Chapter 255 Chapter 255

Chapter 255 Chapter 255

Damien's POV.

“She did it,” Marco reported with glee. “You should have seen her. She got us on edge. She looked crazy when she pointed the gun to her head, I could have sworn she'd pull the trigger. But she didn't, she even got this detective called Sarah to listen to her. They agreed to stop the attacks on you and pull down the search. We are no longer wanted for now, but I can't say the same for Anthony and his minions.”

It was incredible hearing it from Marco. The things he said intrigued me, I was bewildered. Hailey went overboard, and to think she tried to kill herself.

Hearing the reports felt like a weight had been lifted off my chest. Part of my reason for living in hiding was because of the government, I had nothing else to fight for, my empire was struggling and trying to multitask was going to cripple me, but she had pulled a weight for me. Now I could focus on Morellis and Vincent.

“Good job, Marco.” I stroked his shoulder. “Honestly, I didn't believe that this was going to work but you proved me wrong.”

“You should have Hailey to thank, she did all the work,” he nodded. I tucked my hands to myself, tapping my feet on the floor. “I will,” I said in my head.

“Damien, Damien,” Amaris called as she walked in on us. She seemed flustered but she quickly covered up with a smile. “Hey, I've been looking all over for you,”

“I'm right here,” I said with a straight face. Seeing her back in my life after decades felt forced. She smiled every time and tried to be touchy but it all felt weird to me, especially when I had outgrown her influence and history in my life.

She wasn't the same lady my heart beated for before I met Elena. She was just some lady,a lady who reported that she had lost everything and was about to live in the slums of Italy before she stumbled into my mother. And of course, my mother thought it would be a good idea to bring her back here and I would magically fall in love.

It was sick. But it was weirder that she agreed to all of this, and tried to get my attention.

“Could you excuse us?” She smiled at Marco and he left right way.

“So… I'm guessing you had a long day,” she smiled, swirling her hair. “I should fix tea for you,”

“No, you don't have to.”

“It won't waste time,” she persisted.

“I said no!” I forced out.

She inhaled and bit down on her lower lips, making the room feel awkward.

“I don't feel like drinking tea or taking anything at all,” I clarified.

Her smile appeared on her face again, this time seductive and tight. She moved closer, placing her arms on my chest.

“I understand, Damien.” She looked up and trailed her hands to my neck. “The chandelier looks beautiful. Where did you import it from?”

“Japan,” I replied.

“Japan?” She faked an interested look. “No, you didn't. Remember when we made this fake promise that we would go skiing in Japan?”

I thought to myself for a while until I gave up. “I don't think I do,”

“Come on, you should. We went on vacation to Niagara Falls. I lost an earring and I couldn't find it, so you tried to find it and make me feel better but when you couldn't, you…”

“I made you think of a country that popped into your head,” I completed with a smile. I remembered all of a sudden. Back when life wasn't so tough, before I took over and life got real serious for me.

“I said Japan and you asked me why I said Japan,”

“And you said kimonos,”

We laughed so hard that I didn't feel her hands resting on my shoulder. “You said you can't ski with a kimono on and I told that we don't have to worry about that now,”

“You remembered that. I had almost forgotten.” I shook my head.

“I keep all our moments treasured,” she uttered, leaning her face.

Her eyes slowly blinked as her smile widened. I froze as she drew closer, her lavender scent overshadowing my nose.

“Those were the best…”

“Hhmm Hhhmmm,” Lorenzo cleared his throat, prompting me to pull away with a heavy breath.

Amaris seemed angry but it faded off as she turned to face Lorenzo. She locked eyes with him and bowed her head.

“Forgive me for disturbing you, Boss, but your attention is needed,”

I adjusted my shirt and swooped my hair backwards, then taking a deep breath and exhaling heavily. “Okay, what's it this time?”

“Crane has decided to give us an answer.” He stated plainly.

“Really?” I asked in curiosity.

“Yes, we thought you'd like to see for yourself.” He replied, but his eyes glanced at Amaris.

“You made the right choice.”

I turned to Amaris, letting out a mouthful of air. “Make yourself comfortable and take all the time you need to find yourself a home in the city. I bet you would love it here,”

“I hope I do,” she muttered as I walked away.

As soon as she faded out of sight, Lorenzo looked back and gazed at me. “Mind if I ask, who's the lady? I haven't seen her around, not even once,”

I sighed, slapping my right arm against my forehead. “This is the work of my mother. She's playing Matchmaker,”

“Matchmaker!” He cracked a smile. “What an odd time to do. She must have been so disappointed when she realized that Hailey's back,”

Disappointment was an understatement but that wasn't the reason why he called my attention. We got to the room where Crane had been tortured to near death. Blood dripped from his open wounds, his eyes had swollen up, his lips and face bruised.

Moreover, Kai still looked unsatisfied, forced to stop by Lorenzo.

“Crane, elder Crane,” I circled him. “Consider yourself lucky. I wanted to have the pleasure of torturing the answers out of you but it seems Kai did a good job. You had been so eager to meet him earlier. I hope you enjoyed your meeting.”

“Pl… please let me go, I'll tell you anything you need, just let me go.” He begged.

“That depends, Crane. Where is Vincent?”

Kai crackled his fingers awaiting to punch him in the guts if the wrong answer slipped out of his mouth.

“West coast of the city. He gives me a call every weekend but I know he frequents a bar at the… the… at the…”

“At the what!” I roared, growing impatient.

“At the Brotica bar, every weekend. You'll find him there, trust me,”

Finally, we had his location. I would finally get to kill the pawn who worked for Morellis. But one problem was evident. The west coast of the city was overrun by Morellis gang. It wouldn't be an easy task capturing him, unless we wanted to kill him off instantly.

“We'll find a way,” Lorenzo voiced as though reading the thoughts off my head.

“I know we will,” I turned my back to leave.

“So what should we do to him, boss?” They chorused.

“For now,” I stopped. “We let him live. He'll struggle to stay alive. When we pull a raid tomorrow to find Vincent and if it turns out that he's lying, he'd pray to his maker that we should have killed him from the start.”

Crane whimpered as he shut his eyes in fear. But I couldn't wait to get Vincent in my hands, to squeeze the life out of him.
