Chapter 25: Guilty

It was therefore a shock to Felix when he heard Desmond say, 'About Gift, I am sorry if I hurt your feelings but I was of the opinion that you were estranged from her'. ' Or was I wrong to think that? I know that I should have chosen someone else to be attracted to but I can assure you it was not premeditated. It just happened and after the first, it became increasingly difficult to stop'.

' it's okay Des, you could not have been in control of yourself to do that and nobody is faulting you with it especially not I. You could not have chosen to become drawn to her. I believe it just happened. But I could not have done it to you no matter how immoral I might be. There is something called loyalty and you did not exhibit it'.

'I am aware that my actions did not depict loyalty but please forgive and forget for friendship sake'.

'Like I said, it's okay but just a simple question, do you love her?'

'I don't but I must admit I started noticing how pretty she was after your sepation from her. Of course I knew she was beautiful and for her to have captured and retained your love and attention for that long, she must have been a remarkable lady in every way that mattered but I was blind to all that until your separation. So it was not like I took her from you except of course you were planning on reuniting with her?', Desmond explained.

'Are you planning on getting her back?'

'No. I may have had no choice in the matter but right now I do because a beautiful and highly intelligent and moral lady is waiting for me in Lagos. Someone I can trust with my life, she is the reason I can't be reconciled with Gift that way. We will still be friends of course but never lovers'.

'Hmm, don't be too sure. Gift can really be very persuasive and alluring. You may find it difficult resisting her. You of all people should know that. You know what they say about old flames and all that'

Anyway, I am glad we have laid to rest our misunderstandings and now that it is out of the way, I heard you will be leaving any time soon and wish to tell you that for old times sake, when you get an accommodation of your own, I would like to come stay with you while searching for a place of my own if you don't mind'.

'Its Okay. I don't mind but I will have to get the house first'.

'Of course'. Desmond said. 'Bye for now'

'Have a great day' They shook hands again and hugged and Desmond left for his house, happy that they had been able to jump that hurdle successfully. He started humming and met Lawrence who was on his way to see Felix. Felix had actually asked to speak with him concerning something urgent and he was going to find out from him what it was since he did not want to say what it was on the phone.

'Hello D boy, how are you doing? It would seem that you came to see our dear friend Felix'. 'Yes indeed and I am glad I did. We have settled our differences and we can now move on with our lives'.

'That's good to hear. Let me go quickly and find out why he sent for me. Bye'.
