Chapter 24: Friends

Felix felt Gift would not come to see him for obvious reasons. He felt he may go back without having to see her which in his opinion would have been okay by him. But the chauvinist side of him wanted her to crawl and beg him to accept her back and he felt it would give him great pleasure to dash her hopes and send her off on her way.

He felt she would be filled with shame and disappointment since he had never refused her anything in the past not if he could afford it. For the five years he and Gift courted, he had made sure he satisfied her in every way.., expecially sexually. So she must have promiscuity in her bloodline for her to have willfully broken their engagement for an ugly older man. He was still lost in thought when he heard footsteps which indicated to him that he would have a visitor. Who it was, remained to be seen. He would find out anyway. So he made his room presentable and picked a magazine lying under the table and started browsing through it.

'Come in', he said at the sound of a knock on his door. He did not want the person to keep knocking thereby alerting his parents of their presence or disturbing their nap - his mother's especially. Desmond walked in with a confidence he really didn't feel.

'How is it old boy', he greeted cheerfully. ' Hello, the D, I'm great, how about you?' They shook hands like old times and Desmond got a glimpse of the old Felix. They sat down and charted for a while.

'How is Lag and the female folk? I heard there are lots of beautiful girls from different tribes and the men are like hot cake especially one as handsome as you' he said to lighten the atmosphere.

The girls are there. My work is fine and I don't concern myself too much with the ladies these days. There are too many of them and if you are not careful you will have your bones broken to pieces because each wants a piece of you or desire to have sole rights over you plus the fact that you have to spend profusely to keep a girl. You can now imagine how much it will cost you to have a fleet of girls at your beck and call. Love is secondary in this case but if you are lucky, you may find one who likes your company more than she likes your money' Felix told him.

Felix waited for him to bring up the affair with Gift as they chatted but it seemed that he was hedging and he wondered if he would be the one to raise the issue himself. He knew that Desmond was feeling anxious and he wanted him to feel at ease. After all he was not to blame entirely. If the girl in question had had any modesty, they won't be in this situation in the first place. So Gift was totally to blame and though he may not trust Desmond with anything that was his anymore, he would still have him as a friend. It was childish and beneath him to hold a grudge against him for such a trifle - for that was how he saw it - a trifle.
