly discussion with people. I can imagine my Mom because she has the attraction that pulls people to her but my Dad is different.
"Thanks, we will be on our way then." Dave said and the three of us left and Rieka was skipping ahead of us. I don't know who is happier, she or Dave.
"I want to thank you for what you have done for me." Dave said.
"That is what I am born to do, brother." I replied and it wouldn't be so bad having someone to call my brother. He chuckled and I stopped, we faced each other and he extended his hand and I took them in a handshake.
"I will always be around to support you in everything you do, brother." Dave added.
Two grown-ups, we might appear to be two little children making promises because we are ignorant of the world. I know this is not just a childish promise, this is a vow he will honor with his life.
"It is going to be hard, I will appreciate your help." I smiled.
"Come on slowpokes, I don't know the place." My sister said and I rolled my eyes.
"Then, how come you went ahead of us?" I said as we went ahead to join her.
We went to the cottage, seeing it in the daytime made me see how ugly and hideous it was. Dave's face darkened as he was being reminded of the past.
"You are free now, Dave." My sister reminded him and he smiled.
"Let us burn it down." Dave said.
"Don't you want to take anything from there?" I asked.
"Nothing there is worth keeping or taking." He replied with a serious face and I sighed. I thought I would have the opportunity to go inside and look around.
"Let us do it together."
Rieka held his hands and they chanted some spells and the cottage was set ablaze. Rieka is said to be a very talented heretic and my Mom said Dave might be the greatest heretic but they are still a child to have produced the amount of fire burning the cottage.
"Never have I been able to make such a fire." Dave said with surprise.
"Remember what Mom said about connecting our hearts and creating a great fire." Rieka reminded us.
"I am sure she said light." I corrected her and she stuck her tongue out to me.
"I have one more thing to do." He gathered thirty stones and made a grave, then placed the stone in every grave.
"Each stone represents one of the children I met in captivity. They weren't buried, I hope their souls shall rest with this burial I am giving them."
"They will be happy." Rieka assured him and we all helped out. After that, he decided to take us to another part of the area. We have never been there and it took us a while to get there.
"We need to hurry before the sunset." He appeared to be in a hurry.
"Dave, you no longer have to worry about the sunset."
Rieka complained as she was already getting tired. We had to climb, crawl and skip through the bush part and it was exhausting for Rieka, who is below average wolf strength.
"Sometimes I wonder if you are really a wolf." I said as I offered to carry her and she was happy to accept. Not long after, we came out of the forest to a lake.
"What is it that you wanted to show us?" Rieka asked as she came down from my back.
"I wasn't asking you to hurry because I needed to come back before sunset, that part of me is gone as I have gotten a new home. I am asking you to hurry because I have been meaning to show you this." He gestured towards the lake and my eyes widened.
"Wow,"
Rieka moved forward as we were both enchanted by the image before us. The sun seemed to be burning on top of the lake and one couldn't figure out where the sky stopped and where the lake started. Both the lake and the sky appear to have become one horizon. The beautiful colours of the sky were being reflected in the lake.
"What could be more beautiful." I murmured, both the sunrise, the moonlight, none of them takes my breath away like the image before me.
"Thanks for showing us this." Rieka cried and we all held hands together with Rieka being in the middle. It was only for a moment but it will last forever. We watched the sun as it disappeared from the sky.
"Let us go home." I said and we all headed home.
Dianna POV
I was sitting on the sand watching the man that I have come to call mine playing with the children. A new member has been added to the family and he is happy as we are. Looking back to my life, I can't believe all the obstacles that I had to overcome. He looked back at me and gave me his time-stamping smile.
He was just in his shorts and his upper body was bare. He inherited the best gene of a wolf. I saw most of the married women stealing a glance at him whenever we met any of them. I used to hate it when ladies stare at him like they want to eat him up, but now, I no longer care. I am even starting to revel in it, it is not easy being mated to the most powerful and handsome being.
