Evelyn's Point of View
The sounds of their loud voices echoed in my ears like it was the only sound that existed; it taunted me so harshly, their touches were so rough against my skin, and her face was in view. She was laughing and taunting my pain.
She doesn't care. I tried to scream my lungs out, but no one was there to help. It was me and them, and the pain is becoming unbearable.
I don't like feeling this way, like I'm losing my damn mind. They are making me lose my mind. I wanted the pain to stop, but it wouldn't; it stayed with me. I see them; they are laughing; they are enjoying seeing me begging and crying in pain… I hate the feeling…
The sound of the knock jerked me out of my deep slumber; beads of sweat dripped down my face. My whole being is shaking…
They've come for me again—they are here to make me cry again. They'd start laughing again, and I'd feel their hands on my skin again, I'd feel that sharp pain again, and I'd scream my lungs out again. No one will be there to save me again…
I pulled my legs to my chest, curling my frame into a ball, my hands clenched hard to my head as I anticipated their arrival.
But I was welcomed by a deafening silence; it echoed louder than they laughed, and it was too suffocating. I hated the silence—I don't like it, but I don't like the sound of their laughter even more.
A loud scream escaped my lips, and warm raw tears streamed down my cheeks, my screams even louder.
But then the pain wasn't going away; it stayed right in my chest like that's where it belonged, where its home was, right in my chest along with me.
I wanted it to go away, and my mind gave me an idea. I slipped my hand in my pocket and brought out the small knife I had hidden there.
I clenched my teeth together as I ran the sharp knife on my skin, and red liquid began gushing out. The pain was sharp, but the pain in my chest seemed to be vanishing like it was never there.
I've found my cure. I continued with what I was doing. It might not be gone forever, but I can finally breathe in those seconds when it actually disappears. I can breathe freely.
My heart skipped a beat at the sound of the door clicking; it swung open, and I saw them walking in, but this time, the difference was that they were wearing white clothes.
I sprang to my feet and took steps back, pressing my back against the wall.
“Stay away from __Stay away!!”
My voice shook with dread. They've come back; they want to hurt me again, but this time I won't allow them to. I'd protect myself.
Yes, I will protect myself against them. They can't harm me again. I won't allow them to.
“We are here to help you!!”
I shook my head repeatedly. “Lies!! You are here to hurt me again… I won't believe you again—I won't; stay away from me!”
Words poured out of me.
No!! I won't believe anyone. All of them are here to hurt me.
“Please calm down!!”
One of them tried to walk close to me, but I took a step back.
“Don't come closer!!”
The sound of my screams echoed louder, but they wouldn't listen; one of them grasped my arm, and the other one held my other arm, and my screams increased with each passing second.
They injected something in my arm, and instantly the world around me began blurring, and I couldn't keep my eyes open anymore. I slipped into the darkness.
Arthur's point of view
“I wonder if she'd be fine! She's gone mad completely.
Melinda broke the silence. Evelyn was taken away a week ago, and we are only allowed to meet her once a day.
Her condition is becoming worse day by day, and I hate seeing her in such a condition. She's lost herself to her sorrow, agony, and pain.
I wish there was something I could do for her, but I don't think there is; she's lost, and God knows what it will take to bring her back.
“Evelyn is strong, and I know nothing can ever bring her down. She's a fighter, and she will also win this battle.”
Jad said, but all my words seemed to be trapped in my throat. I couldn't utter a single word.
I don't know what's right and wrong anymore. All I'm able to do is hope that she's fine and that she gets over this.
I won't be able to live with her if anything were to happen to her.
As if sensing my dilemma, Jad patted my shoulder.
“Don't you worry, Arthur; trust me, Evelyn will be fine…”
I simply nodded, unable to say anything more than that. I'm just hoping she'll be fine…
“What!”
Both Jad and I snapped our attention to Melinda. Her eyes were widened in shock as they were glued to her cellphone.
“Have you seen the news?”
“What happened?”
Jad asked, his brows furrowing.
“Priscar was shot in both of her legs; she can never walk again, and someone has poured acid in her eyes. Unfortunately, the doctors had to remove her eyes. She is blind and in a wheelchair.”
But that wasn't enough for me; I wanted her to suffer even more. The pain Evelyn is going through is worse than what she's going through. It is too bad…
“Did you do it?”
Melinda raised her eyebrows, her gaze now locking with mine.
I shrugged. “It's nothing she doesn't deserve…”
My voice was void of any emotions. All I wanted now was to throw her in a sea full of sharks and let them eat her alive.
Melinda unexpectedly burst into laughter. I stared at her, unable to figure out if she was happy or sad about it because as she laughed, tears streamed down her cheeks.
“She deserves worse than this; my sister is suffering today, and it's all because of her!”
Melinda’s voice cracked with emotion. My chest tightened; that woman had ruined them beyond repair, and it was clear just how broken they are.
