Chapter 15 Chaper 15.

Chapter 15 Chaper 15.
The night drew in quickly, and Aria found herself staring at her reflection in a mirror. "God, who am I? She muttered, trying to find a semblance of herself.

Aria's eyes wandered over her reflection, the dim lighting of the room casting shadows on her face. She was dressed in a sleek black evening gown, the fabric hugging her curves in all the right places. The dress was a far cry from her usual attire, and she felt like a different person staring back at her.

The gown was made of silk, the material clinging to her skin like a second layer. It was cut low in the front, showcasing her cleavage, and the sleeves were long and flowing, like dark wings wrapping around her body. A diamond necklace glinted around her neck, adding a touch of luxury to the overall look.

Aria's hair was styled in loose waves, cascading down her back like a waterfall. Her makeup was subtle yet striking, with a bold red lip color that seemed to scream danger. She felt like a femme fatale, a woman who could lure men to their doom with a single glance.

"Who am I?" she muttered again, her voice barely above a whisper.

The soft knock on the door shattered her thoughts. "Coming," she answered.

With a deep breath in, she began walking out of the room, her black heels clicking against the floor.

As Aria opened the door, Francesca's eyes widened in a mixture of admiration and envy. Aria's sleek black evening gown seemed to radiate an aura of sophistication and danger, while Francesca's own red mini dress suddenly felt...tame.

"Mr Moretti's is waiting downstairs," Francesca said, her voice tinged with a hint of resentment. She couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy as she took in Aria's transformation. The woman standing before her was a far cry from the grief-stricken widow she'd met just days ago.

Aria's eyes locked onto Francesca's, a hint of amusement dancing in their depths. "Sure," she replied. "Shall we?"

Francesca's gaze lingered on Aria's diamond necklace, her eyes narrowing slightly before she finally moved her feet, leading the way.

Downstairs, Lucien was in a phone call session. But the moment he heard the sound of heels clicking on the stairs, he turned. There were two beautiful ladies striding down the stairs, but his eyes were only glued on one—Aria.

His eyes took in her breathtaking figure that was a perfect balance of curves and grace, with a narrow waist that flowed into soft, rounded hips, each step she took carrying the kind of confidence that only came naturally. Her legs were long, sculpted, and endlessly graceful, commanding attention with every stride.

Her skin glowed with a smooth, warm radiance—silken to the eye, as though kissed by golden sunlight. High cheekbones framed a heart-shaped face, and her full lips, naturally tinted with a flush of rose, curved in a way that made even silence feel seductive.

Her eyes were her most dangerous weapon—almond-shaped, dark and deep, fringed by thick lashes that cast shadows with every blink. Her dark loose waves cascading down her back.

By the time she reached him, her intoxicating floral scent invaded his nostrils.

And of course Francesca didn't miss out on his daze on Aria that infuriated her. "Sir?" She called, pulling Lucien's attention back to reality.

"You look delicious," Lucien smiled at Aria. "And of course, you're making me hungry," he winked.

Aria's cheeks flushed as her head registered the meaning of what he said, her eyes shooting him a hard glare.

"Shall we?" Lucien asked, extending his arm to Aria, expecting her to hook her arm with his. But instead, she gave him a plain look.

"So stubborn," he chuckled, leading the way outside.

Sirens of power whispered in the night as Lucien led Aria from the mansion in his sleek black SUV. The city lights gleamed on polished chrome and distant steel. Francesca dismissed them to the back; Lucien and Aria rode in silence, their gazes locking in mirrors and reflections.

He glanced at her: the hem of her gown trailing the seat, her hair catching light like dark waves. His smirk was slow, deliberate.

The car turned into a subterranean courtyard behind a building of cold marble and steel—no sign, no billboard, just shadows swallowing the entrance. Guards in tailored suits nodded the car through.

Aria stepped from the car onto the narrow cobblestone alley behind the grand ballroom. The night air was sharp, scented with smoke and danger. Two burly men in tuxedos guided her forward, their footsteps echoing in the darkness. Lucien followed close behind, indifferent to the stares that flickered through the shadows. Francesca also fell in place behind, her tab in hand.

Aria adjusted her gown and swallowed hard. Her pulse thundered in her ears. Tonight was not a charity gala or a staged photo shoot. This was his world laid bare.

