Chapter 90 We need to end this...
ELIANA
Blowing a deep sigh, I dart my eyes around. The view looks amazing from the rooftop under the pale moonlight, yet, nothing quite catches my eyes.
That's how I spent the rest of my day since l bumped into Scarlett in the bathroom. I have been in my head and everything around me turned into a blur. Like the outer world doesn’t exist. Just me and my racing thoughts which are too loud to block them away.
My mother prepared one of my favourite dish today but…I couldn't bring myself to eat that much the way I always do no matter how much I tried to force myself-
The trail of thoughts is cut short when footsteps echo through the quiet air on the rooftop and I suck a sharp breath. I don't dare to turn around since I know who they belong to. I remain standing at the same spot, my eyes fixed on nothing in particular.
The footsteps get closer with each breath and finally, a shadow falls over me and his scent, a mixture of his cologne and pure masculine wraps around me like a warm embrace, taking over my senses.
My breath catches in my throat when he leans in, “Have you been waiting for me?” He whispers into my ear, his voice low and deep which makes me gulp.
Have I been waiting for him?
I can't help but mentally question myself, feeling confused about the reason why I came to the rooftop. My intention was to clear up my mind, the cold breeze brushing on my face and through my hair to help me think straight. However, there's a tiny part of me that was hoping for him to pop up. My stomach tightens when I give it a thought. I shouldn't be feeling this way, not after the confrontation with Scarlett.
“Come on my dear Eli, say it out loud for the world to know. Shout it from the rooftop. I know you have been waiting for me.” He brushes his lips on the sensitive spot on my ear, a shiver running down my spine and he wraps his strong hands around me.
I close my eyes and take a few deep breaths, hoping maybe, just maybe…it would help me gain my composure but-it doesn't do that much.
Heavens, why does it feel safe with his hands wrapped around me? Why does it feel warm in his arms that it's hard to pull away?
Sucking in a deep breath, I hold onto his hands wrapped around my waist and pull them from me then take two steps away from him. The cold breeze brushes against me, the warmth that was wrapped around me a second ago gone but I mentally brush it off. If I need to do this, I have to turn off the stupid switch in my head. To block away everything because if I give into it, it'll be hard to fight it.
Jackson looks at me in confusion, trying to figure out what's going on. Damn it! I want to stretch my hand, reach out and smoothen the wrinkles between his eyebrows. I want to kiss those lips because I have missed them throughout the day even if I pretended not to see how kissable they are. I want to reach out and run my fingers through that midnight, messy hair.
Fuck! I want him.
“We need to end this, Jackson.” I choke out, the words leaving a bitter taste in my mouth.
______
I take a sharp breath when Jackson takes a step towards me and my first instinct is to step back, as far away from him as I can but he doesn't stop. He takes another step, and another, and another…
I step back with each step that he takes towards me, a voice inside my head screaming for me to run but-my heart drops to the pit of my stomach when my back collides softly with the parapet.
Nowhere to run to.
I hold onto the wall tightly, my nails digging into the concrete as if the parapet would break and make a way for me but all my hope crush when Jackson stops before me, tall and strong, his overwhelming presence only reminding me that there’s no escape.
Damn it! I hate this. I hate that I’m trapped with him on the rooftop. And I hate the fact that I have nowhere to run to even if I want to.
I gulp when his finger slips beneath my chin, warm and gentle, sending a forbidden shiver down my spine. Slowly, he tilts my head up so I’m looking him straight in the eyes. His blue eyes are a few shades darker as though he can see through my soul.
“Say it looking me straight in the eyes!” He demands, his voice dangerously low and his eyes fixated on me.
My lips quiver, my mind going blank and my throat dries up.
“We-we should end this…” The words come out hesitant, not the way I had intended and I curse in my head. Mentally screaming.
“See?” He says with a raised eyebrow, the corner of his lips curling up into a smile.
“You're hesitant because you're not sure about it. You can't even say the full simple statement.” The curl on the corner of his lips stretches an inch more, his words dripping with sarcasm.
“I know you don't want this to end, Eli. You know it too. We both know it. I can see it in those beautiful brown eyes. I can see you silently pleading for me to not end it.” I swallow hard, his words like a punch in my guts, intense, almost suffocating.
His hand shifts from under my chin to the side of my face and he brushes a stray of hair strands away from my face and tucks it behind my ear, then trails his finger down along my face.
Heavens, why does it feel so good?
I fight the urge to close my eyes and lean in for more of his soothing touch. However, he stops.
“That doesn't look like someone who wants this to end. I know you want this to continue, my dear Eli. You have been craving for my touch throughout the day.” He chuckles like his words are funny. Maybe…they're. Or maybe, I'm the joke.
He knows damn well that I don't want him to stop. He knows it damn too well and that's why he's shoving it on my face.
“Tell me you don't want this to end because I know you do. Stop lying to yourself. Say the words and I’ll give it to you and much more…” His voice drops low, his words holding a promise.
The hair on the back of my neck stands still and I look into those dark blue eyes which have become even more darker with something dangerous that I can't wrap my head around.
“Come on Eli.” He whispers, my name rolling off his tongue like a sinful prayer that makes my body react in all the wrong ways that's not supposed to.
Damn it! This wasn't the plan. Not even close. The plan was simple! To end this for once and for all. However, it seems like my mind and body isn't coordinating.
“I don't want to get tangled up into your mess with your ex-girlfriend. She thinks I’m the reason why you broke whatever deal the two of you had.” I explain briefly, turning around and looking away from Jackson because I’m afraid that I might loose my focus if I gaze into those dark orbs a minute longer.
He growls at my words, stepping behind me and leans to my left.
“Jealous?” He whispers in my ear, “I’m not jealous! I just don't want to be involved in your drama. She asked me to stay away from you and that's what I'm trying to do right now.” I grimace, recalling the confrontation with Scarlett.
“Who cares about what she asked you to do?”
“There's nothing going on between us. And if it’ll help you sleep peacefully at night, Scarlett has never been my girlfriend. It was just an agreement. No strings attached. It was meant to end with or without you being around.” Jax says dismissively as though it's nothing to worry about. Well, it was simply a deal to him.
I release a slow breath that I didn't have any idea I have been holding all this time. I remain silent, staring at the swaying trees.
“Do you still want this to end?” Jackson asks, brushing his lips on my earlobe and I gulp. It seems like he's not going to give up that easily.
I bite down on my lips, blocking away the words. However, he doesn't stop as his lips trail down my neck, releasing a shaky breathe when his lips stop on that sensitive part of my neck, then he sucks on it.
“Do you want that to end too?” The vibration of his voice on my skin raising goosebumps.
My grip on the concrete tightens as his lips trail down my neck while his hand sneaks beneath my nightdress and up my thighs. His lips stop at the curve of my neck and my nails dig into concrete when he sucks on it then bites, the sting igniting something unholy inside me as he gives my thighs a tight squeeze.
“What about that?” He asks, breathing against my skin.
“No!” I let out breathlessly, not giving it that much thought as my mind fogs…
