Chapter 127

Chapter 127

Ralph

Dickson came inside and he reeked of death, it felt weird but I feel he is not from our time. He walked in proudly uninvited like he owns the place. He sent his hands ablaze but his hands weren't burning. He ignored everyone and headed directly to Dave, his obsession with Dave had made him blind to everything. He didn't even notice my Dad standing behind him or my sister beside Dave, or my Mom or even me. Not to brag but my Mom has always rendered every male speechless and out of breath whenever they see her for the first time. Some are always rendered speechless no matter how many times they see her. For this stranger not to have the slightest reaction means his obsession had taken over him.

"You have the nerves to walk into my house uninvited." He turned to see my Dad towering over him.

"Impossible." He murmured.

"You can't be alive,"

He stepped back in fear and the fire in his hands went off. His obsession with Dave seemed to have disappeared the moment he saw my Dad. I remembered Dave telling me he never believes someone can be this powerful. I can't help feeling proud to be called the son of Phoenix and the next Khan. It is such a big shoe to fill but I am determined to fill it.

"Look at the god that you were so afraid of." Rieka said to Dave.

"You seem to know me, I can't remember seeing you in my life." My Dad was perplexed.

"How can you exist even till now? Nelson." He said and now it is my Dad's turn to be surprised.

"You knew Nelson?"

For every step my Dad took forward, Dickson will take backwards. They get going at it till Dickson falls on a chair. He then turned to my Mom and gasped.

"What sorcery is this? How can both of you be alive?"

"I will answer the question, we are not who you think we are. We have met them and they are no longer on this earth. I am just curious about how you knew them?" He looked down and the aggressive look that he had when he walked in was no more. He laughed and appeared to have lost every meaning to his existence.

"How is it that you people are given a second chance and I am not. After the killing and massacre that you did, you don't deserve a chance." He looked at my Dad.

"For the last time, I am not Nelson."

"After you killed Max and rendered us powerless." I have a feeling he mistook my Dad for someone else.

"I swore to have my revenge, Max made a prophecy that someone will come to end it all. I couldn't wait for that so I started making use of everything I have to elongate my life. Since I couldn't wait on the one, I decided to create one." He looked at Dave.

"After many failed experiments, I got someone perfect, someone that would be strong enough to face any natural disasters. And here is he, in your arms."

"You have no excuse for making a young child pass through all those horrible experiments." My Mom reprimanded him.

"Even now, you are as kind as ever." He smiled as his eyes softened.

"I don't care about what happened in the past but I have achieved a peace that I am prepared to protect as much as I can." My Dad said.

"Peace?" He scoffed.

"This was the reason why we divided but that also didn't bring peace, instead it led to more destruction." He looked at Dave who was just seeing a few feet away from him.

"My perfect creature, after many experiments, I was able to get my desired result."

"He is not your creature, his name is Dave and he is my friend." Rieka moved to cover Dave from him.

"Who are my parents? And is my name really Dave?"

"Your parents," he sighed and then looked up.

"They died at my hands the day I abducted you. I killed the family of every child I have ever abducted. I don't want any annoying person looking for them. Your name is Dave and it was the last word of your mother."

"How long have you been doing that?" My Mom asked.

"Econs, I stopped counting the years and the boys and girls that have fallen." He shrugged like it was the most normal thing.

"You are cruel." I said and he smiled at me. His smile disgusted everything in me and if not for my Dad's advice, I would have lunged at him.

"The world is cruel, as long as there is a difference between the weak and the strong. The strong win with no justification and the weaks will always try to survive no matter how cruel they live. So you see, the world will always be cruel."

"Too bad, you will be leaving this cruel world." My Dad stepped forward and Dickson looked at him with total surrender to his fate.

"Dave, hate me all you want but I have given you the greatest gift." He smiled and murmured some words then turned to a wood.

