Epilogue

Dheer's POV:

"Ok, sleep now. I found Dharma's parents," I said.

"What? Really?"

"Yes, but I found only his dad's office address. I will try to find the house address."

"I hope you will find his parents before his birthday. Only then we can surprise him," Mitra said.

"Yeah, sure, I will find out soon," I said and went to serve dinner myself.

But as usual, my loving wife came to the dining hall.

"I will serve myself, sweetheart. You take rest."

"Ha, you will serve yourself very little. It spoils your health. You should eat more," Mitra said, serving food to me.

"Did you have your dinner?"

"Yes, just because of your call. Why are you calling me and messaging me daily to have lunch and dinner?"

"Because you are not taking care of your diet. Anyways within two days, I will take a long leave, and then I can take care of you and share your responsibility towards our family."

"Dheer, this is too much. I can handle it with the help of maids. You no need to take leave. You love your job, and you are so much attached to it. The public in this city feels happy and safe just because of you. You are their courage. They feel whatever danger may come up, DCP Dheer will save them. So, please don't limit yourself to our family. If I need help, I will surely tell you, and then you can take leave for that day," She said.

"No, Mitra, I love my duty, but I love you too. I can't see you spoiling your health. Now no more arguments, I will take leave. If any emergency comes up, I will join in duty immediately," I said, convincing her.

Finally, she nodded. These days my heart is getting more attached to her apart from my duty. I want to take care of her and fulfil all her wishes during her pregnancy. After all, she is bearing my heir, and it's my responsibility to give her everything she wants and keep her happy.

I took leave. I shared her responsibility for looking after my parents. She loved my company. I am doing everything that makes her happy. Mom, too, recovered, and we shifted dad to home. Slowly dad is back to senses and recognized us but cannot do any work by himself due to drugs effect on his body.

As mom is taking care of dad, we decided to go to Dharma's dad's office. We went there, and Mitra looked at me shockingly.

"What happened to you, Mitra?"

"This is the office where Ganesh uncle had worked."

"Ganesh, uncle? Who is he?" I asked "Rajat's father," she said, and my mind went blank.

Because Dharma's father's name is also Ganesh, I asked her to stay there and went inside the office. I enquired about Dharma's address. I got shocked knowing that Dharma is none other than Rajat. We went back home. I didn't say anything to Mitra.

"Dheer, did you find their address?" She asked with curiosity.

"Ha," I answered.

"Wow, great. Then let's go to them. Dharma will be so happy," she said.

"We shall go later," I replied "No, Dheer, please let's go now. Tomorrow is his birthday," she said, catching my arm, making me get up from the bed.

"Shut up, Mitra. If I say no, it means there is a reason. Don't behave like a child," I yelled at her unintentionally.

Realizing that I yelled at her, I looked at her. She had tears in her eyes. Shut, am I mad? Why did I yell at her? I immediately made her sit beside me and wiped her tears.

"Sorry Mitra, I didn't mean to shout at you. Sorry" I said, holding my ears.

She smiled, seeing my cute gestures, and removed my hands from ears.

"Why are you angry at once?"

"Mitra, I will tell you something; please don't get tensed," I said, and she nodded.

"Dharma is Rajat," I said, hugging her from side to comfort her.

"What?" She asked shockingly.

"Yeah, I'm a little bit upset. He's your first husband..."

She glared at me.

"I didn't mean it, Mitra; actually, I mean you may feel uncomfortable to know this," I tried to convince.

She left to the balcony without listening to me. How to convince her now? I mean, for the first time, I have fallen in trouble by slipping my tongue. What if he is her first husband? After all, she loves me. She is my wife now. Why did I say that to her? The stupid tongue talks useless words. I went to my darling wife to convince.

"I am sorry, baby," I whispered.

"Don't talk to me, Mr. DCP," she said seriously.

What the hell my profession had to do in this matter. Why is she calling me as DCP and not as Dheer?

"Sweetheart, please listen to me."

"I said I don't want to talk to you," she said again.

"Mitra, I just felt a bit possessive towards you, knowing that Dharma is Rajat. But I know well that you love me a lot and Dharma love Asha. For a few seconds, I just became a normal husband who will be too possessive towards his wife. But nothing more than that. I love you so much. If you didn't talk to me, how can I bear? Please talk to me, sweety," I said, and she turned towards me.

I am trying to read her expressions, but she placed her lips on mine.

"I love you, Dheer," she said.

"I love you too," I said, hugging her.

