Chapter 154

Chapter 154

Rowan smiled bitterly, thinking that the Blair family was about to be wiped out. At this point, forget sleeping on the couch—as long as she had a place to hide from this storm, she'd be more than satisfied.

After hanging up, Rowan hugged Cade goodbye, took the freshly signed contract, left the company, and headed straight to William's place.

When Rowan arrived at William's house, William was busy in the kitchen while Delilah had gone to pick up the two kids from school.

Seeing that William still had the mood to cook, Rowan was completely impressed.

She set her bag on the nearby cabinet and leaned against the kitchen doorway. "William, can you tell me what exactly you've been doing all these years? Eight years ago, as far as I know, you were a wanted fugitive being hunted down. You ended up in Novaria and nearly died here. But eight years later, you've only been in Novaria for how long, and you've already turned the whole city upside down."

After William gradually returned to family life, the violent energy he'd picked up in Bloody Prison disappeared bit by bit, replaced by a calm like still water.

"If I could tell you, I definitely would. But the problem is there are some things I can't say right now. So Ms. Blair, I hope you'll stop asking. Also, if you're willing, could you give me a hand?"

Rowan looked around the dim, cramped room. "How long are you planning to live here?"

William smiled. "Not sure yet. We'll see in a few days. Mira and Remy both really like it here. Plus Emily seems pretty happy with this place too. If we suddenly moved, I'm afraid the kids wouldn't adjust right away."

Rowan understood. From what she'd learned about William during this time, it wasn't that he couldn't afford a better place for his family—he was thinking of them at every turn, especially the kids. He cared most about how they felt.

With these thoughts running through her mind, Rowan went in to help William prepare vegetables.

At the same time, she asked William, "After you had me leave today, did you also get a project for Emily?"

William spoke frankly. "No. Emily's situation is different from yours. At the Blair Group, you at least have your father backing you up. But at the Taylor Group, Emily doesn't have anyone willing to help her. Even if I connected her with projects now, she wouldn't have the energy to handle them. Of course, later on, once Emily's position in the company is completely stable, I'll help her connect with more projects when necessary."

Rowan hadn't expected this rough guy William to think through such details.

She lowered her head and stayed quiet for a few seconds, then asked, "Aren't you scared at all about provoking the Tilden family this time?"

William stopped what he was doing, turned to Rowan with a slightly apologetic look and said, "Ms. Blair, there's something I think you should know."

Rowan asked, "What?"

William said seriously, "Actually, even if you hadn't taken me to see Patrick, I would've found time to meet him anyway. Also, you probably don't know the real reason Patrick came to Novaria. He came to Novaria for me."

Rowan asked in shock, "For you? How is that possible? Are you saying you already had problems with the Tilden family?"

William smiled casually. "You know about the Garcia family being wiped out a while back, right? The Tilden family sent Patrick here to find out who really destroyed the Garcia family."

Rowan said, "What's there to investigate? Everyone in Novaria knows it was Albert who destroyed the Garcia family."

But as she said this, Rowan suddenly stopped.

She thought about how Albert rushed to give projects to the Taylor family, established deep cooperation with them, and helped Emily in various ways.

Although ninety percent of people in Novaria thought Albert was doing this because he had feelings for Emily, the number one talented woman in Novaria, based on her observations recently, she was certain Albert had absolutely no such intentions toward Emily.

After gradually piecing things together, Rowan said with her mouth half open in shock, "Wait, oh my God, Mr. Brown, please don't tell me that Albert really is just a pawn in your hand, and you're the one who actually destroyed the Garcia family?"

William said lightly, "So Patrick will find his way to me sooner or later. Might as well go to him first, so he doesn't hurt innocent people."

Rowan murmured quietly, "So today when you agreed to help me talk to Patrick about cooperation, you were actually doing it for your own business too?"

William nodded.

Rowan took a deep breath, then said somewhat angrily, "William, you liar! If I'd known you had such a huge conflict with the Tilden family, how could I have asked you to help me? Now look—the more help you give, the messier it gets. Tell me, what am I supposed to do now?"

William smiled and walked over to the stove. While cutting meat, he said quietly, "Don't worry. Before I left, I warned Patrick. Unless I die, he won't touch anyone from the Blair family. Of course, you need to understand one thing—there's no one in this world who can kill me!"

Rowan fell silent. She started praying in her heart, hoping William was telling the truth and not just bragging.

At five thirty, Delilah came home with Remy and Mira.

When the two kids came in and saw Rowan was also there, they both rushed over and hugged Rowan's legs, one on each side.

Over the years, Mira and Remy had received plenty of love from Rowan.

Rowan was kindhearted and treated the two kids like her own.

Seeing the children, Rowan's mood improved a bit.

She stroked their heads and smiled at Delilah. "Ms. Roberts, thank you for your hard work."

Delilah smiled slightly and put down the backpacks. "Ms. Blair, why are you here?"

Rowan smiled bitterly. "It's complicated. Better not ask. By the way, what time does Emily get off work? Should she be home soon?"

Delilah looked at the clock hanging on the wall. "Should be soon, I think. But Ms. Taylor just took over as president of the Taylor Group, and there's still a lot for her to handle. She didn't even come home for lunch today."

Hearing this, William, who had just walked out of the kitchen, felt his heart tighten.

Normally, if Emily didn't come home for lunch, she would definitely call him. But from this morning until now, Emily hadn't called him even once.

With growing unease, William immediately dialed Emily's number.

But the next second, when a cold male laugh came from the other end of the line, William's face instantly filled with murderous intent.
