Chapter 254 Chapter 254

Chapter 254 Chapter 254

Hailey's POV.

Leave my son? She had to be smoking crack to think I'd do something like that. To even think I'd listen to her was outrageous.

“I'm not doing that,” I stated.

“You said what? Are you talking back at me? After all you've done, after all you've put my family through? Have you gone mad?”

“Mrs Isabella, stop it,” the lady ran forward, stepping between us as she faced Isabella. “Calm down, you don't want to get upset again, we talked about this,”

They have had a chat? I thought to myself. So she knew who I was, she knew Damien had a son. She must be my replacement, Isabella would totally bank on her. I wasn't sure of it yet, but it hurt so bad. It burned hotter than the slap she gave me.

“No, she must leave,” Isabella thundered.

“Nobody's leaving,” Damien stepped in, ushering an uneasy silence in the room. For a while, I felt safe. He wanted me around, he couldn't watch me leave, but as his eyes locked with the lady, and I felt a piercing pain in my bowels.

“Amaris, could you excuse us?”

The lady smiled at Damien, then staring at me from head to toe with a calculative smirk. “You're welcome, nice to finally meet you” she said and walked out.

Sophia, Marco and Benita followed promptly and Isabella couldn't wait to paint me as an aggressor.

“You have some nerves to think you can talk back at me. Have you forgotten who I am? Your silly mother is not here to protect…”

“Don't you dare mention my mother. She did nothing to you,” I warned.

“That's enough, mum. Stop this, it's becoming too much.” Damien barked. “First, I told you I can handle things here but you went against my rules and did things your way, now you're causing trouble on your first day here,”

“What do you know, son? You are not thinking straight and I intend to fix what this slut broke in you?”

“She did not break anything, stop acting ridiculous, mother. I hardly felt her absence when she left,”

My jaw dropped open. It felt like a truck crashed against me and I could finally see the pearly gates of heaven.

‘He barely felt my absence?’ Where was this coming from? Could this be because of the lady. Who even was she? I thought Elena was the only woman in his life. What the fuck was going on?

Isabella exchanged glances between us and finally heaved a sigh. “Look here, Hailey. I don't appreciate your presence here. I never did. So if you have any dignity left, you'll leave before I force you to. You cannot be trusted, and I won't let you hurt my son and family a second time.”

She stormed out in spite of Damien calling her back. By the time he realized she wasn't coming back, he inhaled deeply and turned to me, gawking in silence.

“How was the meeting?” He finally asked after minutes had passed us by. I tried to reply with a straight tone, to pretend like I was okay, like I wasn't hurt by the things she said, by the strange woman who showed up from literally, nowhere.

“It was good. It went well, The police are ready to dig into Morellis.” My voice broke. “And you are no longer wanted by the government for now, so there's no need to hide and put the blame on me. You are free to roam around and…and… do whatever you want to do,” I tried to put on a smile but I knew I wasn't deceiving anyone. He could clearly see I was hurting but he wasn't doing anything to help.

“You can ask Marco how it went, he'll give you the informations.” I swallowed and sniffled aloud, blinking away my tears. “I'll head to my room, today has been a long day and I need to rest.”

I brushed past him in anger and clenched my fist. I was back to this life and I had just realized it. Isabella never liked me, she only tolerated me, now there was no reason for her to anymore.

“Wait!” He grabbed my left wrist, his voice deep. I stopped, but I didn't face him. I couldn't.

“Don't…” he paused and went mute from them on. He hesitated to speak and it hurt even more. It hurt that I caused this. I yanked my wrist out of his grip and continued on my way to my room.

As I slammed the door behind me, I hurled my shoe to the wall letting out a scream. Why did it hurt so much? Damien never confirmed anything with the lady.

Worse, my mother wasn't around to comfort me. I was on my own. I dug the grave, I had to lie on it.

A few minutes later, a knock drew my attention before I could let loose and cause a mess in my room.

“Benita,” I guessed, walking to open up. Even if it was Sophia by the door, it would be such a great relief.

“Benita, I am so sorry for…” I froze, moving back as the woman let herself in the moment I opened up. She shut the door behind her and turned around to study my room.

“Goodness, this is a much bigger room than I have. You must be one lucky girl,” she smiled.

“Uhh, excuse me. I don't remember giving you an invite to walk in,” I snarked at her.

“I don't need one, honey. You wouldn't let me in even if I was nice,” she replied flatly.

“Then get out!” I retorted.

She jerked back and chuckled afterwards. “Feisty, is that how we are gonna play it?”

She moved forward, her eyes darting menacingly as I moved back. “Trust me, you don't want to play that game. I lost before, I'm not gonna lose again,” she warned.

“I had to deal with Elena. I cried when I lost, but when I heard she died I was already married to an old fucking man that I never loved. Before I could get another chance to meet up with him, I heard the news that there was a new bitch in the picture,”

I crashed against the wall with nowhere else to move again. “And to think you have an heir already. Sophia's bad news alone, but a son. No, I'm kicking you out,”

A part of me liked her already. She wasn't trying to cuddle up to me and stab me in the back, she was putting out her feelings out there. And one thing I was already used to were ladies trying to put me in my place.

I stood up against Sophia, I stood up against Isabella, I even had to stand up against detective Sarah. I was raised for women like this and unfortunately, she was gonna have to lose a second time.

“Back off!” I pushed her and stepped away from the wall. “Let me make something clear here, Lady. You don't get to walk into my room and make demands like some snobby princess. You will respect me as a human and stay away from me.”

She gritted her teeth and stab her finger in the air. “You do not want to cross me, Hailey”

“Oh, but I want to.” I fired. “You are supposed to accept that you are nothing in his life, but here you are trying to force yourself back after years of separation. And you think I'm gonna let you bully me into achieving your goals,”

She moved back until her back was against the door. “I heartily accept your challenge, and if I actually lose, I'll take my son and leave. I won't be salty or linger around like a shadow. So get out of my room before I throw you out myself!”

I twisted the knob and hissed at her, watching her breathe hard in fear.