I decided to save her by myself next time. I didn't want Dharma to save her again and again. God, why am I feeling this jealous of their bonding? They are good friends, and they didn't know this truth till now. Shut; I should control my stupid mind to block such immature and stupid thoughts.

"Mitra, tomorrow we will go to your village to bring Dharma's parents. In the evening, we can surprise him," I said, and she nodded.

"I don't know how Asha and Dharma if they knew this. Will they feel uncomfortable to be our friends?" She asked innocently.

"No, Mitra, they are matured enough to deal with relationships perfectly," I said "I didn't know why, but I can't leave Dharma's friendship. He is a great friend," she said, leaning on my shoulder.

"Don't worry, that situation never comes to you," I assured her.

The next day we went to Dharma's parents and informed about him. We brought them to his birthday party. Dharma looked at us and then his parents.

"Mom, dad," he said slowly.

He hugged them. We understood that he knew about them already.

"Thank you for the surprise, Dheer, and Mitra," he said.

"We are sorry for misunderstanding you many times," we both said in unison.

"Come on, guys, I never mind those things. Misunderstandings are common in any relationship. You are my friends, and I never mind all that," he said, smiling.

We hugged each other, remembering college days. We both had few teardrops in our eyes as we missed Jay and Kali.

"Let me join you guys," we heard a voice and looked at that side. It's Geetha.

"Group hug?" She suggested, and we had it "I am glad you both reunited," Geetha said.

"Dharma, I am sorry for slapping you," Mitra said, bending her head.

"It's ok, Mitra. Actually, on that day, someone tried to shoot Dheer on the forehead. I saw that person from the window of that apartment. I don't have time to alert Dheer. So, I shot him on the leg and shoulder to make him fall on the ground and miss the bullet shot by that criminal. He was caught later and was encountered"

We enjoyed the party together. Asha joined us after talking to her in-laws and seeing to their needs. We went home. Dharma shared with us how he became a home minister.

He met a criminal in jail who is a close associate of Vishwanath, Health Minister. After release, he met Vishwanath and acted as if he changed and want to join his team. He slowly became close to him by arranging a fake firing in the name of the opposition party on Vishwanath and getting injured while saving him. This made the minister trust Dharma, and slowly he became Home Minister.

One year later…

"Dheer, how long will you take to prepare for breakfast? At least boil some milk and give it to me; my baby is hungry" Mitra started shouting at me.

"I'm cooking. Why can't you wait a little bit?" I asked her.

"I only get a chance to shout at you this one day. For the remaining six days, you'll be shouting at me saying I am late cooking food," she said, pouting.

"Asha, so you are trying to take revenge on me?" I said and turned towards her, keeping stove at a simmer.

I went towards her, and she tried to move away. I pinned her to the wall. I kissed her cheeks. Then her lips and neck. I buried my face in her neck, inhaling her sweet fragrance. I placed a few kisses there, and I saw her shivering. Even after two years of marriage, I still had the same effect on her, which I had in our marriage's initial days. I teased her more by touching her back.

"Dh…eer, plea...se...leave... Mom...may...come," she said.

"Then never disturb me while cooking," I said, slowly still holding her in my arms.

I removed her loose hairs from shoulders and kissed there. She pushed me away and tried to escape with blushing. Her face already turned so red, making me crazier. I held her and kissed her lips to my satisfaction. She responded to me and encircled my neck with her both hands.

"You are so beautiful, baby," I said.

"Do you feel I am beautiful even after two years of our marriage?"

"Till my last day, I feel you are so beautiful. Even if we grow older and your hair becomes grey, skin loosens, teeth fall, still, I feel you are beautiful, and I will kiss you with all my love even at that time," I said, kissing her again.

She pouted and smiled.

"I love you so much, Dheer. I am fortunate to get married to you. I never thought I would be this happy in my life. You are my happiness and my everything. Without you, I can't live at all," she said, hugging me.

"I love you too. You are the only one who understood me well. You never showed anger at me for not giving you time, prioritizing nation over you, for showing case frustration on you a few times though you do nothing wrong. You always supported me in everything. You are the perfect wife to me," I said, smiling.

"If you both finish your lovely confessions, please prepare food for us; we are hungry."

I broke the hug and looked there. Nandu stood there, smiling at us. Dad recovered, and mom brought Nandu to our home, accepting her as a daughter. We see matches for her. Nandu plays her role so well. I mean, part of every younger sister who is to fight with her brother and tease him. She does that so well. She will be ever ready to tease Dharma and me whenever possible. As Dharma had no sisters, Dharma loves Nandu a lot and pampers her as if she is a kid.

