Taking Valerie home

Taking Valerie home
Chapter 26 ~ Dante's POV

\==========

The next day arrived, as I stood up from the bed and left Valerie still resting on the hospital bed, I walked away from the bed as I stood by the window side with my arms folded.

Then, I suddenly heard the sound of the door opening and turning back, I saw it was the doctor.

The doctor was in shock, seeing me stand there, so I hurriedly walked toward him

"Good morning Doctor," I greeted, stretching my hands out to him for a shake.

"Good morning, who are you to my patient," he asked politely, receiving my gestured handshake.

"Oh, I'm-Im- I'm her husband," I lied covering up my initial pretense to the nurse at the counter.

"Oh," the doctor exclaimed in realization.

Then he moved close to Valerie who was still fast asleep and touched her hands to check her pulse, and then she blinked her eyes as she slowly opened them.

"Good morning Miss, I believe you had a wonderful night," the doctor asked.

Smiling softly, she responded to him, while I stood and watched them.

"I did doctor all thanks to that man over there,"

Chuckled the doctor said while checking the drip bottle, "Then we have your husband to thank for that,"

Hearing this, I saw the shock in her eyes but she didn't make it evident to the doctor.

Then he stood up properly and said facing me, "I guess, she is free to go home today, the accident was a minor one, thankfully, she should use her drugs regularly and she should be back to herself in a few days,"

"That's wonderful news doctor, thank you for your help," I uttered to him.

"Alright," the doctor said as he held his stethoscope in his hands and left the wardroom.

Then it remained just me and her in the room. Suddenly there was a silence cocooning all over the room which left us staring at one another without a word.

So....," I began.

"So....., We are official," she said.

"Yeah, we are, who would imagine two people from different worlds could become one," I elaborated.

"I know right, can I ask a question?" She proclaimed.

"Sure, ask away," I supported her.

"Why did you say you were my husband?" She asked with a slight giggle from her.

"That, well I had to tell a lie you know, because the grumpy nurse, I encountered when I got to the hospital made me do so," I responded to her.

"I see, it felt nice when you said you were my husband, the feeling was........ I don't know........, Different," she explained to me, still lying on the bed.

"Anyways, let's get you home miss," I instructed, as I moved close to her and she met me with a kiss on my lips.

Some minutes later, I got her up on her feet and wore her clothes because her legs were not well fitted for stress yet, so one of the nurses came in with a wheelchair to make it easy to leave the hospital premises.

So, she got into the chair as I cradled her into it, then I asked, "Shall we.....?"

With a smile on her face, she responded to me, "

Then, we both left the hospital and straight into my car as I drove to her apartment.

An hour into the drive, we arrived at her apartment, and with the same struggle I faced in putting her into the car.

Finally, getting her out, I held her left arm around my neck, she limped her legs as we both walked our way to her apartment's entrance door.

So I knocked on the door, at first there was no response, so I knocked once again, but still no one responded.

"Isn't my mother at home?" Valerie questioned as I wore a confused expression on my face.

"I don't know, let me give the knock one more shot and if there is no response, then I will break open the door," I said.

"Alright," she nodded her head, with her arm still wrapped around my neck.

Knocking for the third time, I called out, "Mrs. Skye," knocking continuously.

When I was about to hit the door with another knock, suddenly the door opened and Mrs. Skye was seen standing beside it.

"Jesus Christ, Valerie what happened to you," Mrs Skye said, slightly limping also during her progressive recovery.

"I was in an accident," Valerie responded to her mother, as both of us gently entered the house.

Her mother hurriedly cleared up the unnecessary items on the couch, so I and Valerie could sit comfortably.

"Should I make soup for you? Tell me anything I would do it," Mrs. Skye said to her as her motherly affection triggered out.

"No worries Mom, I'm fine, I just want some sleep," she uttered to her mother.

And so, she gently leaned on my shoulder, as she looked at peace resting her head on them.

"Oh Dante, please tell me all that happened to her," Her mother pleaded with me.

"She was in an accident, though I wasn't there, but she called me to the hospital and I was with her ever since it happened, the doctor said she is fine now but needs some time for her injuries to heal up, but with the look of things, I think she is fine," I explained to her.

"Thank you so much, Dante, I don't know what we would do without you," she said.

"I know right," Valerie chimed in, moving her lips close to mine as smacked on each other.

"Hmm-mmm," I heard coming from her mother, so I momentarily halted the kiss as I cleared my throat.

"So, I will come back after working hours, to check up on you," I said to both of them, as I gently rested Valerie's head on the couch's edge and so I stood up and dusted off my palm on my pant trousers.

Walking away, Valerie echoed out, "I love you,"

And I replied to her, "Love you too," so I opened the door and left her apartment.

So I made my way to my car with so much awkwardness within, and finally, I entered inside.

I waited for some minutes, as I began questioning myself, "Why do I feel different around her, despite my intentions towards her? Taking a deep breath, I continued, "This feeling should better find a definition for itself because I can't figure it out on my own,"

So, after my self-spoken conversation, I placed the keys into my car ignition switch and turned it on then I zoomed off from her street as I began my journey to the office.
