Chapter 67 The Loneliness of This Week

Chapter 67 The Loneliness of This Week

Evelyn's POV

The originally noisy classroom instantly fell silent the moment I stepped in, as if someone had pressed the mute button.

All eyes focused on me, filled with fear, awe, and a hint of... distant avoidance, as if I were some kind of monster.

"Oh my god, she actually came to class..."

"Shh! Keep it down! Look at the earrings she's wearing - looks like that Phoenix gave her another gift."

"I told you they're in this together, both violent freaks."

"Stay away from her, don't get into trouble. Robert's hand was broken last night - who knows what he might do to us?"

Those whispers drifted into my ears in bits and pieces. It would be a lie to say it didn't hurt.

Several classmates who used to get along well with me now looked away or pretended to read their books, clearly not wanting to get involved in any trouble.

My fingers tightened around the insulated bag, and a bitter feeling welled up inside me.

Is this the final result? The victim ends up being isolated by everyone.

I found a seat in the corner and sat down. Suddenly, the classroom door was pushed open forcefully.

Celia walked in, holding a thick stack of books, her expression so serious it looked like something major had happened.

"Quiet!"

The classroom instantly fell silent. Celia turned around, her sharp gaze sweeping across the room before finally landing on me, lingering for a moment.

I looked up and met her eyes.

"I know that recently, some very bad comments have appeared on 'Nebula Chat.'"

She looked away and said coldly, her voice carrying suppressed anger, "Secret photos, rumors, cyberbullying... these behaviors seriously violate the academy's rules. The academy has made a decision."

She paused, raising her voice with undeniable authority, "Starting today, 'Nebula Chat' will introduce a real-name tracking system."

"All users posting content must go through the academy's real-name verification. Any malicious comments or invasion of others' privacy will be directly traced back to the individual and face appropriate disciplinary action. Serious offenders will be expelled immediately!"

"Additionally, the APP's review system will be fully upgraded. Any photos uploaded without the consent of the person involved are strictly prohibited!"

The classroom immediately erupted in discussion.

"Real-name tracking? Who's going to dare say anything anymore?"

"Looks like the academy is serious this time - probably because of what happened last night!"

I was stunned, not sure if I'd heard correctly!

Real-name tracking?

If this was true, it meant that those "killers" hiding behind their keyboards would have nowhere to hide anymore.

The person who posted the rumors, those who left vicious comments - they would all have to pay for their actions.

I looked up toward the window.

Sunlight was falling right on the window, carrying rays of hope.

Although my classmates' stares still made me uncomfortable, although Kane's violent methods still scared me, at least that malicious "Nebula Chat" was finally no longer a tool to hurt people at will.

I unconsciously touched the wing earring on my ear. My fingertips felt the cool touch, but there was a hint of warmth in my heart.

My mood didn't seem so bad anymore.

Perhaps Kane's methods were too violent, but they were also... pretty effective, weren't they?

This week passed surprisingly peacefully, with nothing happening.

Kane really kept his promise - or rather, he was indeed following the academy's confinement order.

Every morning, he would show up at my door right on time, holding steaming hot breakfast, his eyes carrying that careful flattery and deep affection.

He would walk me to the classroom door, watch me go in, then turn and leave, returning to that room where he was all alone.

He seemed to have returned to being the old Kane. I didn't see him get angry again, didn't see him lose control, and didn't hear any follow-up news about Robert.

But he was like a silent guardian, drawing a circle around my life in an almost obsessive way.

Sometimes I felt lonely, as if I'd been isolated from everyone, as if there was something about me that made them avoid me. When they saw me, they automatically made way.

The classmate who used to discuss potion formulas with me now only gave me a stiff smile before hurrying away.

"Hello, Grandpa."

After evening study hall ended, I hid on the balcony of my dorm and called Arthur.

Arthur's familiar laugh came through the phone, along with classical music playing on a radio in the background.

"Evelyn, just finished class? Are you tired?"

Arthur's voice was still kind and warm, bringing a ray of hope to my lonely life.

"No, Grandpa. The classes aren't tiring at all, I really like them."

I tried to make my voice sound lighter, even deliberately raising my pitch, "It's just... the coursework has been a bit heavy lately, everyone's busy reviewing."

"Really? What about Kane? Is he taking good care of you?"

Arthur teased, "If he dares treat you badly, you tell Grandpa, and Grandpa will teach him a lesson!"

Hearing this, my eyes got a bit moist. He hasn't bullied me - he's just protecting me too well!

"No, Grandpa."

I sniffled, forcing myself to continue, "He... he's very good to me. Really good."

"That's good then."

Arthur seemed relieved, "When two people are together, they need to be understanding of each other. Since you've chosen each other, you need to trust each other."

After hanging up, I leaned against the railing, looking at the twinkling stars in the night sky, my mind wandering.

Besides Arthur, the only thing that could respond to me was actually the academy.

Sometimes I would complain that I didn't like the clothes it picked, and the next day styles that perfectly matched my taste would be hanging there. Even when I made it difficult by asking it to find certain books for me, it would find them... as if it was letting me vent my emotions.

And the academy really did make comprehensive upgrades and monitoring of Nebula Chat. I didn't know who was doing all this behind the scenes, but the result was good.

That abyss that was once full of malice had finally been filled in.

Since I was alone most of the time, I started having a lot of free time to observe the people and things around me.

This observation led me to discover two very interesting things.

The first was about "everyone" at this academy.

Before, I only knew there were beastmen here, most commonly perhaps from the Lycan Clan and Avis Clan.

But this week's observations made me realize that the variety of magical creatures here was far richer than I'd imagined.
