Liam’s POV The atmosphere around the pack seems bright and it seemed awkward with everything that has happened in the last couple of days. It has been a hell of a week, however I had to continue with some of the duties delegated to me. I wore my boots before strolling out of my room. There appeared to be so much work to do and little hands to achieve it. Since Aria's absence, I had to fill her position. This has been something tedious but I had to engage in them to ensure the smooth running of things in the pack. Taking deep breaths at intervals, I moved past some warriors and guards who were stationed at different corners around the pack. My mind was not at ease as the severe situation of the pack kept tugging at my heart, I truly needed a solution to the problem however it was futile. The sounds of the birds chirping and the hollowed sounds of the wind controlling the branches filled the pack. I was so disturbed to the extent my heart was not at peace, my wolf noticed this and asked, “What is going on, Liam? You don’t look so good, if you can fool everyone else in this pack you know I will never fall for your tricks.” I shrugged and continued moving towards the pantry, Aria was the one in charge of supplies and ensuring that the packs needed were in order and readily available for use. “I'm waiting for your response,” he blurted out. Inhaling sharply I replied, “The situation with the Alpha and his mate coupled with the unrest in the pack seems to be getting to me. Right now I am disturbed and worried about what the future holds for us. The people, getting supplies and every other thing that would guarantee our safety.” My wolf let out a low groan, “You know I feel it too right, but you don’t need to beat yourself up about it continuously.” I walked towards the pantry keeping a cool demeanor since the pack members were around going about their daily activities, a slight change in my disposition could cause a fuss. Having a short conversation with my wolf helped a little. The maids in charge of the pantry bowed slightly at me immediately I stepped into the pantry, “Welcome Sir,” the lady in charge said, walking briskly towards me from the back. “I'm here to take inventory of what we have in the storehouse, give me a list of everything available and things that would be needed to sustain the people in the next few weeks,” I stated firmly looking around the shelves. From observations I could see the bag of flour was already used halfway, there was a limited amount of rice in the baskets and the vegetables were scanty on the shelves. Her voice jolted me back to reality, “We need more bags of rice, oats, maize, vegetables, proteins in large quantities, milk both dairy and fresh, and finally change of clothes alongside blankets.” She listed the things carefully. I stared at the woman who seemed to be telling the truth as the countenance of the maids working with her remained the same. “Alright, take the list to the pack merchant in charge of suppliers and inform him about my direct order to make everything written there available in the next two days. Everything must be in place to ensure that the people are satisfied and properly cared for.” I retorted sharply. She bowed before saying, “I would do that right away, sir.” Taking one last look around I walked out of the pantry heading for the training grounds, I needed something to take my mind off the present situation of the pack. I saw a young lad who got stuck underneath a cart, it seemed he was playing the game of hide-and-seek, unfortunately, he chose the wrong hiding area. I sighed walking towards the cart, immediately he saw him approaching his eyes became big and it shone irresistibly. Furthermore, I leaned down and moved the cart away from his body carefully, he quickly wiggled his way out of the cart and stood. “Thank you, sir, I promise not to be naughty again,” he said hurriedly before scurrying off into the pack. I smiled watching his tiny legs disappear around the next intersection. A few minutes later I arrived at the training ground, some warriors were already training amongst themselves having a brawl. While the others stood at the side cheering them on, “Welcome Liam,” they all chorused immediately I stepped into the arena. I waved for the others to continue while I moved into the changing area. Picking a suitable armour I geared up and stepped back outside, I joined in the training picking an opponent worthy of my fight. We were at it for some minutes and in the end, I placed him on the ground. A loud ovation erupted from the training ground as the warriors cheered me for winning. I took on three more warriors before they all ended up refusing to fight with me, staring at my feet I could feel sweat dripping down my spine and my whole body was drenched in sweat. This felt so good, at the moment where I tried so hard to win and beat up all my opponents I forgot everything that occurred in the pack. Panting hard I stood in the middle of the open field, “Let's come together,” I instructed while they moved from the walls toward the center. “Everyone needs to be more proactive and potent since we don't know what the future holds for us. There would be repositioning at different strategic locations around the pack, and the loops around the border would be filled in. The East and West Wing are fully guarded but there seems to be lapses around the southern area of the pack, I would be moving eight warriors four each to make sure the security is strengthened.” I instructed maintaining eye contact with a few warriors. While we kept deliberating about the changes that would occur also the ammunition and accessories that would be used, a few warriors made meaningful suggestions about the weapons that should be gotten. “We could also use some warriors at the outpost, also at the river banks towards the northern side in the woods.” one of the warriors suggested quickly. After listening to their suggestions I knew it would be enough to keep the pack in order, “The suggestions and ideas seem plausible, this would ensure the pack members are protected. But we also need to put something into consideration, we must protect the Alpha.” but someone interrupted me with a side comment. “Tsk, Protect what Alpha? Are we even sure he is on our side? If he was, none of this would be happening.” Clenching my fists I tried to contain my anger but it was useless, redirecting my gaze towards the warrior who commented. I strode angrily picking him by his collar, and pushing him backward I pinned him against the wall. There were murmuring and side talks amongst the warriors but no one dared come closer, “What did you just say?” I inquired in a cold tone tightening my grip around his neck. He continued to gasp for breath while his face suddenly became pale, “I… I … didn't mean to disres…pect the Alph…a!” he managed to say while fighting for freedom. I pulled him forward and slammed his back against the wall for the second time, “Don’t ever in your life mention something like this again! Never again in your miserable life!!” I stated furiously. Likewise, I released my hold, instantly he slumped to the ground coughing violently from the rush of air into his windpipe. Veering around I pointed my fingers at everyone on the training ground, “I don’t want to ever hear a word of disrespect towards the Alpha, he is still the Alpha of this Pack!!” I thundered before storming out from the training ground. Right away I needed to meet with the Alpha, I quickly removed the armor I was wearing and placed everything back in the changing room. On my way there I thought about Tiara, instantly wanted to speak to her through the mind link but I immediately realized she was away. My mate, Tiara is the only person that can be of help to me in calming my nerves but she was not even around. Unexpectedly she reached out first, “Hello Liam,” I heard her sweet voice in my head. I felt light, “Tiara, How come you can do this? I missed you and was just thinking about you before you reached out.” I said calmly. “I found a special way to communicate with you although we are still away from the pack. There is something I urgently need to tell you, Liam, We are in danger! Aria and the rest of us are in danger, tell the Alpha to come as soon as possible to save his mate. You know that we have only limited time to save ourselves!!” Tiara explained before the mind link instantly shut down. At first, everything happened so fast I could not understand what she just said. I maintained my calm demeanor outside but on the inside, I was a mess. Moving quickly down the pack house a maid suddenly stopped me in my tracks, “Sir, the Lycan is not in his chambers. He went to the hospital wing where Sophia was being kept. I figured out you must be looking for him since you were heading in that direction.” she said with her head bowed. “Thank you,” I muttered before leaving. Some minutes later I was walking down the hospital wards proceeding quickly to Sophia’s room to deliver Tiara’s message. To my uttermost surprise, I met the Alpha and Sophia in a compromised position sharing a passionate kiss, this left me dumbstruck!
