Chapter 13

Chapter 13.

Jessica's freedom.

" Jessica, you have been here all this while? I have been looking for you all over the school campus but you were nowhere to be found" Bethel rushed to Jessica on the chair and sat beside her.

Bethel had been all over the school premises searching for Jessica, she just found her on the campus garden seated alone.

" I just have to be here, Bethel. I am going to be expelled" Jessica said and looked away.

" No, baby girl, you won't be expelled from the school" Bethel patted her shoulder for comfort as she cried like a baby.

" I am here to tell you that the quiz boards are now in the school and Prof. Ramson was looking for you" Bethel sneaked in as Jessica was crying.

" Quiz boards?" Jessica asked and cleaned up her wet nose.

" Yes, Jessica, but I don't think our school will join this year because I heard them saying that our school has a lot of poor performances in the previous quiz" Bethel pronounced unhappily.

Jessica sighed and said, "We won't fail again!"

" Are you sure about this, Jessica?" Bethel asked.

Jessica nodded, "Yes".

" Then let's move to the classroom," Bethel said and helped Jessica to her feet.

Jessica moved to the classroom but just as she entered, the whole class has begun to shout and throw things at her. She went to her seat and sat unhappily on her seat.

Miss Dorothy stepped into the classroom just then and said, " Jessica, follow me to the staff room for your expulsion you have been found guilty"

The whole class was so happy to hear that. They were clapping their hands in joy as Jessica stood up and moved towards Miss Dorothy. Jessica spared Hudson a glance at his seat and shook her head in disgrace and pain.

Jessica followed Miss Dorothy to the staff room in fear. She was thinking of committing suicide. She could not go like this back to her poor grandmother and little Caesar. She was at the brim of imploding and her uneven breath was the only evidence that she was alive.

The vice Chancellor, staff, and the quiz boards were having a meaningful discussion in the Senate building about the failure index of the school ahead of the forthcoming annual mathematics quiz in the City.

" I am sorry, we can't allow this school to continue in the forthcoming quiz, it's like a waste of money. We have spent a lot of money on this school to keep up with the standard but it is getting poorer in academics performance. This school may be closed in any distant time" The quiz board's manager, Kelven, said.

" Mr. Kelvin, we have tried our best as a teacher to raise the academic standard of the students but we seem not to understand where the mistake is coming from," Prof. Ramson said.

" Don't tell us that, Prof. Ramson. You are a mathematics professor, and I think the fault is coming from you. It's a shame for you not to be able to provide three students who could compete for your school, you should not even talk here" Another strong member of the board told Prof. Ramson.

" Well, we give this school three days to provide three students for the competition else we will dismiss our contract with the school," Mr. Kelvin said.

" We will do our best, Mr. Kelvin," The Vice Chancellor said and the board stepped out of the Senate building.

--------

Jessica could see the quiz board members stepping out from the Senate building with sullen looks. She knew they were not here for jokes and maybe what Bethel said was right.

Miss Dorothy entered the Senate building where the staff and the vice Chancellor were having a brief discussion over the forthcoming quiz.

" Yes, Miss Dorothy" The vice signaled at her to talk.

" I am here with the girl who caused a fight among students in the earlier hours of today," Miss Dorothy said.

" Good, bring her in" The vice Chancellor Said.

Jessica came into view with shaking legs, she clenched her hands together and moved towards them in tremble.

" Hello, young girl, a complaint got to us that you breed a fight between the students. Well, as our norms, we are expelling you right away from the school" the vice Chancellor of the school said.

" This is the girl, yes, this was the girl that answered three questions without using a paper or a calculator, I have searched for her all over the school" Prof. Ramson ran towards Jessica and hung his arm over her shoulder.

" What?" Everyone in the Senate House echoed.

Miss Dorathy's breath became hot and shame swarmed her. She never knew it would turn out like this. She had promised Sara and other billionaire students that she would send Jessica away from the school but presently she was poignant over Prof. Ramson's statement.

" That can't be possible, Prof. Ramson. Don't you hear about the crime she committed? She caused a fight among the students and you are saying she answered three mathematics questions" Miss Dorothy screamed at Prof. Ramson.

" What's the gain if the principal sends out the best student from the school just because she caused a fight among dullards who claim they came from the billionaire home?" Prof. Ramson said and dashed his hands to the air before he continued, "Don't you see the quiz boards on your way as you were coming in? They have promised to close down our school and dismiss their contract with us if we fail to provide three students for the quiz and you are here saying something else"

" Young girl, what's your name?" Vice Chancellor asked.

" My name is Jessica Anderson," Jessica said.

" You heard Prof. Ramson, are you capable in mathematics, I mean can you stand in for us in the quiz competition?" Vice Chancellor asked.

" Yes, sir, I am capable!" Jessica said and nodded.

" Well, this is my judgment. I will suspend your expulsion until the end of the quiz, then I will know whether to pardon you as Prof. Ramson said or send you away from the school" The vice Chancellor Said.

" Thank you, sir," Jessica said and redressed in happiness.

" Don't thank me yet" The vice Chancellor Said and dismissed her back to her class.
