113. Perverse Plan

113. Perverse Plan
Mike

I knew I had behaved like a pig with Margaret, but I was truly going crazy without her, and it had always been the two of us... until that damn Nikolay Ivanov got in the way.

I had to lie that I was going to distance myself from them to get him off my back, but I also knew people and had my tricks to give his men the slip, and with the help of a favor, I was already on my way to New York.

Margaret didn't want to see me, but I needed to confirm that the rumors about her giving birth to a daughter from that damn Russian mutt were true. I needed to see it with my own damn eyes.

I glanced at the clock. It was lunchtime, and for sure my Margo was with that guy, living the life I had yearned for all my life.

Since the confrontation we had that night in the park, I had avoided crossing paths with him by all means, and I even gave Margaret a choice, but I had to leave far away and now I was back.

I couldn't believe what had happened; Margaret had gone through a lot, and then he came back, and with just two nice words, she fell for him again. I don't even know how it happened, how she blindly fell in love with that Russian mutt, who wouldn't take long to leave for Russia.

The plans that Jennifer and I had prepared weren't going well, but I had good information to destroy Nikolay. He had a weak point, apart from Margaret.

Now that he was a father, his baby had him mesmerized to the point that he was preparing everything to stop leading the Russian mafia. However, the plan that was forming in my mind with this new information had many loose ends, and I was sure that if Margaret found out about it, she would rip my head off herself.

I truly hated having to hurt her by resorting to such a low plan, but if after everything I had done to take care of her, she still insisted on being with him, I wouldn't mind sinking even lower.

I looked up at the New York sky, which at that hour seemed to forecast rain due to the dark clouds moving swiftly across the sky. I put my hands in my pockets and approached a nearby park with slow steps.

I needed to clear my mind somehow, although another way that would truly calm me would be to kill Nikolay. Slowly and torturously.

A macabre smile formed on my face. Life took many turns, and I went from admiring Nikolay to hating him with all my soul. It was very curious, without a doubt.

My stomach grumbled, demanding attention, and I approached a street food vendor to grab something to eat. I waited until I knew I wouldn't cross paths with Nikolay again, although in reality, ever since Margaret had returned to him, I didn't see much of her either because of their jobs.

I was entering their house. I did it stealthily, and to my dismay, that Russian was still there, but I didn't like what I heard one bit. It was clear that I had to put my plan into action; they had brought it upon themselves.

They were going to get married! My sister was going to marry that man and go back to Russia!

None of that would happen if I prevented it, of course.

I hurried to my room and packed a suitcase. I also searched for another suitcase to pack things for the baby, as my plan was to take the child with me. The moment I saw her, my heart warmed; she was beautiful.

"Katrina," read some letters above her crib.

I already adored this girl because she should have been the daughter Margaret gave me. They would both regret getting together and making me miserable.

When Nikolay left the house and I was sure of it, I stashed the suitcases under the bed and went to see Margaret. She was in the kitchen washing dishes, humming to herself.

It angered me so much that she was happy with someone else...

"Margaret..."

"Mike!" She turned to me with wide eyes. "Why have you come back? You can't be here."

She looked scared of me, and that killed me, but I couldn't back down.

"I came back a while ago, but I didn't want to interrupt your conversation," I said with a fake smile. "You knew I would return, Margo."

She paced back and forth, pulling at her hair in a state of terrible agitation. She was deeply nervous, looking around and biting her lip.

"Are you okay?" She looked at me with concern. Did she still worry about me?

"How long have you been planning your wedding, Margaret?" I stopped abruptly to look her in the eyes.

"Nikolay proposed to me today, and..."

"You said yes," I finished for her, feeling a bitter sensation in the pit of my stomach.

"Yes, I'm in love with him. I know you don't understand..." she began to say, but I cut her off.

"I don't understand it, but you're determined to stay with him. It's my turn to come to terms with it, Margaret. I just want you to be happy," I lied, feeling like I was about to vomit. "I won't bother you anymore; I just wanted to come say goodbye."

"I appreciate that very much," her expression softened slightly, and it seemed like she still cared about me.

"Well, I'll take my leave then. Goodnight," I took a step back, pretending to leave.

"Goodnight... brother," she approached me somewhat hesitantly, brushing a hand over my face. "I forgive you for all the harm you've caused me, but I think it's best for you to stay away from us."

"I understand," I choked out with a huge lump in my throat.

When she kissed my cheek, I felt somewhat relieved and yet regretful of what I was about to do just to have her or lose her definitively...

As night fell, I stealthily entered the house and went straight to the room toward Katrina's crib. I gathered diapers and food for her, packing them into the second suitcase, and then I picked up the sleeping child and left the house.

Before that, I went to see Margaret, and she was sleeping alone. I felt a lot of pain for doing this to her, but it was the only way to have her…
