A visit to my parent's house
A visit to my parent's house
Chapter 27~ Dante's POV
\==========
After spending most hours at the office working nonstop, subsequently, my phone rang while the clicking sound from my laptop was audibly heard.
Picking it up for a look, I realized it was my father calling.
Rolling my eyes over, I inhaled a deep breath as I answered the call.
"Hello Dad," I began.
"Hello son, how are you doing?" He said.
"Good, Dad, pushing it as always," I uttered to him.
"Well, I just wanted to check up on you, since it's been a while since I saw you," he continued as I could perceive the sadness laced beneath his words.
"Dad, are you okay?" I inquired with my attention shifted to him in full.
"I just thought we could have dinner tonight, I know you have your apartment and all, but I and your mother want some time with you if that's not too much to ask," My father requested.
Taking a deep breath, I couldn't say no to his request because I would never want to hurt my parent's feelings no matter what.
So I responded to him, "Okay, Dad, see you at 8 pm tonight then, I'm kind of busy at work, being the boss," I joked.
Then he laughed at my words and I could feel a hint of happiness buried in them.
"Alright Dad, bye," I said to him.
So, I ended the call.
Soon, as I was already engrossed in my work, my phone chimed once again, and checking it, I discovered it was Valerie.
"What now?" I said to myself, staring at the screen of my phone.
Then I answered the call, placing it on my left ear and resting the phone on my shoulder, "Hello baby," She said, as she started the conversation.
"Hello Valerie," I replied, in a numb manner, visibly shown on my face.
"What's wrong?" She asked.
"Nothing, why do you ask?" I questioned as I sensed she might have felt my demeanor through my pitch tone.
"I just asked, why are you kind of cold towards me," She continued with her silly but annoying questions.
It was starting to get on my nerves, but I had to endure it all as I had a mission with her.
"Baby, I'm fine, it's just work stress, you know how it is, So how do you feel now?" I diverted the focus from the inquiries avoiding her further questions.
"I'm better now, just a bit of pain in my ankle, not as bad as this morning when you left, I guess the nap I took went a long way for me," She uttered.
"So am I see you tonight?" She continued with her words.
"Hmm-mmm, maybe, just maybe," I responded to her.
"Hold on, before you proceed with your words," I gave a slight giggle.
"My dad called and I promised to have dinner with them, so I can make it up to you over a candle-lit dinner tomorrow night, just you and I," I promised.
"A good negotiation by the way, alright then, see you tomorrow," she said, agreeing to my words.
"I love you, Dante," She professed.
"Love you too Valerie," I responded with a slight rolling of my eyes and so I ended the call with her.
Dropping my phone, I exhaled my breath as I was fed up with the conversation.
I wish, fast-tracking my plans was possible and easy but I just had to endure this charade I am acting on.
So I returned to my halted work.
In the evening of that same day, after working hours, I left the office and drove to my parent's house, knowing fully well I had to go with gifts.
So I pulled over at a supermarket close to their streets, and then I entered and bought a few items for them.
Paying for my items at the counter, and the instant I got done and was on my way to my car, I heard my name being called out loud.
"Dante,"
So I turned to see who was calling me, "Dante," I heard once again but the voice grew indistantly, and suddenly I didn't hear the voice calling out my name again.
I was in awe as I said to myself, "Is someone playing a prank on me?"
Then I scoffed in displease, as I opened my car back seat door and put in what I bought from the supermarket and then opened the driver's side as I closed the initial door I opened.
With that, I drove off to my parent's house.
After a few minutes on the street leading to my parent's house, I arrived at the blaze mansion.
Trust me, I have missed my parent's house, but I am an adult now with huge responsibilities towards them.
Entering further into the mansion's compound with my car, I turned off my car engine, as I came out with my purchased items for them and took my step into the mansion the moment I pressed the locked button on my car keys.
Arriving inside, the servants hurriedly came to collect the item bags with me.
As my mother approached me, "Hello my handsome prince," she said, meeting me with her warmth.
"Mother," I said to her giving her a perk of kiss on her cheek.
"You look beautiful as always," I complimented.
"Oh-oh-oh, stop pulling my legs like your father," my mother said, blushing at my admiration towards her.
"Come on, let's sit," she uttered, holding me by my shoulder as I diligently followed her.
Having our seats, I asked, " I can't see Dad anywhere?"
"Oh, your father, he.......," She said, pausing to the voice of my father suddenly chiming in.
"My boy," he yelled in a happy tone while stepping down from the stairs.
"Father," I said, standing up to hug him.
"Ohhh," my father exclaimed, as I pounced on him with a hug.
"How are you son," he inquired, as he released me from his arms.
"Great Dad," I responded, finding my way back to the couch.
"My ears have been full, with the great job you have been doing at the office," my father informed, taking his seat.
"I guess, Miss Skye deserves the gratitude for being a great teacher," I said.
"Sure," my father agreed, blotting out a cough.
"Sorry father," I said.
"Dante, you look skinny, you have been working too hard," my mother chimed in.
"Mother, please don't start, I have just been working out these days, that's all," I stated.
"I know right, doing it for the ladies," my mother whined.
"When will you get serious and bring me a daughter-in-law," she continued, as her words were getting on my frustrated side.
"Mom, can we not do this? I came here to spend quality time with you and Dad, please don't ruin it," I pleaded with her, with both of my hands clapped together.
Then a sudden silence wore upon the atmosphere after my words as every one of us began looking at one another.
Finally, I broke off the toxicity in the moment, as I said, "So, shall we eat?"
"Of course," my father responded, supporting the motion of my words.
Then we stood up, including my mother, and made our way to the table, as we began eating and talking about every of our memories of when I was still young and timid.
And finally, after a long kindling of our bond, while eating, each one of us got done with our meals.
With that, one of the servants came to clear up our used utensils.
"The meal is delicious Mom," I praised, while cleaning my mouth with a paper towel.
"Thank you, darling, won't you have desserts, it's your favorite?" My mother inquired.
"Yes son, eat your dessert," my father added.
"No, Mom, I'm okay, have had the best meal of the day made by my mother's lovely hands," I cajoled her a bit.
"Alright, you win, you can skip dessert," she said, finally succumbing to my excuse.
"I'd be at the cinema room if you two want to join me later on," I uttered. "Goodnight,"
"Goodnight son," My parents said in unison.
And so, I stood up and left the dining room, into the cinema room.
As I began watching one of my favorite movies of all time, "The Vampire's Diaries," the irking feel in the movie was my only remedy for a good night's sleep.
So I kept my stare on it, as my thoughts about Valerie resurfaced in my head till I fell asleep for the night.