They entered the ballroom through a side door. The hush that fell over the room only underscored its power: a vast underground chamber, vaulted ceilings, chandeliers draped from iron girders, guests dressed in black and blood-red gowns, men in custom suits with eyes like predators. The walls, draped in dark velvets, absorbed light rather than reflecting it. In the center, a raised dais stood with Lucien’s name carved in obsidian.

Aria’s breath caught in her throat. This wasn’t society’s veneer. This was the underworld’s stage.

Whispers rippled across the crowd as they entered. Some faces turned; many more refrained but their eyes pierced through her. She felt both exposed and invisible—walking a tightrope between fear and fascination.

Lucien led her by the hand, firm but not guiding. His presence made the room tilt. Security, displays of wealth, power, influence—they all bowed to him. She saw suits freeze mid-conversation; wealthy socialites shift uncomfortably. A few bowed heads as they passed. Even the chandeliers seemed to dim.

A man in a charcoal suit approached them, nodded low to Lucien. “You honor us with your presence, Don Moretti.”

He inclined his head. “Always.” His tone carried both warmth and threat, an unspoken reminder of his dominance.

The man turned to Aria. “Hello, beautiful," he smiled. "Welcome to the Circle.” His voice was smooth, as though he had recited introductions a thousand times. But his eyes flickered, measuring.

Aria forced a tight smile. “Thank you.” Her throat felt dry, her pulse a drum.

A cluster of masked guests surrounded them, pressing in with subtle eagerness.

He released her and led her further, to a long banquet table flanked by elite figures. At the head, defined by black marble and illuminated by candlelight, sat the Elders of his syndicate, a silent council whose presence commanded awe.

A man stood, silver-haired, and imposing. He tapped a glass to speak.

“Don Moretti. You bring us a new member. May she prove worthy.”

Applause rippled through the room, polite but heavy with scrutiny. Aria forced a nod, but her pulse thundered against her ribs.

She stepped forward, Lucien beside her. The Elders watched, unmoving, their masks reflecting firelight.

“You will come forward, Miss,” the elder said. “And kneel before this council.”

Aria’s breath caught. Kneel? For what? She hesitated.

Lucien moved a hand behind her back, subtly urging her forward. She gave him a look of disapproval and defiance but his own authoritative look wore hers out.

Under the gaze of a thousand eyes, Aria lowered one knee onto the stone floor. She bowed her head. The council remained stone-faced.

A voice from the table echoed: “You accept all terms. Obedience. Secrecy. Our cause.”

Aria's heart raced. What cause? What secrets? Obedience to what?

“Miss?” The voice echoed again.

Aria's throat went dry, she whispered, “I accept.”

A ripple of nods passed through the Elders. Lucien nodded once.

“You may rise,” the Elder said. “Welcome to the Inner Circle.”

Her mind raced with different questions. First of them all, what was this place? A cult?

Aria stood, dizzy with the weight of what she’d just sworn. Lucien’s hand squeezed hers. She glanced at him—an unspoken promise, a warning, and something darker.

They exited the dais, flanked by guards.

Outside a side door, the criminal elite mingled, some past dealings, some old alliances. Aria watched fortunes shift in a glance.

A tall man in a sable suit approached them. He offered a curt nod to Lucien, then fixed her with a look that burned.

“Interesting choice, Don.” He paused. “Perhaps she’ll dance well... in the darkness.”

Lucien’s lips curved. “I intend so.”

As the man's predating glance lingered on Aria, she turned away, her heart in her throat. What had she just joined?

Lucien’s voice broke through her thoughts. “You did well tonight.”

Aria’s throat tightened, recounting if she hadn't made the wrong decision by coming to Lucien for help.

A distant scream pierced night. It echoed through the atmosphere.

As if on cue, everyone whipped towards the sound.

Aria looked at Lucien, her breath caught. He whispered, “Stay here.”

He sprinted off toward the sound.

Aria froze, heart pounding. The gathering behind her erupted in chaos, guards rushing. She stood alone, trembling.

In that moment, she felt the true weight of her choice.

This world didn’t offer mercy.

It demanded allegiance—or death.

And she had just signed her name.
