115. A New Life

115. A New Life
Margaret

It had been a year since my brother's death.

He was buried in the park where we used to go for walks when everything was fine, long before we discovered where he was getting the money that kept us afloat.

Nikolay didn't understand why I still felt affection for my brother, despite everything he had done. I didn't even know myself, but I supposed I was grateful to him for taking care of me when we were alone in the world.

However, now I was not alone and would never be again.

It had been a very long year, but finally, Nikolay had left behind the mobster life he had led before he met me, although that didn't mean he couldn't afford the luxuries to support his son and me.

In fact, our wedding had been postponed at my request. I wanted a peaceful atmosphere and to avoid any misfortune.

"What's wrong, darling?" Nikolay asked me with a concerned expression.

"It's nothing... I was just thinking..." I bit my lip, letting out a brief sigh.

"It's supposed to make you stop thinking," he said with a half-smile.

"And I did stop thinking while we were doing it..." I felt my cheeks flush slightly.

"You have nothing to worry about. Now, no one will harm us because I'm just a regular Russian citizen," he assured me, shrugging as if it were nothing.

"That's not what worries me. I think even if you were still a mobster, we would be very happy... I was thinking about Mike," I admitted somewhat embarrassed by the direction of my thoughts.

"I had no other choice..."

"I know, but despite that, I miss the good times I had with him," I said with a grimace, thinking back to the moment when everything about him turned murky.

"I'll have to make an effort, future Mrs. Ivanov, and show him the pleasures of life," he said with a seductive voice, sending a shiver down my spine.

"That doesn't sound like a bad idea," I smiled widely, because I must admit that I would never tire of him.

Nikolay placed his large body over mine again, kissing my neck with deliberate slowness. I sighed at his caresses, unable to help it.

I was so in love with him that nothing else mattered to me. I had even managed to keep Jennifer away from him, although not in a very civilized way, but since then she hadn't tried anything again.

I stroked his bare back as I contemplated what would happen shortly, leaving behind the memories of a brother who had ceased to exist before he died.

That same afternoon, in a couple of hours, I would be Nikolay's wife, and I was happy at the prospect of spending the rest of my life with him. I didn't even want to think that at first I hated him with all my soul, even knowing from the day I met him that he would change my life forever.

We made love in the sweetest way I could remember with Nikolay, and when we finished, I had no reason to continue worrying. The memories of my past were just that, and now I was about to start a new life.

Nikolay said goodbye to me to prepare for the grand event of the year in Russia. Now, he was known for being the son of the country's most important politicians, not for his role as a mobster, a role that very few knew about.

As I took a relaxing shower, I called my friend Sasha. She had come a couple of weeks ago, not only to visit Katrina, who was her goddaughter, but also to help me with the wedding preparations and act as my maid of honor, as she was one of the few people I knew would be delighted to help us.

When I had the dress on my body, feeling every fold and every piece of skin protected from the cold in Russia, even in summer, I looked at myself in the mirror. I couldn't help but remember the first time I wore a wedding dress. That day I didn't want to get married for anything in the world because I would be marrying the wrong man, but now I was eager to be Nikolay's wife, knowing that this would be the beginning of my new and happy life.

I smiled... My happy life began when I met Nikolay and he gave me my beautiful daughter Katrina... And another baby (this time a boy), who was on the way, and Nikolay would soon know of this news.

When Sasha and I were ready, we left the room. Outside, John was already waiting for us. He would be my best man and had been looking after Katrina in my absence.

John was delighted with the idea of me becoming Mrs. Ivanov, and although he no longer worked for a mobster, he now worked as our bodyguard. After praising my beauty, we headed to the garden where the wedding would take place.

Nikolay was already waiting for me, smiling at the makeshift altar. I returned the smile, knowing that my new life was just beginning.

"Margaret Queen, do you accept Nikolay Ivanov as your husband, to love, cherish, and respect him until death do you part?"

"Yes," I said confidently, looking at the love of my life in front of me.

His eyes were filled with emotion, and I think I only saw him in that state a couple of times before. Seeing him like this at our wedding fills me with immense joy that I never thought I would experience.

When they asked him the same question, if he would accept me as his wife, his firm and strong "yes" warmed my chest, and when we joined our lips to seal our union, a couple of inevitable tears rolled down my cheeks.

He gently wiped them away and gave me a wonderful smile, one that melted my heart even more because of the complete happiness that now engulfed us as husband and wife.

"Mrs. Ivanov... I love you," he said with a deep voice, his eyes shining brightly.

"I love you too, Mr. Ivanov," I said from the heart, completely sure of my words.

The End.