"Is it the end?" Rieka asked and my Dad nodded. I looked at Dave as tears rolled down his eyes. I guess he couldn't believe he is free now.

"You are free now." I said to him.

"Am I allowed to follow you people back to Anu Ukwu?" He asked in between sobs.

"Of course yes, you are."

My Mom replied and Dave continued crying. I have a feeling he would not ever do that again so we all left him to cry as much as he wanted.

I looked at what used to be Dickson and hated the fact that he had a peaceful death. As if my Mom noticed my pain, she chanted some spell and the wood turned to ashes.

"You don't deserve peace." She muttered.

Dave slept off peacefully and Rieka fell asleep not long after. Dad asked me to take a walk with him. I knew he had something to say but he never said anything as we walked beside the lake. The moon is full and shining so bright and the lake appears to have diamonds in it. I can't even say which one is more beautiful. The sunrise in the morning or the moonlight at night.

"Beauty is everywhere, we just have to open our eyes to see it."

My Dad said as he stopped in front of the lake and I took the time to size him. He is very big and it is a bit far-fetched thinking I would one day be as big as him. I am not even up to his waist, I am barely above his knees.

"What you did today is great, you were able to help a friend in need."

"I didn't go there to rescue him. Although I have always smelled iron from him, no matter the spell he used to mask it, I can always smell it. I just went there to tell him that Rieka missed him and we will soon be leaving. I went there because of my sister Reika's happiness." He sighed.

"No matter your initial reason, you still rescued him when you saw he was in danger. You see, son, we are no longer the Alpha of the South or the greatest Pack that protects the wolves from harridans. We are the Kings that protect not just the wolves but every race from the dangers of this world. I have faced a lot of great enemies, ranging from your uncles to even myself." My Dad said.

"How can you be an enemy to yourself?" I asked my Dad. I can understand having a misunderstanding with your families but yourself? That is a bit much.

"We are constantly at war with ourselves. We have to fight between who we want to be and who we need to be. Sometimes the fight is also between doing what is best for yourself and what is best for everyone."

"So, what is best for us is not always what is best for everyone?" I asked and he nodded.

"Sometimes we know what is right but can't do it. We fall into temptation so many times that we even lose count. I know you are still a child and this is all too much for you to understand but as you grow older, always remember these words of mine and they will help you. You are a wolf, your memory is among the best."

"Tell me more Dad."

As he said, I am just a child and too little to even understand any of these but if it will help me in the future, I would like to hear them all. He ruffled my hair and smiled.

"No need to grow too fast, I will protect you as much as I can. One day you will be in my position just remember to be a man of principles."

"What are your principles?" I asked.

"No matter the condition, the disaster, the enemy, I will always keep you guys safe."

"What of Anu Ukwu Nation?" I asked.

"And Anu Ukwu." He smiled.

To do that he needs to be strong as he can, to be the pillar that always protects, he needs every strength.

"I will also make that my principles."

"Don't think about that now, you will know your principles when you grow older." I nodded but I knew I wouldn't be changing. I will become Anu Ukwu's protector just like he is.

"Can you make me fly like you did to Mom and Rieka?" His face lit up and I smiled. I have always turned him down whenever he wants to play with me. This is like a dream come true to him.

"Be ready, you will be flying like no other." He took me and threw me up with all his might. Truly, it was a flight like no other.

When Dave woke up the next morning, it took him a while to register all that had happened last night. Rieka was so happy that Dave would be joining us. Looking at the two made me think of them as mates. I shook away the thought as they are still too young for that, I really should start acting my age.

"Em,"

Dave murmured and I figured out that he was in a dilemma thinking how best to address my parents. He referred to them as Sir and Ma'am but he felt like it would not be proper to refer to them like that after what happened last night.

"You can call me Mom and call my Mate Dad." My Mom said as she always notices people's moods and inner conflicts. She just solved the little boy's dilemma.

"Really?" He asked happily and my Mom nodded.
