Chapter 263 Chapter 263

Hailey's POV.

‘Take his empire’

How was he going to take his empire? How certain was Luca that he was going to kill Damien?

I glanced at Damien arching my brows as I watched him lost in thoughts. It wasn't just an empty threat to him. Luca had caused great havoc and overlooking him was being careless at this point.

“What's Luca planning to do?” Damien asked with a cold voice.

“I don't know,” Vincent answered, his tone flat.

His scream pierced through the air as Damien stroked him hard with his whip. He wiggled on his rope and sunk his teeth down his lower lips.

“I'm telling the truth. I don't know what…”

“That's not an option, Vincent,” Damien pounced forward, grabbing his neck. “You provided Morellis all the information he needed about me. You caused the death of my first wife and almost took the second. I'll be damned if you think I'm taking no for an answer.”

His fingers tightened on his neck, the subtle snapping sound making my heart race in fear. He wasn't going to kill him in cold blood, was he? I receded a step and glanced at Lorenzo and Kai, thinking they would say something, but they looked like they were wishing that they were the ones in Damien's position.

“Ok… okay…alright. I'll tell you what I know.” Vincent t wheezed, his voice barely audible.

“Damien,” I called softly.

He dropped his hands and glanced back at me, his breath loud and fiery. He turned back at Vincent and clamped his fist. “Talk.” He commanded.

“Luca has proven himself to his father. The raids he had alone without his father was to prove to his father that he is more capable of taking charge of his father's empire than his cousin.” He coughed and took a deep breath. “All the operation he has done so far is a strategic power move to convince his father that he is worthy of the inheritance.”

“A few months ago, he was tasked with killing you, but he hasn't been able to achieve it so far. That's the only problem he has so far. I don't know his plan of achieving that, but he is planning on another strike again.” he continued.

“So in essence” Lorenzo took a step into the dim spotlight. “Luca's aim is to kill our boss and make the Morellis family the biggest in the chain?”

“If you put it like that, then yes, that is his goal,”

The room turned awfully quiet as we all exchanged glances in the room. The plot against Damien was far stretched than we thought. How could it have skipped our mind? For a while, we all thought Luca was just obeying commands of his father and hunting after us, but apparently, he had a motive behind it.

“Damn little shit,” Damien cussed in his head.

“And you've been working hand in hand with him all this while, huh?” Lorenzo fired. “You hate our boss that much, you ungrateful piece of shit?” Lorenzo swung a punch in his guts and he grunted in pain.

I looked around the tense room, pursing my lips through the muffled groans, the tapping shoes, moving eyes, and tensive movement.

Nothing else could be done if we sulked around and chipped the blame at the closest person. We had to recognize that we had put a stop to his plans. I moved forward again, taking a relaxed breath and clasping my hands backwards.

“Why were you in that lounge?” I asked. The three men suddenly pumped their shoulders, eyes moving in my direction. “It's not like you to hide in plain sight or even think of crashing in a place that doesn't meet your standards of security and stealth,”

Vincent was quiet for a second but as Kai snapped his finger, he flinched and raised his eyes to look at me. “I was hiding…. I was hiding from the government.” He whispered in shame.

I couldn't help but foster a warm smile. Of course he was. Sarah made good on her word and she was tracking and investigating the hell out of Anthony Morellis. It was only a matter of time before they found out that ‘Vinicious Sanchez' was Vincent and he was a crooked criminal, a notorious one.

“The police got all of you hiding behind the curtains, huh,” I chuckled lightly. “The news this morning stated they have rounded up a few alibis of Anthony, they've also confiscated some properties.”

I moved closer and looked in his eyes. “You are scared of what they are going to do to you, you coward,” I spat out.

His nerves were disgusting to me. He plotted Elena's death, he tried to kill me and my baby, but somehow, he was afraid of having his life taken. Only a bastard and a wicked soul takes that route, and sadly he was both of them.

“You'll pay for your crimes, Vincent. There is no escaping it.” I continued.

“Please, please don't,” he begged. “You can't let them get me. I can help you. I can give you everything… anything you need.” He begged with a desperate tone. “Luca. I can help you track him. He is Awol but if I get in the field I can figure out…”

“So you can stab us in the back again? Yeah, hard pass.” Lorenzo cut in. “We aren't helping you. You should be grateful that you made it this far.” He fired.

He wasn't wrong. Earlier on, I thought they'd come back with the news that they killed Vincent on sight. I was worried about that, worried that they would lead themselves into trouble’s doorstep again. But when they showed up with an unrecognizable Vincent I knew I had to be here. I needed to be present.

“No, you don't understand. I can help you. I can tell you secrets about his…”

“Enough!” Damien thundered, stretching his whip as he trudged forward.

He wrapped the whip around his as Vincent winced and cried for help in a whisper. His eyes begged for sympathy, one that he was unable to show if the case was reversed.

“Wh…what are you doing?” I asked.

“What I should have done a long time ago.” He replied, tightening the whip around his neck.

I gasped in shock covering my mouth with my hands as I hurried back and shook my head.

“No, stop it. Nobody's killing anyone today.” I screamed in fright.

I wasn't ready to watch Damien kill him. He paused and stole a glance at me. “What are you on about? You knew I was going to do this when you begged to tag along. You don't have to stay here and watch the process, you can leave if you want to,”

“I'm not going anywhere, and I am not watching you take a life with your bare hands.” I opposed.

“Hailey, now's not the time,” he gruffed.

“I mean it, Damien. Stop it,” I growled at the top of my voice, stretching my hands for him to wait and listen to me.
