Chapter 427 Maverick, Are You Jealous?

'Do you think I am here only to beg a meal?'

Zane thought impatiently, 'You must be insulting me.'

Gabriel's words did not comfort Zane.

Zane asked, "Are you scared of Maverick? I understood that you wanted to avoid being targeted by Lamont Group when it was still there, but now, what is there to fear about Maverick? He's trying to make a comeback. Aren't you worried that he'll come to you sooner or later? Don't tell me you think Maverick hadn't taken action against you because he has let go of the past. It's just because he can't spare the time right now. Based on my understanding of him, he would take revenge as long as he's got a chance."

Zane knocked twice on the armrest of the wheelchair. What he said sounded alarming, but Gabriel had no expression on his face. Zane was not sure if Gabriel was pretending. Anyway, Zane did not believe that Gabriel had not thought about that himself.

After a short while, Gabriel said, "If Maverick intends to make things difficult for the Croke family, the Croke family deserves it. I'm not afraid of his revenge. What will be, will be. But we did not do anything wrong. Why do we have to act like a coward? Why do we have to think so much about it right now and even think about leaving no chance for his revival? The Croke family was only practicing the law of the jungle: Eat or be eaten. If we did not do that, there would be others doing the same thing."

"Can't you see what happened to the Rice family and the Kahl family?" Zane had the urge to tear off Gabriel's mask. "Although you weren't the one in charge of the Croke family back then, aren't you enjoying what was stolen from the Waller family?"

"Don't you get what I've said? Even if we didn't do anything, the Waller family would still be robbed by the other families. That's what differentiates the Croke family from the other three families. Therefore, Maverick took revenge on them one by one but left the Croke family untouched. I'd stay sensible and avoid conflict with him. Zane, the grudge between you and Maverick is your family's matter. I'm not like the old bastards of the Rice family and the Kahl family. They were too afraid, and thus they brought about their destruction in the end."

The implication was that Gabriel was not afraid at all.

He believed that Maverick would need to think carefully before trying to go against him.

However, in Gabriel's opinion, Maverick would not be so stupid, and in City C, a life-and-death competition was not the only option.

Gabriel thought Zane was unreasonable and desperate, but he did not put it bluntly because he did not want to provoke an irrational person.

The competition was a competition. If they thought Maverick could not dwell on his failure, they had underestimated him.

Gabriel knew that Zane would not be persuaded. It was already a miracle that the chaotic Lamont family could produce an heir like Maverick. Even if Zane had the chance to steer the Lamont family, it would not last long. His way of thinking had determined his future achievements.

Zane felt Gabriel was suggesting that he was also bringing about his destruction like the Rice family and the Kahl family. His face darkened with hostility, and the atmosphere became stiff and awkward.

"Are you feeling unwilling, Mr. Zane? I can understand you. Back then, Lamont Group must have offered a very high price. You must have paid an even higher price to defeat Lamont Group. I would also have thought it was a trap if I were you."

At this time, the waiter came to serve the dishes. Gabriel did not continue.

The unfinished sentence was worth thinking over.

Zane had thought Maverick's bid was to lure him into the trap, but he had no evidence, and Lamont Group had gone bankrupt. Now, the lawsuit was giving him a headache. Hearing Gabriel's words, Zane's gaze became cold.

Gabriel's eyes flashed with a trace of coldness.

He suspected that Zane was trying to use him to attack Maverick.

However, he would like to watch the two brothers fighting each other.

Gabriel continued casually, "Byron bought a lot of land in the west of the city. However, he had already set his eyes on that place at the beginning of the year. I don't believe that he was not informed of some internal information. The changes might not occur as suddenly as we saw. It's just you didn't know."

...

Everly hurried out of the restaurant and immediately got into the car.

Sofia pretended to know nothing and asked with concern, "Have you found your thing?"

"Yeah, I found it. I asked the waiter to help me. It fell into the gap, so it took me a while to get it out."

Everly did not realize the more she said, the more holes in her story. She would not have said so much to explain her behaviors if she was not lying. Sofia was now sure that Everly was not there to look for anything.

After sending Sofia away, Everly parked the car on the roadside and called Maverick.

"I saw Zane just now. He was eating with Gabriel."

Maverick raised his eyebrows. As far as he knew about Gabriel, Zane was probably disappointed. "It seems Zane must have come to a dead end."

He must have been forced to the point that he had no choice but to ask for help from someone who did not want to get involved.

Although Zane had pocketed much of the revenue of Lamont Group all these years, the land-buying case must have emptied his wallet and used up the investment he got. Those in Italy might not know about the changes in the situation here. How could Zane tell them the truth? He must be trying his best to make everything seem normal.

Maverick thought that he should offer the Kamo family a favor.

"Where are you now? Have you had dinner?" Maverick asked.

He was going to have dinner with her, but it was a little late now.

Everly said, "I've already finished. I just had it with Sofia."

Sofia, again.

Sofia had appeared by Everly's side frequently these days. Everly had a good impression of her, but Maverick had a faint feeling that something was wrong.

He was unsure if his uneasiness was related to his possessiveness. He did not want Everly to feel that she did not even have the freedom to make friends and could only center around him. That would scare Everly.

"Babe, you seemed to be having fun with her the past few days."

Maverick's tone sounded like a complaint.

"Maverick, are you jealous?" Everly laughed.

"Yes."

Maverick confessed.

"But we meet every night."

"It's not enough. I want to be with you all the time."

Everly took it as Maverick saying sweet words and did not think much. Every woman would feel happy knowing that her man was missing her. "You haven't eaten yet, have you? Would you like to go home for dinner or let me pack some food for you?"

"Home."

Just as Maverick hung up, Zane called.

Zane asked him, "You set me up, didn't you?"

Maverick did not deny it, "You took the bait yourself. What? Can't afford to lose?"

Zane's breath became rough. Maverick could think of Zane's gloomy face on the other end of the line.

Zane took advantage of the time when Maverick was not in the country to win the bid. How could he blame Maverick for setting him up?

There were not so many good things in the world. You could not blame others if you suffer losses for your bad decisions.

Maverick did not intend to do anything to Zane at the very beginning. He was just protecting himself from a mad dog chasing behind him.

If Zane did not participate in the bid, it would not affect Maverick. Lamont Group would still go bankrupt, and the case would still be suspended.

Zane shouldn't have bid for the contract.