We will soon be going back to Anu Ukwu, back to all the burdens of being the Queen. I enjoy being the Empress but it is not always easy. What I enjoyed most about being the Empress or the Queen is that I get to be his Queen. After their play, we all went inside to have our dinner. I enjoyed every bit of the holiday. I get to cook for my family without the maid trying to help me and show me where the utensils were.
"Your food is always something to look forward to." Dave said with his eyes closed as he took the first bite.
"You can say that again son." Phoenix added. He said he would make a law in his house where I would be the one to cook for the family once a month.
"As a matter of fact, once we get back, I will build a new home where we can all go and relax and stay away from the pressure of being royalty." Phoenix said.
"I still can't believe you are a King."
Dave was speechless when he realized our status. The twins never told him and it wasn't because they wanted to hide it from him, it was because they never thought of it.
"It makes no difference."
Rieka assured him. I am not a seer but I am already guessing the future that Dave holds in Rieka's life.
"It makes all the difference, what will people think of me being called the son of the King." Dave said.
"It doesn't matter what they think, all that matters is what you think." Ralph still tried to assure him but they were unable to lift his spirit.
"When you first met me, you asked if I am a god?" Phoenix spoke and just like the first day Dave saw him, he looked at my Khan with reverence.
"Yes." He nodded.
"This god is calling you son, what does it matter what his subjects say." This was all it took to make Dave happy. We continued the dinner in peace like one big happy family.
After dinner, I tuck the children to bed after I have told them a midnight story. I won't deny it feels good having one other child that is interested in your story. Ralph shows little interest in my stories that sometimes I wonder how older he is.
"The children are asleep." I said as I entered inside but Phoenix was nowhere to be found. All I saw was a piece of paper on our bed with flowers around it. I remembered that Phoenix can't read or write, so I picked the paper to read the content.
"I DON'T KNOW IF MY WORDS WERE SPELLED CORRECTLY. I SPENT A LOT OF TIME STUDYING TO BE ABLE TO WRITE THIS TO YOU. YOU CAN'T BELIEVE HOW LONG IT TOOK ME TO WRITE THIS TO YOU. FRANK DESERVES A REWARD FOR HIS PATIENT, IT IS NOT EASY TEACHING A STUBBORN KING.
"DIANNA, YOU ARE THE BEST THING THAT HAS EVER HAPPENED TO ME, YOU GAVE ME PEACE IN A CRUEL WORLD. YOU NURTURED ME WITH LOVE AND GAVE ME BEAUTIFUL CHILDREN. YOU ALWAYS REVIVED ME AND BROUGHT ME BACK TO LIFE WHENEVER I AM STARTING TO DRIFT AWAY. I LOVE YOU AND THAT IS THE BEGINNING AND THE END OF MY EXISTENCE."
I was already crying before I even finished reading what he wrote. I took one rose petal and folded the letter together with it. I opened my bag and tucked it inside there. I know I will always bring it out to read it in my spare time. I can't believe he went through so much just to write these words to me. I left the house to go join him and sit outside.
"Phoenix." I called and he gestured for me to come and sit on his lap.
"I LOVE YOU, You give me the strength to face the world."
"And you, my Love are a breath of fresh air to me." I chuckled and relaxed in his body as we both watched the moon.
We left the West in the morning after watching the sunrise. A part of me was sad to leave this wonderful place but a bigger part of me rejoiced with the thought of telling the ones at home about our journey here.
"Dave, you will be going to your new home." Rieka said as we left for Anu Ukwu.
"I will introduce you to all my friends and family, they would all love you." She added.
"Of course, if they don't, I can always make them see reasons." Ralph said and we all laughed at his words of encouragement.
The carriage moved slowly and I relaxed in the arms of my Mate. I have realized in life that there shouldn't be any hurry, one should slow down from time to time to look at the beautiful things around. I watched the children chatting away happily and I knew when they grow, they will make their lives as interesting as mine.
'Looking at them is like seeing the future." Phoenix linked me and I nodded on his shoulder.
'And the future is bright.' I responded and closed my eyes to feel everything.
Sometimes, the best way to feel everything is to close your eyes. I am in love with my life.
