Revelations in the Kitchen
Revelations in the Kitchen
I watched as Paige's eyes lit up at the mention of Peanut Butter Puffs. The way her excitement radiated was infectious, and it brought a smile to my face. As we made our way toward the kitchen, I felt a surge of warmth in my chest. Despite the tensions of the pack and the unease that had plagued me since yesterday, being with her felt right.
The kitchen was bustling with activity. A few pack members were gathered around the large island, chatting and preparing snacks for the evening's festivities. I felt a mix of pride and protectiveness as I led Paige through the doorway, my hand resting gently on her lower back.
“Look who finally decided to join us!” one of the she-wolves called out, her voice playful. “Did you lock her up in your room all day, Nyte?”
I shot her a warning glare, but I could see the humor in her eyes. “Just taking precautions,” I replied, keeping my tone light. “You know how it is with a pregnant mate—gotta keep her safe.”
The room went quiet for a moment, all eyes on Paige. I could see the curiosity and surprise flicker across their faces. The news of our bond had spread quickly within the pack, but I had hoped to keep some details private for now.
Paige, ever the trooper, smiled brightly and waved. “Hey, everyone! I’m just here for some cereal.”
A few of the pack members chuckled, and the tension eased as conversation resumed. I felt a sense of relief wash over me. I didn’t want her to feel like an outsider, especially not in this place that was supposed to feel like home.
“Cereal is in the pantry, right there,” I said, pointing to the large wooden door. “Help yourself. I’ll grab a couple of bowls.”
Paige nodded and headed over to the pantry while I retrieved the bowls from the cupboard. As I turned back to her, I noticed she was inspecting the various boxes of cereal, her brow furrowed in concentration.
“Do you have a favorite?” I asked, walking up beside her.
“Honestly? I’m a sucker for anything with sugar in it,” she replied with a grin, tossing a box of colorful cereal back onto the shelf. “But Peanut Butter Puffs sound perfect right now.”
I chuckled, watching her excitement as she grabbed the box and held it up triumphantly. “Then that’s what you’ll have!”
As I poured the cereal into the bowls, I caught sight of a few pack members casting glances our way. Some were curious, others were cautious. I could feel the weight of their stares, the unspoken questions about our bond lingering in the air.
“Here you go,” I said, handing her a bowl filled to the brim with the sugary goodness. “Enjoy.”
“Thanks!” Paige beamed, taking a spoonful and savoring the first bite. “Mmm! This is amazing!”
I smiled at her enthusiasm, enjoying the sight of her relishing the small moment. It was a reminder of how simple joys could bring happiness, even amid uncertainty.
As we settled at a small table in the corner of the kitchen, I leaned back in my chair, observing the pack members around us. Their laughter and camaraderie brought warmth to the space, and for a fleeting moment, I felt a sense of normalcy.
“Do you ever think about what it would be like to be part of the pack?” I asked, breaking the comfortable silence between us.
Paige looked up from her bowl, her expression thoughtful. “Honestly? I’ve considered it. I mean, I want to be part of your world, Nyte. But I worry about how they see me. Being a witch in a pack of werewolves can be… complicated.”
“Complicated is putting it lightly,” I admitted, leaning forward. “But you have to remember that you’re not just any witch. You’re my mate, and that gives you a kind of power that they can’t ignore.”
Her eyes searched mine, a mix of determination and uncertainty swirling within them. “I want to be accepted. I want to be part of this pack, not just as your mate but as someone who contributes—who belongs.”
“You already belong,” I said firmly, reaching across the table to take her hand. “You have no idea how much you’ve changed things for me. You’ve made me see the world differently, and I know the pack will come to see that too.”
The warmth in her gaze made my heart swell. “I hope so. I want to be here for you and the pack, but I also don’t want to force anything. I want them to accept me for who I am, not just because I’m with you.”
“Give it time,” I reassured her, squeezing her hand gently. “You’ll find your place, and I’ll make sure they recognize your worth.”
As we finished our cereal, the atmosphere in the kitchen shifted again. The pack was gearing up for the night’s run, and the energy was palpable. Laughter and howls filled the air as members began to shift or prepare for their transformations.
“I guess it’s almost time,” Paige said, glancing outside where the moon hung high in the sky, casting a silver glow over everything.
I nodded, my protective instincts flaring again. “Are you ready for this?”
“More than ever,” she replied, a spark of determination lighting her eyes. “I want to be part of the pack, and I want to experience everything that comes with it.”
“Then let’s go,” I said, standing up and offering my hand. “Stay close to me, and I promise you’ll be safe.”
As we moved toward the door, I could feel the excitement building within me. Tonight was going to be different. With Paige by my side, I could face anything the pack threw at us. Together, we would navigate the chaos of the full moon and whatever challenges lay ahead. And I would ensure that she knew she belonged—not just to me but to the pack as well.
