CHAPTER TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY-FOUR : REVEAL
CHAPTER TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY-FOUR : REVEAL
I stared into deathly familiar blue eyes.
Straight but small pointed nose, high cheek bones and everything eerily similar to what I looked like and it made me tremble.
“What have you done, Jennifer?” I whispered.
“Why do you look like me!”
Her head crooked to the side, and there was something frightening about her.
Jennifer might have been deadly before.
But now….now she was terrifying.
Her lip curled into a crooked doll-like smile as she stared at me.
And then, she walked towards me slowly, moving closer with each step she took, with her gun still trained towards my forehead.
“What did I do?
What do you think, Leah?” She laughed, shaking her head slightly.
“I changed my face to yours, that’s what I did,” she smirked as she uttered those words.
And as if switched, her expression changed.
Her eyes sharpened as she snarled.
“You really had me fooled all this while, and I have to hand that over to you.
I really believed you were Aveline and not Leah,” she hissed bitterly, standing extremely close to me by now.
So close that if I took even a step back, I’ll only be moving closer to my death.
Because I was already standing eerily closer to the edge.
She moved her gun down closer to my face, as the tip burned through my skin, grazing it.
“I thought I had gotten rid of you, five years ago.
I actually thought you were dead.
But who knew you would play an even bigger trick on me,” she spat, her gun tracking down the strands of my hair in a deathly calm way.
“I left you alone, like you wanted.
I ran away to save myself and my children.
Why do you harbor such vendetta against me, Jennifer.
You wanted me to leave, and I did!” I gritted, my body shaking with the intensity of my anger.
Her eyes flared, and her other hand came to wrap around my throat before I could even blink.
“Stayed away?” She scoffed.
“I needed you dead, Leah.
Because even if you had ran to the outermost part of the earth, Ethan would have still come looking for you!” she spat.
“I did everything to keep him with me.
Every single thing.
You have no idea the lengths I went to for Ethan, the people I killed to make him stay with me.
And yet, the only thing he could see was you.
And you had done absolutely nothing for him,” she yelled, pushing me away as she stepped back.
But the gun in her hands never fell.
I could see it in her eyes clearly.
The way her iris looked everywhere and never settled on one place.
The way her hands trembled.
The dilation of her pupil.
And even then, I felt only a drop of pity for her.
Because I knew Jennifer clearly needed help.
She was not normal in the head, and I could see it clearly now.
“Do you know how far I’ve gone to keep, Ethan?” She repeated again, her chest moving unsteadily.
“I even drugged him that night.
You were out of our lives, but I knew I needed to trap Ethan if I wanted to keep him with me.
I tried everything to get him to sleep with me.
Every single thing!
I even wore your fucking dress, and do you know whose name was still on his lips that’s night,” she shouted in rage.
As her fingers pointed directly at me.
“Yours!
He kept on whispering ‘Leah this, Leah that,’ every single time till he finally slept off!
He refused to touch me, no matter how hard I tried!” She screamed, looking at me with so much hatred.
My mind flashed back to that night.
The one memory I had struggled to keep away for so long surfaced.
“But I saw him having se…”
“That was not Ethan!
It was not him!
Ethan was asleep in your fucking room, he refused to leave there.
I knew you were coming.
I already had everything planned out, and I knew I needed to make an alternative else everything would be ruined.
So I did.
I got a man who could pass out as Ethan's brother, except they shared a different face and blood.
And I got him to fuck me.
And he was more than willing to do what Ethan had refused me for years.
The man you saw with me in bed that night was James and not Ethan!” She roared, breathing angrily.
And I stood stiffly.
Frozen, not even making one twitch as I stared at her in shock.
I was unable to believe my ears.
Everything sounded foreign to me.
And of course it would be, when I had been solemnizing a heartbreak for years.
Only to find out that Ethan never cheated on me.
“And do you know what else?
In all our years we’ve been married.
Ethan never touched me, not even once.
All he needed was his, Leah,” she gritted.
“That means, Kayla…”
Her jaws twisted in anger as she spat.
“Yes.
Kayla is not Ethan’s daughter.
She is James' child.”
