CHAPTER TWO HUNDRED AND SIXTY : MY ETHAN’S BLOOD

CHAPTER TWO HUNDRED AND SIXTY : MY ETHAN’S BLOOD
It felt like a million needles piercing through me at once, each one tearing through my skin and sinking deeper into my bones.

The pain wasn’t just in my chest this time.

It was everywhere.

In my throat where another scream was lodged in refusing to tear out, hearing Jennifer shout for Ethan to let me go yet again.

But he only held tighter as another gun shot ripped through the air and she shot again.

“I said let her go!” Jennifer screamed, her voice far from human and completely deranged now.

“Please…please let me go, Ethan.

Please let me go,” I shouted, trying to move his hands away from mine.

I wanted to die, it was better to fall to my death than watch him being killed because of me.

But he only held me tighter, gasping for air loudly as his face scrunched up in pain.

He shook his head at me, his eyes glassy.

“What did I tell you in the past, Leah?

That even in death.

I’ll never let you go,” he gritted, as blood trailed down from the side of his lips.

And this time, he pulled even harder.

Just as another gun shot echoed in the air, and I screamed in pain.

One of Ethan’s hands slipped out of mine, pushing me further down.

But he held on fast.

He was weak, I knew.

I could see it in his eyes, and the way he barely held on.

Yet, he refused to let me go.

He was dying, yet he refused to let me go!

“If I cannot have you, Ethan.

Then nobody can,” Jennifer screamed.

And I knew she was about to shoot at him yet again.

“Please…” I begged.

“Hands in the air,” a loud voice boomed, from above, telling me the police had finally arrived.

“Leah!” I heard Killian’s voice call out.

And right then, Ethan pulled one last time using all of his strength as he dragged me up and over the edge.

And my body, it finally touched the hard ground of the roof top.

I jerked up, quickly moving to Ethan who laid at my side.

His face twisted in pain.

And the moment he sighted me, a smile broke out of his bloody lips.

“I told you, I’ll always protect you,” he whispered through his weak voice.

Tears trailed down my face as I shook my head.

His eyes drifted to something behind me and he smiled.

“It seems God answered my wish, Leah.

He let you survive,” he smiled, and I could see.

The happiness which gleamed in his eyes.

I heard voices of shouting and curses from behind along with a feminine scream, but I blurred them all out.

My brain still coming to terms that Ethan was bleeding out and dying before me, and I could do nothing.

I felt someone come to my side, but I did not look away from Ethan.

“Leah, he’s shot,” Killian said in shock, looking at Ethan’s pale face.

My head snapped up to him, as I whispered brokenly.

“Help him, Killian.

Please help him, else I’ll die alongside him.”

And I knew I meant every single word I said.

Killian shouted for an ambulance or something, but I’ve blocked his voice out of my mind by now.

My lungs forgot how to breathe.

My hands trembled uselessly as I watched life slip away from his beautiful eyes.

“Don’t close your eyes, Ethan.

Please don’t close them,” I screamed at him when I saw his gazes dropping.

His eyes opened, staring at me one last time, as his lips curled into a beautiful smile.

“I love you, Leah.

Always and forever,” he said softly through hard breath as his mouth failed him.

I shook my head, my entire body trembling as I held his face.

“No…no, no Ethan.

Don’t say that. Not now.

I know what you are doing and I won’t let that happen.

You cannot die okay!” I screamed at him in frustration.

But his smile only widened.

“You never told me you love me back after I said it Leah,” a heavy breath left him as he gasped for air.

My cries grew louder.

Praying and begging for the ambulance to get here quickly.

My hands were stained with blood.

Ethan’s blood.

My Ethan’s blood.

And I watched as the light slowly left his eyes.

And this time, even my prayers did not save him.

“I’m sorry, Leah,” the words barely left his lips before his eyes shut completely.

And right there, a brutal cry left my lips.

One of pain and so much sorrow.

Because I knew the man I loved.

The only man I ever loved and would ever love had left the world.

And he took my heart alongside him.

And I so badly wished he had taken me alongside him.
