Chapter 125
Chapter 125
Ralph
Judging from the sound, it is only a child but it is alarming that I am not able to sense his presence even as I have heard him coming.
"What?"
The boy said the moment he came out from the bush, he looked at the flowers and looked at us.
"You did this?" He asked and my sister was still hiding behind me and he isn't that much older than me.
"Who are you?" I asked as I don't plan on being meek to a boy not much older than me.
"That is quite rude, you invaded my territory and you are using such a tone on me?"
He wasn't phased by my question. I started to release my ambience to subdue him but the funniest thing happened. He was protected by something that I can't figure out, I held back because I didn't want my parents to come and make a mess of things but I knew that standing before me is not an ordinary boy.
"Calm down." Rieka said behind my back and then stepped out. Seeing her, the boy's eyes widened and I have seen the look too many times to know he is smitten.
"We are sorry to have invaded, we are new and the flowers are beautiful." My sister said and the boy looked away and I swear his cheeks reddened.
"Don't worry about that." The boy replied and Rieka smiled as the boy also let out a gentle smile.
"I brought more flowers to plant, can you help me with it?" The boy asked and my sister's eyes widened with ecstasy and I rolled my eyes.
"That would be my greatest honor."
The two got along immediately and I went aside to study the boy. He was older than me but he appeared weak, I figured out that it was a result of malnutrition. His clothes are neat but seemed worn out. He was happily cultivating the flowers with Rieka and I can't shake away the feeling of wanting to fight him. Back in Anu Ukwu, nobody wanted to fight with me anymore but I have a feeling this boy would be strong enough to take me on. It is funny because he appears to be weak but I know he is nothing but weak and he is not a wolf.
"I am Rieka and this is my brother Ralph."
"I am Dave, nice to meet you." I have never seen my sister so happy so I decided not to bother them. It is almost time for us to go home but I knew our parents would be in their world to even think about us.
"Wow, even the sunset is beautiful." Rieka's words made me look at the horizon and noticed the beautiful sky.
"Sunset?" Dave got up abruptly.
"I need to get back." He took his basket and ran back to where he came from.
"I thought he would join us for dinner." Rieka spoke sadly.
"Will you come back tomorrow?" The boy came back just to ask that and seeing him, Reika's face lit up.
"Yes, if you want us to." Rieka answered.
"Yes, I would love that, maybe we can explore together." My sister nodded and he left immediately.
"Let us go home, it is already late." I said.
"He is so attuned with nature and being beside him is comforting." Rieka said as we both walked back home.
"Is he a heretic?" I asked.
"Yes, I think he is the most powerful heretic."
My sister has always been the type to exaggerate things so I hardly take her seriously sometimes. When Dad took us hunting she came back telling Mom that the bear was as tall as the tallest tree in the bush and that was just an exaggeration.
"Alright, you will see him tomorrow."
I wonder why I was unable to feel him though. Maybe Rieka felt him because of her connection to nature.
We kept hanging out with Dave and it was enjoyable. We even got along and Rieka was happy about it. He took us to many wonderful places and even made a crown of flowers for Rieka. It is sad that in her eyes I am no longer the one that shines the brightest.
Dave with his weak appearance has found his way into my sister's heart. I would be lying if I say I haven't warmed up to him too.
"You are injured?" I asked Dave the moment I am alone with him. He smiled.
"Even with the spell I used to make my scent, you are still able to perceive it. You are indeed powerful. It is just a minor wound."
"I will let you know that I have the ability to sense a lie." His eyes widened at my words.
"Don't worry, I won't ask about it since you don't want to share, just don't lie about that." He smiled and nodded.
"Do you care for a spar?" He asked.
"I have been wanting to fight you since I met you." I replied and Rieka came back carrying a little bear.
"Look at how cute it is." She gushed and my eyes widened.
"Where did you get that?" Dave asked, wearing the same expression as I am.
"I found him." She shrugged.
"He is a baby and that means his mother will be looking for him." I said as I slowly stepped closer to Rieka.
"But he is cute." My sister will be a handful to whoever her mate would be.
"It is risky, his mother would be looking for him and she would be very angry." Dave remarked.
"She is already here." I muttered and a big grizzly bear came out and roared.
"Give it back." I said.
"No." Rieka refused to give the little bear to his mother.
I have wanted to taste my strength, when Dad took us hunting, I thought he would let us in on the action but he didn't. So, this is the perfect time for me. I lunged at the bear and jumped on her back. I am aware of our weight difference, it would be stupid if I tried to push her down.
"Are you insane?" Dave asked but didn't hide the excitement in his voice. He went ahead to help me as he made the tree vine tangle around the bear and resisted her movement. It allowed me to deliver blow after blow on the bear until she fell.
"Stop!" Rieka yelled as I was about to attack the bear and Dave had already made the vine look like a spear. She left the little bear and he ran to his mother, she went ahead to release the bear from the vine and the bear left with the baby.
"It is all my fault, I shouldn't have taken the little bear." The excitement on Dave's face died down alongside mine.
"You know, you should have taken the baby bear had it been that we killed the mother." I remarked.
"And that would make me a bad person. Sorry if I made you guys think of something bad." She was sad and I turned to Dave.
"Do something." I murmured.
"I will be glad to join you guys for dinner tonight." Dave's words instantly lifted Rieka's mood. She had been inviting him for dinner but he always turned her down with the excuse of being busy.
"That would be great, it is almost dawn, let us get going." I said and she ran ahead of us.
"You are very good." I compliment him.
"And your punches are pretty heavy." He replied and we both smiled as we both ran after my sister. I have a feeling we would no longer have the match we desire but it is alright. Instead of making a rival, making him a partner sounds better.
Our mother was surprised when we brought Dave home and Rieka couldn't stop talking about him. Dad went out swimming and he would be back later. After Mom took account of Dave's clothes, she asked me to lend him one of my clothes and I was happy to do so. He helped us in the kitchen and my Mom complimented how respectful he is.
"I am home." My Dad announced and Rieka rushed out to hug him like always. He walked in carrying Rieka and I noticed how terrified Dave was. My Dad wasn't using his ambience but I am sure Dave noticed how powerful my Dad is by just being in front of him.
"Who is this young boy?" He asked.
"Our friend, we met him in the forest and he has been hanging out with us ever since then." Rieka explained everything but forgot to mention his name. Maybe she wanted to give him the opportunity to say it himself.
"What is your name?" My Dad asked.
"Dave." He replied with his mouth agape.
"You are welcome, Dave." My Dad extended his arm for a handshake and Dave looked at the hand and then spoke.
"Are you God?" His question made my Dad laugh.
"No, I am just a man that loves his family."
He shook my Dad's hand with reverence. After the dinner was set, Dave sat beside me and Rieka, like always, sat on my Dad's lap.
"I thought you were powerful but you are nothing compared to your father." He murmured beside me. I looked at my Dad and he paid no attention to us. There is no way he didn't hear that, he just chose to ignore us.
"I aspire to be like him." I replied.
"That is going to be hard, I never imagined that someone would be this powerful." Dave kept talking about my Dad in awe.
"Mom, tell us a story." Rieka has gotten used to our Mom's story that it has become her favorite pastime.
"Sure, would you like that, Dave?"
He nodded frantically. Now that I think of it, this is the first we have brought someone that is not our family home. I hope Dave has the same innocent mind as my sister because I have come to realize that my Mom's stories are just her imagination.