I am preparing food, and soon Dharma, dad, and Dharma's dad joined me in preparing food. Every Sunday, we started preparing food for our family. Dharma with his family and Geetha joins us every Sunday. Now Dharma's parents are staying with them.

After breakfast, Dharma and I settled in the lane.

"Dheer, this is a severe case. You should deal with them. But be very careful," Dharma said, giving me a file.

"Team whom I trust will join you soon. Keep the entire mission as a secret," Dharma said.

"Sure," I said, and we ended topic seeing Mitra and Asha coming to us.

"Hey, you people, please take care of the children; we are going shopping," Asha said to us.

Mitra and Asha gave babies to us.

"Asha, we are discussing something important. You can go later for shopping," Dharma said without taking a child from Asha.

"Oh, we are sorry," Mitra said, looking at me.

I smiled at her and took the baby.

"If you want, you can go shopping, Mitra. I'll take care of the baby," I said, and Dharma glared at me, making me laugh.

He tried to take the child from Asha. But Asha left, taking the child with her and giving Dharma a serious expression. Mitra too left. I was playing with my child.

"Stupid, you booked me near Asha. I need to convince her now," Dharma said.

"All the best. I can't say no to anything Mitra asks me," I said.

Dharma and I went inside. Dharma tried to convince Asha. But, Asha ignored him.

"Ok, I will take you shopping and will buy whatever you want," he said.

"No need, I am working. I can buy whatever I want with my salary," she answered.

"I am sorry, Asha. We were discussing something important," Dharma said.

"Then how is it okay for Dheer to take the child?"

"Because he's a lovesick puppy. He always chants 'Mitra, Mitra.' He's mad," he said, cursing me.

"Hello, fight yourself. Don't say a word against my Dheer, Mr. Dharma," Mitra warned him seriously.

I smiled, hearing her warning. She loved me so much. Dharma stopped requesting his love and sat beside me.

"Don't worry, Dharma. Leave it," I said.

"Shut up, stupid. Because of you, Asha does not believe my words," he scolded me.

Asha came with tea, and Mitra brought snacks. Asha gave tea to everyone except Dharma.

"Dheer, I am leaving. I have some work to do," he said earnestly, getting up from the sofa.

I thought that his anger had reached its peak. Asha looked at him for a few minutes.

"You told me yesterday that you wanted to quit tea. That's why I didn't give it to you. I'm preparing coffee for you," she said.

Dharma never changed. He was quick to anger. He snatched the cup from her hand and signalled for her to come with him. They both went to the garden.

"Dheer, will they fight again?" Mitra asked me.

"I don't think so. They've been like this since our college days."

"What if he scolds Asha for dragging out the issue?"

"Don't worry, he's never had the guts. If I know him well, by now, he's pacifying Asha by showering her with many gifts and promises," I said.

We went to the garden because Mitra was tense, thinking they might fight. But, the scene surprised her. Dharma slept in Asha's lap, and she was caressing her hair. I looked at Mitra. She smiled.

"Shall we respect their privacy?" I said, and we both left.

Later we went shopping together and by nightfall I was reading a case file. Mitra came into the room.

"I really enjoyed today. A lot…"

"Mitra, I'm reading an important file, and you're talking about unnecessary things."

"Sorry, my dear hubby, I didn't notice. Ok, I won't disturb you. If you need tea or anything, please wake me up. I will sleep now," she said, lying on the bed.

"Mitra, you're already tired with the baby and work. If you have energy, please fill a flask with tea and sleep. I will drink it when I need it."

"No, it's not good to drink stale tea. Wake me up, and I will make tea for you."

"Sweetheart, I will make it by myself. Now sleep, darling," I said "Ok fine. Dheer, tomorrow I am going on a mission. I will be away from home for a week. Can you please take care of the baby?"

"Sure," I said, and she slept.

When I had finished reading the file, I looked at Mitra and the baby. I kissed our baby and Mitra. She hugged me and slept in my arms.

Life had thrown us many twists and turns. But now we were happy.

Still, I was about to start a new case, which would be filled with many risks. And Mitra, too, was starting a new mission. Maybe my gun and her pen would never stop inviting risks. But we enjoyed the journey too much. I smiled and took her into my arms before dozing off.

The next day, we would go out and deal with our new cases, inviting many new challenges.
